If any.
I don t mind what people think about my hair, but still, I hope, somebody, when my hair grows long, could say:
Your hair is like waterfall ! :blushing:

I usually wear my hair up for work. A couple times a month I will wear it down if it looks good to do so. A woman at work said to me....Wow, I didn't know you had long hair, it looks very nice. I was a bit surprised, but welcomed the comment just the same.

Any kind of comment I get on my hair always makes me feel good. We put so much time and effort in our hair that it is nice when it's noticed.

Any! :) I'm just happy if someone notices my hair at all, most people are indifferent to hair, hairlenghts and hairstyles I guess. :P That is, when it's not in some trendy cut or something.

The best one I've gotten so far is (when I took my bun out) "Wow, there's so much hair hidden in that bun! Your hair is so long and it doesn't look bad at the ends like most people's with very long hair" (or something alone those lines). This was said to me by my colleague, when my bun was nearly falling out and I had to re-do it. The funny thing is, that she sees it as 'very long' while it's not, by any means, IMO.

XD

When I was a freshman in high school, I got in an argument with a senior about that exact same compliment. She turned out to be the sister of one of my friends.

She said she overheard a girl saying that, and she was a moron for doing so, because the girl was gasping and basically 'Like, oh my god, your hair is like a waterfall?' (I'm convinced that a lot of girls end their statements in questions, though I don't know why), and I argued that it was perfectly fine because of the way hair can fal and shine in certain areas. Eventually, I backed down and even took her side. If I had gotten in the same argument now, I probably would've stood by it.

What I sort of want isn't a compliment so much as the 'HOLY ****' gasp that people give you when they see hair long, or when you take it down for a moment to put it back up again. Basically what Nightshade is going for evilly against her stylists. xD

The same one I used to get: your hair is sooooo thick! Before I had some thinning, people were as likely to comment on my hair's thickness than on its length. Sigh! I want it back!!

Any is welcome!
I'd like some compliments over the color, but since most think it's dyed I don't get those.

I would love to get a compliment one day on the health/quality of my hair.

I get compliments occasionally at the moment on the length (between waist and TB) but my hair is very damaged from previous lack of care and the best compliment to me would be on how healthy it looks (although this will be a few years down the road)

I did have a wonderful moment a few months ago when I got my hair trimmed, and the hairdresser gasped when she de-bunned my hair and everyone in the salon gathered round to look! I try not to care for the approval of others but I couldn't help feeling proud!

I'd love to hear something about the length and condition at the same time, something like: wow your hair is so long and in beautiful condition! I'm sure many people here have already had that one in real life.

I'll settle for, "Your hair is beautiful!" Yea. That'd do just fine. :)

Any compliment is fine by me! But, I must admit that I would prefer a compliment about the condition of my hair rather than just the length. Anyone can see when hair is long, but it takes someone who knows a little about it to recognise hair that's kept natural and in good shape. It just makes the compliment that much better because its coming from someone who really has taken a good look and possibly cares... I would probably start a conversation with that person about hair care!

"Your hair is lovely."

Basically, any compliment that is not closely followed by some remark about how I don't have thick hair :( It's not even thin!

I have gotten the waterfall compliment before, but on a picture, so I kinda dismissed it as the flash making it look better. But now that I think about it that IS a really nice compliment, picture or no. I guess I just have to learn to accept compliments and not make excuses for them...

That said, I do think that the last time I went to the dentist (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=9070)and got that, "OH my god! Is that all REAL?!" thing from my oral hygienist.

My other favorite one was a little girl that tugged on her mom and pointed to me and said, "MOMMA! She has PRINCESS hair!"

I can't think of anything better than those two. :)

I agree, I would love a compliment on the condition of my to be "healthy" hair.

I was pleased when a couple of friends recently told me they like the colour of hair. They have seen me go though the dye hair colours that did not work.

I get so many not pleasant your hair is to long (BSL) and do not like red hair comments from family. I do not like red on me, but any warm colour past warm blond is red to some people.

My hair is an unusual color, so most of the comments I get are on that. I'd love to get some about how long it is! I definitely fall into the category of those above who are looking for shock value! This is one of the reasons I can't wait to get to classic length, I think it will be a lot more "oh my god, so long!" then.

I must say, "princess hair" sounds pretty good too. I guess I need to hang out with more little kids ;)

I can't wait for my hair to get long enough so that it can be called mermaid hair. I had a friend tell me that my goal length would give me mermaid hair.

