View Full Version : I have PINK hair. >.<

It starts with me being a confident box-dye fan for a long 7 years. After 7 years of ginger hair I wanted a change, so I went for some Poppy Red Directions, which people told me would wash out after a while. It didn't. No shampoo, lemon rinse or salt scrub would take care of it.
Two months later I really needed to get rid of the roots regrowing and the dark red, so I went and tried to bleach it on my own.

ERROR NUMBER ONE!

I ended up with BIGHT FUSCHIA pink hair. I panicked and threw some ginger over it again. Since I work in sales, I couldn't do the bright fuschia. A friend who's a hairdresser took me this saturday and patiently bleached it with something really soft but that you need to massage in the hair, no peroxide, just pigment remover. Which he did for 3 hours. Then we rinsed, then he put some ginger dye back on it. The dye didn't take. So now, I look like this:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8238/8563620869_271a3370cf.jpg

I don't mind it so much, I mean, I actually like this color. The problem is that at my job, I can probably run around like that a week or so saying it needs to rest from the bleaching and coloring, but then, I need to fix it.

Problem is, chemical dye will no longer take on it. I was thinking to henna over it, I'll definitely do a strand test first. I'm just hoping it won't be a bright orange with maybe a pink undertone.
My other option is to go back to a wash-out dye.

Anyhow, I just wanted to share the disaster. If anyone has experience or input, it'd be much appreciated, but for all your hair's sake I sure hope you don't...

Ohhhh I love that color and it's so in style right now!

I would use hot oils and try to baby the damage and a protein treatment that week that you are letting it rest. Henna takes time to oxidize so you might end up with a copper orange that eventually gets darker, but it can take up to 5 days.

What's your natural hair color?

Nymph
March 17th, 2013, 03:15 AM
Dark blonde, I never really liked it. I've been dying my hair for 10 years now, but this one is a novelty.

Strangely enough a LOT of people have complimented me on my hair. Well, it's pink and tailbone length, I guess it's definitely a rarity. But I'm just not sure I'm really comfortable with it in the long run, even if they'd be fine at my job.

Ooh, I really love that colour! If they're okay with you keeping it at work, perhaps you can give it a go for a while and see how you like it?

chemicale dye doesnt take, then henna wont take well also. this is because both need your protein bonds in your hair to bond on to them. i suggest you get a deep treatment with either Grund Tiger Reconstructor or Aphogee 2 Step. i would prefer Grund Tiger as it is much easier to use. also use the Grund Tiger Masque. these are 2 different protein treatments, both reconstruct your hair almost permantely. they do build up on each other, that means, i had bleach fried hair and these products made my hair almost virgin over time.
if chemical dyes wont take that means your hair is damaged and you lost a lot of protein bonds.
i got Tiger over the net through amazon, the bottle last quite some time. in the beginning i used it once a week, then every 2 weeks, then once a month, now i dont need it much anymore, maybe every couple of months. i have to reorder though.
make sure you do a moisturizing deep treatment after the recustructor. i do just suave strawberry or so with coconut oil for 20 min under plastic cap or foil with a towel wrapped around it. the tiger masque doesnt need that it is moisturizing.
i know its not a quick fix sorry.
what you could try, get a Protein Filler Spray let the hairdresser spray your hair right before colouring with it and put the colour on top. it might grab if your hair is not lacking too much protein.
good luck:blossom:

Oh, I love that colour! It looks great on you. :D If you like it and wouldn't mind keeping it, could you perhaps get around the work situation by explaining that you actually can't fix it and might end up with something worse if you try?

It seems like you've already tried color remover like Color Oops or Color B4; many members here have had success with it even to remove henna. I agree with alyaziaaaah that a protein treatment would be beneficial no matter what - if you add more dye it'll help it take, and if you keep the color it'll help some of the bleach damage. If you need a more natural-looking color, maybe check out a color wheel and use a rinse in the complementary color? (I'm tempted to suggest a tealish green food coloring, but I don't know how hair-friendly that would be.)

Count me in with those who think the color is amazing and you should keep it if you can. :) No, it's not natural, but it's not garish and it works incredibly well with your complexion.

*waits impatiently for the day when tattoos, body mods, and creative hair color is accepted in the workplace*

Even though it isn't the color you want, it looks pretty cool! Be careful with whatever dye method you choose - strand test first. And I second the protein, protein, protein recommendation.

Can you french or dutch braid? I think that would be a good way to get your hair out of the way and take focus off it at work, especially since it's not a garish color.

That is the coolest non-natural hair color I've ever seen. And I don't really like hair colors that don't look natural. If you can, you should try to keep it. It looks very good on you. :D

That color looks great on you! As everyone has been saying haha. I don't really have any advice re: getting rid of it to add, but just wanted to add to the affirmation if you can't get rid of it and your work ends up not having too much of a problem with it.

I'm just going to jump on the bandwagon here and say it looks AWESOME! It's a beautiful color for you, and it's really not all that shocking. It honestly almost looks like it could be a natural color... even though of course people don't have pink hair... if that makes any sense. Kind of like strawberry blonde, but enhanced. I do hope your work lets you keep it. Trying to add more dye would probably just make the situation worse. I say if at all possible, stick with this nice-looking, non-garish color and treat it really nicely until it grows out. I second the person who said maybe your work will understand if you explain that you CAN'T fix it since dye won't take anymore.

The pink is so pretty -- could you use a burgundy semipermanent to go over it to get rid of the pink or at least deepen it? I have very little experience coloring, so I'm probably way off -- if all else fails, you could see a color specialist!

I'm going to baby it for two good weeks then decide on it. Maybe I'll be bored with it by then, maybe I'll try with a really soft diluted pink tone, or maybe I'll go back to ginger. It will also depend on what my hair will be able to take at that point, since I ended up with pink because my hair wouldn't take any dye, I'll have to be cautious about what I do next.

I think it might even look good if you just go with growing your roots out natural, and leaving the rest as it is for a while. What's your natural color? It sounds like dying so much damaged your hair, if it won't even take the dye anymore... You could grow out healthier hair, while still enjoying having a lot of length of this amazing color for a long time. That, or use a hair-friendly non-permanent dye like Manic Panic over your unbleached roots to match or compliment the pink. Just my :twocents:

That color is beautiful! I actually squealed out loud when I saw the full-length shot, because it just looks too good to be true. I love super-long, pale pink or peachy-pink hair, so I'm probably more thrilled than I should be by the fact that you're keeping it for now. If you ever do decide to transition to a more natural color, I have a friend who had moderate success with ash-blonde highlights (she started with a partial highlight, and added more over time. The ash blonde helped to neutralize some of the warmth of the pink and made it look more natural overall).
