Did the curls pull out for the most part? At what length?

That's what it looked like in 2011 :

And a few month ago :
http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab39/aeltt/fevrier2013_zps87012856.jpg

Bigger curls. They actually fade away a day or two after washing and i get some kind of deep waves curly naughty mess.
I'm actually considering getting layers to bring back more curls.. But i'm affraid of scissors happy hairdressers.

ETA : and it was even more curly when it was shoulder length but i don't have any good pictures. The longer it gets, the bigger/looser curls I have.

This is 6th grade to 9th grade. I'm not exactly sure the length difference, but I do know that my hair was somewhere between apl and bsl in the 6th grade pic, and in the 9th grade it was a couple inches past bsl. I like my hair better this way, as the spirals were high maintenance, tangled easily, and were frizzy nonstop, the looser waves I get now are A LOT easier to deal with. I put coconut oil in them which deals with the frizz and the tangles, and I think it looks better. So honestly, growing my hair out has changed my texture for the better.

Thank you! I have layers currently, and I despise them lol. I can't do many updos or braids because of them....and when I wear my hair down I have to wear it curly or else it is very puffy. I'm hoping that the curls pull out soon. I know if I chop my hair to my shortest layer that will do the trick, but then my hair will be above my shoulders again. The longest layer is mid back.

I don't have any pics sorry :( ...

My hair when around bsl-waist, with no post wash brushing and a little help from scrunching, ends up like that big mop of red wurls julia roberts had in pretty woman http://blogs.whatsontv.co.uk/movietalk/files/2009/02/julia_roberts_pretty_woman.jpg
Now I'm HIP+ I find the wurls are limp and not as voluminous, kind of a boho beachy kind of thing all the way to the ends with a few loose curls around the face. I think a major factor is not having layers at this length. The canopy doesn't spring up, just gets weighed down like the rest and then flattens the underneath part (which was already loosened from its own weight).

Pretty dress in the second photo - it really works with curly hair too!

Aeltt and Gillybean...I do love both of your hair! Now it looks like you both don't really have "layers" now...just a gentle U-shaping? Would that be correct?

Goldloli, that sounds like what I want...I know I can't have volume at the crown and no layers too....I'm just going to have to accept that. At my latest hair appt...she cut my shortest layers shorter to give me volume...my fault for asking for it....only afterwards did I realize what a mistake it was. :(

Here is what I'm working with currently:

My curls started pulling out at the top when my shortest layers were around BSL. You can see that my hair now is still just as curly in the bottom length as it was at BSL.

Same here.

Fall 2010 (linked because huge): http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3056&d=1362552926

Fall 2012 (about 50% dry, so much reduced volume, but the texture is pretty true): http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3069&d=1362553406

The color difference is just lighting. But wow ... those were only 2 years apart. I didn't realize it grew that much in that little time. :)

Great idea for a thread! I've been curious what my hair will look like longer...

Oh fluffy you do have cute curls! Yes I'm sure yours will fall and become looser the longer your hair gets since they are only slightly tighter than mine were.

Also as my hair grew longer, I took to the habit of wet combing post shower, then applying a heavy serum/leave in to loosen the curls.

Fluffy01 : Thank you ! And yes that's a fairytalish U shape. I micro trim where the ends look damaged, so my hair must have a random crooked line.. But i don't wear it straight so who cares :)

cranberrymoonz : Thanks ! I wish it looked this good everyday.

Elithia : wow impressive growth ! It took me like 6 month more than you to get to waist. And i'm short, mind you..

Merlin : oh i didn't realize you were talking about me, but since i'm the only one with a dress.. haha. Thank you anyway, i think high waisted dresses show off the length nicely ;)

I trim my layers by hanging my hair upside down, and cutting straight across the bottom. No salon needed!

My shortest layer is almost armpit and my longest layer is almost waist. Layers are great for wearing my hair down but they also make updos/braids taper significantly.

If you want longer layers, Put your hair in a ponytail, then bring the tail over the top of your head and trim straight across the bottom. The lower you make the ponytail, the longer the shortest layer will be.

actually, I do have layers but I'm working on getting rid of them. I'm hoping since I am capable of oiling my hair and combing it out to decently wavy instead of curly, I won't have to deal with the boxy shape people get. Hopefully with length my that goes away! I guess once I get rid of my layers, if I do have the boxy shape, I'm going to have to go into a salon and get layers put back in. At least after all that I'll have healthy ends.

Wow such beautifull curls! I'm not that much of a curly (I'd call myself wurly) and unfortunatelly my hair does not have the same texture it used to. But if you have tighter curls, they'll probably resist more (on the fist pic I am about shoulder+/almost APL, with natural texture)