I would really like someone to tell me my curly hair is really shiny. I just have naturally un-shiny hair.

I got a cool hair compliment today, I had a patient on my table, he noticed my ponytail, and he said "Oh honey, your hair reminds me of my good old days." This guy was born 1930-something. I didn't ask him to elaborate. But he said it was beautiful, so I'm taking it as a compliment. He looked like a character. LOTS of tattoos. ( I was taking his xray).

I do on occasion when I'm out shopping :)

Another one I got at a wedding reception was a little girl telling me that she liked my Ariel hair. Took me until I got home to figure out she was probably talking about The Little Mermaid.

So yeah, is that REAL?! Princess hair and mermaid hair. Apparently my favorite hair comments are the one that place my hair somewhere outside the realm of reality

They're rare, but I do get compliments on the length and volume of my hair, because I wear it up a lot (since my hair is fine, the bun is not as large as it might be). The best compliment was when I was in college, and my hair was only mid-back; my then-boyfriend said he dreamt he was walking through a forest of my hair!

This is an interesting thread! haha

Well since I'm in the awkward stage (between 8 and 20 months of growth from shaved hair) my hair SEEMS to look longer every few weeks. My friends are constantly telling me "your hair grew!" and "i love your hair!"...

When my mum brushes my hair or tries to put it up she always says "God your hair is so THICK!!!!" :D

When I go swimming it gets better :). My curls stretch down and I look like I have proper mid-length hair... people at parties just stare at my hair and say "since when was your hair THIS long?!"

Yesterday this guy I know who's always flat-ironing his hair and putting highlights and whatever saw me for the first time in many months. I was flicking my hair away from my face lol and he said "how long have you been growing it? It's so cool!!"

The general comment is "BIG HAIR!" or "afro man".. but when it was slightly shorter it used to be a much bigger afro than it is now.

At school and work I was identified as "The curly one"... people with straight hair used to wish they had my hair and other jealous ones wanted me to flat-iron it so that I look like one of them :P

The compliments I'm HOPING to get are mainly:
About colour (I didn't chemically dye it for nothing :( )
About shine (that compliment doesnt seem to exist here)
About softness (nobody feels my hair unless I tell them to!)
About suitability (it would be nice for people to tell me long hair suits me, since that's the main reason I'm growing it!)

I gues that's it. I don't ask for much, right? :P
However the people on LHC compliment me about most things I love hearing :D, thanks guys!

I really don't know. I used to get hair compliments all the time when it was short (shoulder length). Like "thick, shiny, silky, beautiful color, nice volume...etc." Now I rarely hear any mention about my hair. I suspect that very long length doesn't really show off my hair the best. My little guy who has exactly my hair (but short) gets hair compliments all the time. :( Oh well, I wasn't growing my hair for compliments anyway.

Yeah I would be happy with any compliment. When I had red/black dye and a 200 dollar every-two-months hairdo I got compliments :D but after I dulled it down with brown dye and let it grow out...nada. : / But, I'm in a transition period, so it's two-toney and scruffy. It will probably look better in a couple of years.

Oh and sapphire-o, your hair definitely looks very shiny and silky! :)

One of my nicest hair compliment days was going to my ear-nose-throat specialist last year and how she loved my bun so much I offered to show her the length. My stylist (who moved away, so I have to trim myself) said to me, "Don't you ever cut your hair, or I'll kill you!" hehe

Once a guy in a store said something like, "Hey, baby, your hair is gorgeous. How long did it take to grow it so long?" but I think he was hitting on me, so not sure if it counts.

A friend of mine compared me to a goddess once, and another to some sort of Rennaissance or Medieval painting.

In my small town someone referred to me as, "You know, the chick with the hair."

The most recent perhaps-compliment was that my hair was "distinctive." I'll take it as a compliment, anyway. Half of it fell out a couple of years ago, so I don't expect to get any compliments anymore.

I'm aiming for the "holy #*%$ your hair is $*!# long!" angle.

I like it and it feels uncomfortable at the same time.

One day I had to shower in the morning and I did an infinity. Then I went to work and asked two gals I like if I could comb out and braid in their office. They said sure. And when I untwisted the infinity, the one gal just stared and apologized for staring, as she used to have long hair and missed it a lot.

I like folks enjoying my hair, but I'm also selfconscious about it. I almost never have it loose like I did with them, although it was like 1 minute while I combed and then 4 more while I braided it up.

