View Full Version : March 2013: Flipped Cinnamon Bun / Cinnabun

Hello everyone! We're a few days into March already, so we're a few days late for a brand new style. Let's get this rolling!

While we've already had a cinnamon bun / cinnabun as a style of the month, we're doing a modified version of it this time around. For March 2013:

The Flipped Cinnamon Bun / Cinnabun

How do you like to invert your cinnabuns? What do you feel are the best methods to secure it when you attempt the feat? Come one, come all, and style away!

Here is mine from August 2012. I seriously need a more recent one.

Basic flipped cinnamon held with spin pins.

Hypno Swirl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCuFWr3AsSo&feature=related) (cinnamon bun, one coil flip, loosen and flip the base and the flipped coil) held with two sticks.

And the unrecreatable side bun flip with Celtic Knot Bun decoration.

I really have no idea how I managed to flip the bun so that it looked like that.

Here is my attempt. I did a side cinnabun to start. I couldn't get the centered ones to work. I held it with spin pins (4). While it turned out to be comfortable on my head, it is not a style I would wear out. I took it down right after the pics. If was a dressy type, I would have adorned it with flowers.

Cool! I tried this a while ago but it held terribly, so I keep meaning to try it again with different holding methods. This'll give me the incentive. :) But here's the previous try:

Ah, mournful sigh! These are all incredibly scrumptious! Quixii, I love how the purple in your hair comes through! Gumball, love. Your pictures always look like they should be in some sort of glossy catalogue of excellence :o Neko, that celtic knot is amazing- Hair witchcraft! It's a shame it's not to your taste WSL, it's definitely stunning. I have the most serious hair envy for you, your strands look so fine and shiny.

Somewhat anticlimactically, I have nothing to show! My hair, whilst a vociferous lover of cinnabuns, seems not to be so keen on the flipped version- it looked less like a flipped cinnabun, more like a confused cookie monster face. Alas! Back to the drawing board!

I couldn't quite figure out what to do with my ends, so they're just sort of haphazardly stuffed in behind the bun, but it turned out a lot nicer than I expected. Two u-pins and this held all day for me, despite the semi-loose ends.

I had trouble with the ends being loose, too!

I think I may not be doing it right, half my cinnabun was obscured by the under-hair? Oh well. LOL

ravenreed
March 7th, 2013, 07:19 PM
Mine does that too, where the underneath covers part of the bun, but that's what I like about the look. I thought I a flipped bun pic, but it must have been in the old photos section... I will try to take another one. Add me to the "I have no idea what to do with my ends" camp. I just stuff them in and hope for the best.

I'm pretty sure half of the bun is supposed to be hidden by the under-hair. I just can't get buns to hold at all if I don't twist them really tightly at the base, so I didn't end up with much hair to cover the bun. So instead my loops sort of fanned out into something slightly different that I wanted/expected. But it looks cool and works fine, so I'm happy with it. ^_^

It doesn't help that my cinnabuns always want to turn into bee butts instead.

Okay - My attempt. I make this all the time, but never knew it as a "flipped cinnabun!"

Using my new hair toy - love, Love, LOVE it!!!

This is gonna sound dumb, but does anyone have a tutorial? When I tried flipping my bun, it turned into more of a vertical infinity bun, which is cute, but not the desired goal. :) I liked it anyway though and spin pinned it. :)

Here's my second attempt at one:

It looks a bit like a snail shell!

Somehow, I always have crazy stray hairs flying everywhere when I wear up-dos...

Long_hair_bear, here's the tutorial I used: http://suite101.com/article/four-easy-buns-for-long-hair-a139870

If you can make a cinnamon bun, you can theoretically flip it.

Cinnamon buns are a bit weird tho since they can actually disassemble themselves or just not be functional hairstyles at certain length and thickness combinations. Most cinnabun variants have similar issues, and it's not always possible to predict whether or how the bun will fall apart. Also, depending on your thickness, they may or may not be possible at all below a certain length threshold.

That said, a lot of other buns are flippable, so it can't hurt to try flipping other stuff to see if it works :D

It's also totally ok to go through older threads and bump 'em if you get the style to work. The hairstyle of the month threads are pretty good resources on a lot of classic styles. If this month's isn't possible, try something else that is.

Uhm, yeah, Cinnabuns, flipped Cinnabuns...I tried them but they're not the styles for me, because I still have so layered hair I hardly can make them look good no matter how I try.
http://imageshack.us/a/img405/8697/flipcinn.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img840/1705/cinnamonamish.jpg

And the same time I have the problems that my ends are to big to be easily hidden under the bun...

I DID IT!! I feel six epic kinds of awesome right now. Not only did I manage this...with very few tries, but this is the first time I've been able to wear my beautiful ficcare without serious difficulty.

Here's mine - it seems like the "flipped" part isn't as apparent as some of yours... I did tweak the picture a bit to try and make up for the indifferent lighting.

For once, a style of the month I can participate in! Today's flipped cinnabun:

http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k626/growingmyhair/IMG_6399_zpsfd79f72e.jpg

Every now and then I can get it to work with a hair fork, but most times what works best is using my spin pins to hold it, which is what I did today.

I've been wearing this style almost every day since I found this thread. :D (some days it looks better than others). I don't have enough hair yet for a cinnabun, but flipping it helps the ends stay in place! I love it!

Perhaps you are untwisting it a little too much before the flip? I'd start by playing around with the amount of twist or untwist required. Good luck!

Yowza, this is one that totally did not want to work for me, and I was so surprised because cinnabuns are the one bun I've had down for some time now! This is the closest I've got to a good one, though I must admit it fell apart not soon after this photo- I think I need a few more inches!

I tried this for the first time tonight (oddly enough, before I noticed it was hairstyle of the month). First try it was beautiful, but I could see the pins, so I took it out to re-do... and couldn't get the darn thing to work again! :/ I think my hair was too fresh-washed and slippery, so I'll have to try again tomorrow or the next day.

All these flipped cinnabuns are so pretty! :)

Magnificent hair styles everybody :) No matter how different the buns look on everyone, you can see the condition and colour in your hair and it is gorgeous. I shall have to try this in mine. My hair is very fine though so I don't know how it could possibly compare, but it is lovely seeing yours.

I know I'm quite late for this one, but I swear I did this in March, I just haven't had a chance to upload the picture yet. So here's mine! I didn't think I would be able to do it with my barely BSL and very thin hair, but it worked! Mine is not nearly as polished as some of you ladies, but my hairstyles never seem to be polished, lol.

reviving an old thread!

This was more challenging than I thought, I need a little more length I think, as the ends that want to poke out are pinned into submission, as well as a few odd lumps!

It looks great! Flipped cinnabun is my favourite sleeping bun, as the way I make it it doesn't put tension on the delicate hairline hairs.
