Haha - YES! Me too!! I still can't believe it's been literally years since I started growing my hair out - and I'm still doing it, and still not at my goal. This is probably the longest I've stuck with any goal; I'm kind of a quitter when it comes to most things :/ But waist length WILL happen, I can feel it :cheese:

Me too, My hair looks barely BSL now but when stretched one group of hairs are about 2 inches from waist.

I'm in! If I give up trimming for the rest of the year, I might make it. :D I just made my very first hair stick and ficcare purchases yesterday, can't wait for them to arrive! My ends are freshly trimmed, but usually need to be trimmed every 3 to 4 months, so it's a toss up. :D

Hi Debra! I was in this thread for last Christmas and didn't quite make waist. So I am rejoining! I am still about a half inch off. Growing has slowed significantly since I reached mid back. I am getting my hair dusted tomorrow so the delay continues. But my hair is in very good condition and I'd like to keep it that way.

I am confident to hit waist, even full waist by Christmas. Good luck to everyone. May we all get the gift of waist length hair by Christmas!

I took this picture in April. It looks like I am nearly at waist. The coat I am wearing has a structure to it with a waist that's a bit higher than my own!

I'm joining too! I'm a mbl so waist should be manageable. I am due a trim though, I normally have 1-2" cut so if in can hold out on trimming I should make it. Everytime I measure waist it can be anything from 27.5-29" I'm currently at 25" so if I can hold off trimming by Christmas I should be at 28.5"

Maybe ... possibly possible here. BSL+ (little +) at this moment, and a quick estimate shows me about 2 inches from waist. Never actually hangs that long, owing to a combination of my own (fine) wavy hair plus braid waves. My guess is for me, hip length will look like waist length.

I'm hoping to make it by the end of the summer, but because of all the damage on the ends of my hair, I'm definitely going to be doing some trimming. So, I plan on making healthy waist by Christmas.

I hope I don't have too much damage done to my hair during the cheerleading season. Last year, what really bothered me was these two pieces my Mom's friend left down when I asked her to put my hair up in a bun for the semi-formal dance (she's a hairstylist) and she absolutely fried them to the point that when I washed my hair out after the dance, about two inches fell off of them in the shower.

So I've been trying really hard to grow out the damage from that, but it'll probably take a couple years to get it completely gone. I'm hoping I can trim my hair enough to get them back to the same length as the rest of my hair. At the same time, I've been trimming them to try and promote growth. I'm thinking at the end of the summer I'll take off 1/2 inch, go through the cheerleading season, and then remove at least another 1/2 inch.

After that I'll trim as I see fit.

Gillybeanxo3921 is it possible to use more hair friendly styles for cheer leading and forego heat? That might help (I know nothing about cheer leading)

I wanted to share that although I've not had significant growth, I started using a new conditioner and my hair feels so thick and strong, unfortunately it's coney but I just can't give it up now. (Bee strength or some such name by herbal essences I think) I have hardly had to oil at all and normally my ends dry up 2 days after washing, I'm actually having to wash due to greasy roots rather than dry ends! In another 3 inches I should be solidly waist, yay! So Christmas waist length hair, here I come...

I'd like to make this, but I'm due for a professional trim (I need help with my fringe and want highlighting), and last July when I went in he cut off more than I would have liked. I was a firm BSL then, and after the cut I was just above BSL. A year later and now I am a firm MBL, but I suspect he'd trim me to BSL again. So I don't know what I'll do.

I was planning to just s and d until Christmas but my ends are struggling again so I might do a bit of a microtrim to make them nicer but it will slow my progress so much to keep trimming and I want waist so badly!

Congratulations on those who are getting closer, I'm sure you'll be there by the time Christmas comes around.

I don't know if I'll make it, but it's fun trying to see if I will!!! And, with this "goal" in mind, I stop playing with scissors, so I definitely have a better chance of making it being in this thread, than not being in this thread!!! I figure if I want to "trim" or do bangs, etc., I'll just wait until AFTER I reach this goal.