One other time after being braided for weeks, and I had the hair down for a change, a new coworker just gasped. I guess I was surprised. Yeah if I have a big fat braid, it's going to be a lot of hair ... ?

It's still nice, lol

Not a what, so much as a who. I wish people who actually know me would compliment my hair, rather than the complete strangers at the bus stop that I usually get. Not that I mind compliments from complete strangers, but most of the reactions from the people I actually know tend to be of the "so, when are you cutting your hair?" variety. And my hair is not in any kind of shape that it needs cutting.

I'm changing my previous answer. It would really do it for me if somebody during my long hair journey said to me "You have great hair genes!".

This is because all my life I've only ever heard the opposite (ok mainly from my Mother:rolleyes:). And since finding LHC I have learned how to treat my particular hair genes to bring out the best in them (which still ain't that great compared to most of you here!).

I'd really like to hear a compliment about my hair when its up. even if its just about my hair toys. I usually wear my hear up for work, so when I occasionally wear it down I get a lot of compliments. But since I've found this site I've been learning interesting ways to put my hair up, and have bought all sorts of neat hair-toys that I had never ever used before. and no one ever notices those things! I've never seen anyone else wear hair sticks here, so I'm a little surprised that no one has commented on all my new toys!

Kerynna
December 16th, 2008, 08:05 AM
I think that non-long hair people don't pay attention to hairtoys in general. I know before I discovered LHC, and started growing my hair longer than its ever been, I didn't notice hair accessories on other people. I know there's a lady in the choir I sing with who always has a hairstick or fork in her hair but I never bothered to really look at it until now, since I have an interest in possibly using a similar accessory or just curious about what type it is, etc.

That said, I can relate to wanting a compliment on hairtoys. Yesterday I wore a flexi8 for the first time and I truly expected to get at least one comment about it when I wore it to work, but nada.

Back when I had waist-length people would always compliment it, often saying "you have mermaid hair" or "you have Rapunzel hair". *sigh* how I miss it. Since I was forced to chop it (long story...details in my hair blog) I've basically only gotten compliments on it from my DBF's mother. She has baby-fine pale blonde hair in a pixie cut so she loves that my hair is thicker.

However, my hair is finally getting to the length and health that it's finally starting to garner compliments again!!!! I've gotten a few various compliments and yesterday a stranger told me that I have gorgeous hair and a beautiful cut :D. This means a lot to me especially because of what my hair has gone through in the past few years.

I'm looking forward to getting back to "Mermaid" and "Rapunzel" status.

Any compliment about my hair looking healthy, shiny, or long is extremely pleasing to me (mainly because it looks none of those things haha), but probably the best actual compliment I've recieved was a guy who said my hair looked 'radiant' lol. I will be perfectly happy when anyone says anything nice about my hair. The closest to a compliment I have gotten has been something both BF and my sister said, "Oh, your hair is really getting LONG!" in a wondering voice.

I´m having so many kind words to my hair I don´t have more wishes of beautiful words, not more than all I´m receiving in here! But I wish I could have much more to say and many more words to express all beauty I see in all of you!! It´s astonishing to be able to find so many wonderful hair and wonderful people in TLHC! :)

I've had women who are total strangers come up to me and say,"I love your hair color!" -- I always think this is pretty cool. For some reason they are always surprised when I tell them that it's henna.

I also get surprised comments from my coworkers on the rare (these days) occasions when I wear my hair down: "Wow, I didn't know your hair had gotten so long!" When they first knew me I actually had pretty short hair, so some of them are really surprised.

What would I like to hear that I haven't? Hmmm, well, the mermaid hair thing sounds pretty good to me ...

I would LOVE you have someone say the mermaid hair thing!

In the very beginning, someone said she wanted to hear that her hair looked like a waterfall. that would be a nice compliment also.

I would love to have my hair compared to someone elses nice hair. Over the summer a friend told me my hair looked like the girl in Mama mias hair (the movie) which I thought was a good compliment.

I would love people to actually notice that I have long hair and mention how healthy it looks. I like to be recognized for all the hard work I put into my hair to make it healthy! lol

I have worn it up every day since February of this year, though after Christmas break, when, I go back to school I'm going to start wearing my hair down. And I'm going to try to henna my hair during Christmas break as well.

In the past I have received comments on how long my hair is, how healthy my hair is, what a beautiful color it is, but not in a long time.

Now I'd like someone to say something like, "Your hair is inspiring me to grow mine."

I never get compliments when my hair is up, I look so ... functional that way.

