View Full Version : What determines birthday listing?

I've noticed that most days out of the year, there are about 30 users with birthdays. However, on the forum page, under ten are listed, and you have to click through to see the rest.
What determines the birthday listing? Is it number of posts? Last date of activity on the site? Throwing a bunch of cheese, and whomever it hits are the lucky users?
Just wondering...

Is it the members who choose to have their date of birth public? If I'm right, do I get a cookie?

Hmmm, that's interesting. I'm one of those with a private birthday date [not ashamed of my age!] and I would like to know that my birthday is completely hidden. Sure, you'd have to go thru some extraordinary steps to find it, I guess, but I'd hope that it doesn't show at all even when people go hunting...

I just know they show in order of age, so unfortunately on my birthday, I'm listed first! :p

Raederle's got it. From what I've seen by perusing, the people that have a publicly listed birthday have it showing on their user page and it gets listed on the LHC homepage on their day.

So...to follow up PseudoScot's question...your birthday WILL show up on the complete list if you push the purple button (which I just discovered)? Even if it's not public on your profile?

What purple button are you speaking of?

To the left of the birthdays on the forum homepage - there's a purple button which is click-able [I only found it because intothemist1999 mentioned it]

That IS weird - there are only three people showing on the front page, but when you click on that purple button next to their names, loads more names show up. Surely if those people had wanted their birthdays private, that privacy should be absolute? I hope so - I've got my birthday set to be invisible.

All the names on the viewable list have their birth date public. The difference on who shows up and who is hidden under the button appears to be whether they visited LHC that day or not. Those who visited get listed in full view, those who didn't are hidden until the button is clicked.
ETA: One correction, the name also shows up if they have had any activity on the profile today (someone else posting on it.)

Oh, that thing. I don't think of it as a button. That explains my confusion! Thanks!

Huh? Birthdays show up? What on earth are you talking about? Where are the birthdays? How do you guys FIND this stuff? :silly: (you KNEW I wouldn't have an answer)
Seriously, I don't nkow the answers to all the questions, but my guess is that if your birthday is private, it will remain private. My money's on age or post-count, personally. I only know that mine shows up every year, and I have BOTH those things working in my favor: I'm old AND I talk alot. ;)

It's at the bottom of the main forums page. WAY at the bottom.

Seems like everything's well arranged, now. And, look, I found some strengthening beverages to help enjoy a lovely Friday evening.

(Just for the record, I was teasing about not knowing about the presence of Member-Birthdays, lest someone think I am truly THAT nescient. I'm a LITTLE better than that. Not much, but a little ;) )

FWIW, mine's set to private and does not show up on the calendar, I just looked myself up to see what would happen.
