I've noticed that people have started making hair ties out of fold-over elastic. I ordered some in a variety of colours and I'm finding it useful to tie off braids. It looks like ribbon but is a nice soft elastic and doesn't slip. I've found you can thread large-hole beads onto it, and the beads just stay on and don't slip off.

Any problems with it so far or is it a good alternative to hair ties? Cause I have loads of this stuff laying around.

I've been using FOE to make hairties for over a year now. They're all DD6 and I use for braids and ponytails anymore. It comes in plenty of pretty colors (search online or etsy) and they're super easy to make.

I take 1 yard and cut it into quarters (4 ties per yard).

I fold the 1/4 yard in half and tie a simple knot at the end.

Last, I pass the ends of the FOE over a candle flame (not too close) to seal the ends so they don't fray.

Easy!

Here is an example of what the finished hairties would look like. No, this is not my shop, I don't make stuff to sell on Etsy or anywhere else. This is purely a visual example of what the ties would look like.

I have been using them for over a year and have not noticed any damage.

Here are some more I made today. I didn't pass the ends over a candle flame so they are a little frayed. It amazes me that the pandora style beads don't slip off. You can't seem to shake them off if you try (though they are easy to pull off).