I do get compliments when it's down sometimes. Mostly the "Oh, your hair is beautiful!" Which makes my day. :o

But what I'd really like to hear is "Oh! You are so super cool to have hair like that!":rockerdud That would cover it all!

I want to change mine from 'you must have good hair genes', to having a 13 page thread over a mere 18 hours devoted to someone trying to find out who that person was with the incredible hair :D (the incredible hair in question, of course, being mine). Congrats, Emi!

I usually get embrassed when people compliment me. But its usually omg I love the color of your hair, or omg your hair is so thick. The last time I went to the hairdresser she told me my scalp was in awesome condition and asked me for advice on what I was doing to make it so healthy and i told her ACV! lol, BUT since I dyed the underhalf of my hair I havent gotten ONE compliment (besides my boyfreind but he doesnt count, lol) SO at this point I will take ANY compliment.

Oh ya and BTW for the other red heads out there I dont know if its just me but do you get offended when people ask you if you dye your hair. Thier like, is that your natural color or.....???? I get offended for some reason lol.

Fun post topic… I would love to get a Princess Hair comment…but haven't heard that yet.
Any compliment about hair would be nice…I usually just get. The normal… "Wow, your hair is getting long” or "Are you ever going to cut it? “ etc…
Although, I have had little girls tell me my hair looks like Arwen’s from Lord of the Rings…so that made my day!

I would love for someone to say this, "Wow, Ashleigh, I like your hair much more when it's longer than when it's shorter." I do have a friend that does say this but he doesn't count, he's the reason why I started growing in the first place.
And any comment of princess, mermaid, elf, or rapunzel would make me smile.

Well, I already have my hair at my waist (and probably past my waist), and although I do get some nice compliments now, I would appreciate any nice compliment. I am most interested to see the reaction of my friends and family when I grow my hair longer. It has always lingered around my waist area for years. Just some positive feedback would be nice! :) I know not everyone has the same views on long hair, and I have had some people try to convince me to cut it.

Ok.... maybe "princess hair" would be nice too. :)

When I had my hair near waist-length in high school, a friend told me I had mermaid hair :)

I would certainly like to get that compliment again, plus maybe that I have princess hair, or rapunzel hair maybe. Elf hair would be excellent as well. My best friend told me that I looked like an elf in one picture. I think it was more about the facial expression that the hair, though.

"Ooh, your hair is so beautiful!" or "Ooh, your hair is so thick and shiny!" (my dream compliments are always preceded by an "ooh")

I'm currently growing out my very fine, thin shoulder length hair. Shiny's never really been a problem, but people don't tend to love it long since there's so little of it.

Oh, and while I'm dreaming, I'd like a pony.

I was worried that I had put too much oil on my hair on Monday and my friend said "it doesn't look oily to me... it looks silky to me". It made me feel good. I like the "healthy" compliments and the "wow it has grown" compliments. Maybe someday I will be complimented on my salt and pepper? That would reassure me that it is ok to get grey! I rarely get compliments or even comments regarding my hair besides meeting new people and them seeing the length, but as it's up in some way most of the time a good style compliment or even a mentioned [and positive] notice would be great. Last time I really had someone comment in person it was a little kid asking why I had hair like a girl. Haha. I looked at him with a nice shocked expression and said, "No! Wow really?"

I love it when my husband comments on how good my hair smells
This is something I love to hear, also.
There is something wonderful about it when my boyfriend tells me this. He'll lay with my hair draped over his face, when we are laying about. I wear my hair up for work, so that every once in awhile I do wear it down, the guys at work always make comments on the length (it seems french braids shorten mine alot), one guy can not believe I haven't colored my hair in about 10 years. On that note, i need to get some pictures up.
I would love to hear you hair looks like spun silk.

I didn't realize how awesome an unsolicited hair compliment really is. I was at a school function, walking through a crowded hallway against the flow of traffic and someone I barely know grabbed my arm and said "your hair is just beautiful!"

A lot of people are saying they'd like to get "oh your hair is so long!". I've gotten that a few times, but not in a positive way. It's more like "oh your hair is so long (and you should cut it because it looks disgusting but I won't dare say it to your face)". In fact I actually once overheard a friend saying it was disgusting...

I don't really get hair comments but my favorite one to get would probably be something along the lines of "I've never seen a guy with such nice hair".

