I need some help! I looked up a thread on this, but it was years old. I've been wanting to do synthetic dreads for years. Here's a link if you don't know what they are:

https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1G1SMSNCENUS349&q=synthetic+dreads&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=jHAqUajREIKe8gSUtoD4Cg&biw=1145&bih=624&sei=jnAqUZOMDojQ9ATZsYDIBA

I've looked up how to make them and have a couple of concerns. My hair is about hip length and I know you have to braid them in tightly. I am planning on doing DE dreads and so they will be a bit shorter than I'd like. I am worried about my hair being longer than the dreads and looking for advice for anyone who's done them with long hair. Thanks. :D

I had them done once by someone who had a special technique. I had around APL hair and she braided it in a special way into the beginning of the dread (which is like 5cm. So, my APL braided in a special way that made it just 5cm). So no hair was hanging loose.
This is of no use because I can't tell you the technique because I don't know. I'll try and google it for you :)

EDIT: Yay, I found a pic of it :D This is almost 10 years ago, wow!
But you can see the small braids on my scalp and then it turns into the dreads. That's all my hair in those tiny braids.

Thanks for the pic! I actually JUST found a video that explained it a bit better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCcAbIhJ1MA

Dunno how I am supposed to do that myself though. Lol.
