Wow - she has gorgeous hair. The faux layers are particularly striking - especially with her curls.

Her hair is stunning! I strongly suspect the second style needs thick textured hair like hers to really hide the twists and pins. Post pics if you try.

Exactly what I was thinking, I don't think anyone with 1 or 2 hair could pull it off, unless they had a ton of it, maybe? Still, it's a really awesome technique. I'd like to see someone with a different hair type try it!

Hmmm, if I were using my wurly routine I might give this a go! As it is, I'm bunning on wash day. Pretty sure those twists wouldn't hide very well under straight-ish fine hair full of cones! Maybe in summer...

I used to make the faux bob when I wanted a quick style and I loved it.

Wow I do love her real hair. The bob is neat also.

I agree with everyone, she has gorgeous hair. I have tried out the faux bob before but I have never thought of a layered bob like this. It's super cute, I will have to give it a shot.

So, I had a bit of free time last night, and figured I'd give this a try! Results:

Just like a few of you, I was very curious about how this would look on mostly straight hair (like mine). My verdict: mostly successful.

I had to hunt down every bobby pin in the house (embarrasingly, it seems that a bunch of them end up on the floor over time) and I still could have used a few more. I counted them when I took the style out: 35 :) The most I will usually use is 10, for braided styles. But despite all the pins, the style felt fairly comfortable. I think I felt like the hair would be too heavy, and weigh the bobby pins down, but I oddly didn't have too much trouble with that. I definately think that one of the big things that makes this style successful is the collection of tight little buns/twists at the back of the head. Those create a taut 'fabric' of hair to pin to.

Those buns/rolls to create some bulk at the back of the head, but it's not too bad, and really was hidden pretty well by the pinned sections of hair above it. I think I ended up focusing most of the hair toward the back of my crown, which made the sides a bit thin.

I was most concerned with how the top of the head would look, and while it doesn't look completely natural (I am so not going to fool anyone into thinking that I cut my hair), it still gives off the right effect. I don't think I would go to the store like this, but it is good for fun pictures, where you can delete the ones where pins are showing. However, there is a solution to this problem....

Cover it! Yay!

I could totally see this style being very cute with curled hair (like the UrbanOG video). Maybe try it out when you have some really nice braid waves going? I hope to see more of you try it out and post pictures!

Wow! That looks amazing, and I'm impressed that you got such good results with your hair texture and length. I bet having bangs helps, because it disguises the top a little bit from a front view. And the scarf looks great, I would definitely wear that out if I were you. Nice job!

Aww, thank you! Yeah, I totally think the bangs help disguise things a bit.

I keep meaning to try this, I tried it before but my hair was too short to make it look any good. May try it tomorrow :)

She has great hair indeed and the faux layers were awesome *o* I already knew the faux bob (and wore it last year on april fools. Some people noticed it was fake, others actually thought it was real)

I'll try the faux layers tomorrow (I can't right now, 'cause I'll have to go to work soon and I am not allowed to have loose hair on it, also if it goes wrong, I'll have no time to fix it)

healormor great results! I think you may be able to fool someone while wearing that head scarf ^-^

Beautiful job Healormor!

I kind of want to try this now! I'm going to have to buy some more bobby pins though, mine have gotten lost over the ages. I agree, with the scarf it's very well hidden. I have an adorable flower print one to tie on. I'll give them both a shot and share pictures when I do. Maybe I'll do some rag/sock bun curls the night before :)

I'd like to try this but I don't know how well it would stay, it seems like all the twisted hair would be too bulky for bobby pins to hold.

The bad thing about having an undercut on both sides is that there are so many hair styles I can't do... it sometimes makes me wish I had all my hair back again, but so far I'm enjoying my undercut too much to grow it back out just yet.

The faux layers will obviously not work on my hair, but I just tried the faux bob, and while my hair looked a bit thin/flat because of the undercut, it didn't turn out as bad as I thought. I may try it again on day 1 after washing (my hair is due for a wash right now, so it's flatter than it otherwise would be.
