I just got my results from 23andMe. Here are my genes related to hair:
rs7349332 in gene WNT10A is heterozygous (CT). CC is "typical amount of hair curl" (whatever that means) and TT is curlier hair.
rs17646946 in gene TCHH is AG. GG is associated with curlier hair.
I'm sure there are more curl genes.
rs6625163 in gene AR is G (it's on X). rs6113491, between genes on 20, is AC. This combination means reduced probability of baldness. I show no sign of going bald.
rs1805007 in gene MC1R is CT. That means my melanin is half black and half red. T is red and C is black.
rs1667394 in gene OCA2 is CT. TT is blond; CC is black or red.
rs3827760 in gene EDAR is AA. This is an F/M/C gene, and I'm M, so there must be another gene. GG is coarse.
rs1050828 and rs1050829 in G6PD are C and T, respectively, which are the usual type. This has nothing to do with my hair per se, but it means that my enjoyment of henna is not impeded by G6PD deficiency.

Oh that's cool! I want to do that too. Not sure I understand it all yet though.

Is it expensive?

^They dropped the price to $99 a few months ago. I consider that affordable, but they have a backlog of 6-8 weeks processing the samples.

Cool. What kind of tests to they run for that? I have all kinds of health issues and insurance wont pay for testing.

Here are a few:
Chronic kidney disease risk
Type 2 diabetes risk
Lung cancer risk
Warfarin sensitivity
Pseudocholinesterase deficiency
Cystic fibrosis
GRACILE syndrome (is there a ROBUST syndrome?)
Torsion dystonia
Alcohol flush reaction
Norovirus resistance
HIV progression

PM me a list and I'll see what they have.

This is so interesting. How do you get it? Presumably you have to send them your DNA somehow... Do they have a website with more information?

That's really interesting. And it seems like you got good hair genes too. :)

The website is https://23andme.com/. They send you a box with a tube in it, you spit into the tube, and you send it back.

Waiting on my results now. It'll be interesting to say what it says about thyroid issues and hair loss as well as other things.
the waiting is awful.