I eventually want to get a little kid come up to me and ask me if I am Rapunzel. I think at that point my hair goal will be complete. ^_^

A few years ago when my hair was thick and wavy and about APL I was the only one in the bathroom washing my hands after class and two girls walked in, one whispered to the other "wow she has really pretty hair."

I'd be happy if someone even notices the length enough to comment it. I don't actually care if it's in a good or bad tone as I would take it as a compliment either way. For someone to even notice must indicate that I've made a lot of progress.

I'll settle for, "Your hair is beautiful!" Yea. That'd do just fine. :)

I got that one today, from a cashier as I was making a purchase. The random stranger complement is, I guess, the one I was waiting for. This was after a couple of days of hearing people I see every day at work tell me "I had no idea your hair was so long" because I wore a braid instead of a bun on Tuesaday and Wednesday. I wasn't sure it was complementary at work, and I got the locks of love recommendation from one of my pals at work this week too:rolleyes: So, it was a relief at the store, when I got the "your hair is beautiful" compliment about that braid of mine.

Any of the following would be lovely:
"Can I touch it/play with it/braid it?"
"You look like a mermaid/elf/forest creature/other mythical creature!"

My boyfriend (we've been together since I was 16 - almost 6 years!) used to like it when I would hang my face over his and we would both be surrounded by curtains of hair.. it was like portable privacy. My friends call it a "hair house" :P

Yes, my hair has always been slow.

I don't think chemically dying and bleaching it has helped any either, I wish I had given that up earlier.

I dyed my hair all one color about a month and a half ago, no roots. NONE.

I remember 3 distinct episodes with my hair, the first when I left school, my form tutor told me that she would miss me and then said she had wanted to ask for years how did I make my hair shine. When the class were all working and heads down she could pick me out from the shine on my hair.
The second was I went to one of the hair dressing training salons in London. The student spent ages combing my hair, looking at my forehead, eventually asked to be excused while he got his tutor. The Tutor combed and looked - then called the whole class over to look at my 'strange hairline'!??! One of those ground please open up and swallow me moments.
Lastly my hair was BSL, and I decided that for the first time (& last) I wanted my hair permed. In the salon the stylist kept combing my hair and asked repeatedly "are you sure about this?"......comb......comb comb...."are really sure??", wish now I had said no. Now a plain wow would make me smile for a week.

I'm not fussed really. I'm growing my hair because I like it that way, other people don't have to like it too :)

Compliments from other longhairs that make bystanders roll their eyes, like: "Nice hair, but it is soooo short!" (from a woman with down grey hair longer than mine).

If any.
I don t mind what people think about my hair, but still, I hope, somebody, when my hair grows long, could say:
Your hair is like waterfall ! :blushing:

IF you get to 4-5 feet of hair, that's when this compliment will start being heard. It'll happen. You just have to be patient.

My favorite compliment ever was from a little girl, perhaps around 5-6 years old, and she saw me with my hair down in a hotel community meeting room, just outside the room, and exclaimed pointing, "Look Mommy, It's a princess.

She was darling and adorable. I know I made an impression that day. I spoke to her and her Mommy a little bit, and we had a fun conversation.

Most people do not know how to "read" hair. IF it's in a bun, most people can't even come to some sort of reasonable conclusion as to how much hair is really tucked up there. That's a specific skill to have, and in the world, there's no real reward for having this assessment skill. It's not like you get a promotion or make more money. So most people carry on under the idea that it's "just hair".

The thing is that YOU enjoy it, and YOU appreciate what you've got. That's all you really need, even though recognition is pleasant. Even hairdressers have these problems since most do not work with overly longer hair, nor have any idea really about best hair care suggestions and ideas.

YOU just have to know within yourself, and go with that, and ignore all the silence and crappy hair around you. I see horrible-looking hair nearly every day. I never say anything, and I've had less than a handful be curious about how I care for my hair, and even less than that inquire, and then they stand there and within about 2 minutes or less their eyes glaze over. They just don't care.

In my opinion, there is no reason whatever for having misbehaving hair or crappy hair. It's not that hard to take care of hair. But it seems to be an elusive thing for most people. I think it's because most are busy wanting their hair to do something other than what they inherited, and can't accept really, what the good Lord gave them.

.

I had something similair with a little boy, when my hair was black, only he screamed: "look daddy look, it is a witch" XD
his dad was so embarrassed, but the boy was so exited and happy that he had seen a witch, it was cute in a silly way.
don't think it was the best compliment ever, but I will never forget it. :p

I like it when people tell me that my hair is soft and shiny, and that happened a few times :)