....now, if I could just translate this theory to my bank account....I'd be a little richer too!!!

I'm just at BSL, too, but I also want to join! I'm a bit over 23" myself, and I think waist is about 27" on me. I'd so love to be waist-length by Christmas! That's less than 6 months to grow just under 4 inches. It sounds almost doable, but only if I try really hard to be careful with my hair, eat properly, etc.! Even if I'm a bit shy of waist-length at Christmas, at least I will be that much closer and will have dedicated a lot of time to making sure my hair is as healthy as possible. Excited!

Are most of you measuring your hair in its natural state, even if that's quite wavy or curly? I have to admit that I am measuring mine when I pull it straight/taut, so waist for me won't really look like waist unless I flat iron my hair (which I haven't done in almost a year). Of course, I really want my hair to appear waist-length even when it's wavy, but I feel like "cheating" a little by measuring my longest layer pulled taut will help me feel like I'm actually making some progress!

My routine is pretty simple: I wash and condition my hair every day with whatever herbal essence shampoo and conditioner I happen to have at the time. However, I've really been into pre-oiling with coconut oil first and doing warm oil scalp massages with coconut oil. I think the coconut oil was what really helped my hair. After I get out of the shower, I put a little Shea Moisture Reconstructive Elixir in it (and I mean a LITTLE. Like one spray on each 'side') and comb it out and boom. Done.

I've also been taking biotin and folic acid, which definitely help my nails so they must be helping my hair too, right?

But aside from the oils and washing/conditioning it, I pretty much leave my hair alone. I might do the odd mask or rinse every now and again if I feel my hair needs a little oomf, but seriously. Using coconut oil every day has worked wonders for my hair.

THAT'S soooo funny that you say that, I JUST started with my coconut oil again tonight!!! I would have started yesterday but I put it in a "safe" place, and well, you know how that goes. But, I tore apart my apartment tonight looking for it and EUREKA!! I found it!!! So let's hope it has the same benefits for my poor old hair as it seems to for your hair!!! Thanks for sharing!

From what I understand, coconut oil isn't actually a protein in itself, but it does prevent the hair from losing protein. My hair is pretty protein-sensitive, but it does well with coconut oil as a pre-wash treatment. If I actually leave even the smallest amount of it on my hair, though, it tends to straighten out my curls.

I'm only about an inch or two away, but I'm going to lose half an inch in November during my regular trims to try to get rid of the layers. I gain about half an inch per month, so I'm thinking I'll make it! It'll be a close call, though.

I should have been at waist this month but my hair has stalled at 28" (31" is waist for me). This is so frustrating. Grow, hair, Grow!

Despite my best intentions and not needing a trim as of yet, I'm too far (~5") away and my hair has been growing rather slowly, about 1/2" a month, average enough I guess but unless I get a surprising growth spurt I'm going to be 2" short at least :sigh:

I may actually do this! I have about 1.5 inches to waist for my longest hairs. I was hoping to get there sometime this winter/holiday season. Here's to growing

Not entirely sure if I'll be waist by then, but I'd love to try and get as close as possible! I'm going to be trimming my hair three times a year now, every four months, so hopefully it should retain length much better. Also, thanks for the compliment in the braid waves thread :o I really like your 'do in your avatar.

Good Luck and Thank you!

Count me in :) Ever since I started growing out, which is getting awfully close to 3 years, I've been dreaming of WL. Now I'm less than 2 inches away and I am truly hopeful to reach this milestone by Christmas.

Wow!! Only 3 years?!!! Congratulations! I've been here 5 years now and still trying to reach waist! But, at least I've finally hidden my scissors now!

I seem to have stalled at 25.8" and 28" is solid waist for me so if I make 26" by the end of this month and grow an inch each month then I should just make it :crossfingers:

I totally know how you feel. Really. Keep plugging at it!

