Hairstyles for APL begginer

My friend is growing out her hair and has come to me for tips. She has 1a/b hair that is very thick and just past APL. I've shown her the nautilus bun which she can just about manage. I've bought her a 5" 3 pronged hair fork for her birthday (her hair is thick enough to need the longer prongs).

I wondered if anyone had any tips I could pass on to her.

I like the traditional bun myself.

When my hair was APL, the peacock twist became my best friend. We're best friends even now, and my hair's between hip & TBL. It's a really easy and versatile style.