I'm only about an inch or two away, but I'm going to lose half an inch in November during my regular trims to try to get rid of the layers. I gain about half an inch per month, so I'm thinking I'll make it! It'll be a close call, though.

Congratulations though!!! Even if you don't make it, you're closer by Christmas!!! That was my mantra in my Waist by Christmas 2013 thread!!!

I wanna try, it's my first goal here!

Welcome to the thread and good luck!! :D

If I don't cut my hair (help me resist the temptation!), I should be able to reach waist by Christmas. I'm in the middle of a growth spurt, so here's hoping!

Way to go on the growth spurt!!! Hide the scissors!

I will definitely make it as i'm only one cm away :D

You must be so excited!!! I'm excited for you!

I should have been at waist this month but my hair has stalled at 28" (31" is waist for me). This is so frustrating. Grow, hair, Grow!

I'm totally with you on those sentiments! I'm hoping my theory that red wine and chocolate helps with growth spurts!!!

Looking forward to some updates :) I'm verrry little past BSL so i know i have much longer than that to go BUT i hope to be MBL by my birthday which is in Jan... Would that be possible? I can only hope :D

Last night was a bit hectic for me, so I couldn't take the pic; but tonight I will for sure. Yes, it was a self trim ... it's been almost 2 years since the last time I visited a "hairstylist" (who took me from BSL to chin in 2 seconds :(:slap: ) ... since then, I promised myself I wouldn't do it again....

Today, a coworker is visiting my boss hairstylist who supposedly only cuts what you ask for... I will go with her to see her technique and if is true what my boss says... maybe I will brave myself into getting a trim by a professional... let's see....

I think not all hairstylists are that bad :) Some of them, i know, worships long hair and treats it with a huge respect. I think you should check that hairstylist out... Ahhh... I wish instead of a christmas present i 'd wake up and see that my hair is waist lenght, thick and shiny :D But it won't happen. I'm not even at APL yet :(

I think I am about 1 inch away from waist - I'll have to take another picture soon and see!

One sad thing I've noticed about getting so close to what was always my "ultimate goal length" is that it no longer feels long enough to me - Now I really want it to be hip length and so waist length feels kind of short to me haha You'd think that after three years of growing my hair out it would finally seem long to me. But alas that is just not the case!

So, how did the hairstylist do?

Mmmmm... not so great... she really cut a lot... So, i will continue with my plan of micro trimming and maintaining for as long as possible.

Really? you think so? I will wait until Christmas, just to be sure. Anyway, my final goal it's waist, so I will work harder on the health, shine, softness, etc.

Let's see if I don't change my mind. :)

I will be solidly at waist sometimes in the next few months...right now, I have about 50 hairs that are already there lol

but...I am most likely trimming in October, so I don't know where that will end up putting me just yet

I'm out

I cut back to BSL and might go shoulder-length before the end of the year (cutting off old, colored hair and going natural)

I hope to be at waist stretched in June 2015 (about 18 mos from now) and at real waist maybe 2017, I 'm a curly.
Encouraged by this thread.
That was smart, by the way, the person who watched someone else get cut by the hairstylist before going under the scissors herself. I have had some baad experiences, but I know there are good ones out there. Sorry this was not the one, keep self trimming.

Just taking a moment to check in....Did you all get what you wanted for Christmas? I was in this thread last year and didn't quite make it. Finally hit waist (30 inches) sometime over the summer. Going on about 31.5 inches now with lots of dustings. I've decided to stop at 32 inches and start maintaining. Will be getting a professional trim hopefully by February. Merry Christmas everyone!

I did make it to waist and a bit further - at least for some of my hair! It seems it's getting to that length where some strands end here, others end there. It needs more protection now, that's for sure. I'll probably have to start wearing it up. One of these days I plan to do my annual trim and hopefully it'll still be waist or real close.
