It seems to be the 'thing' now, to use photos of others to visualise your goals (some of which can be very damaging, especially when it comes to weight :( ) Do any of you have photos of hair to inspire you?

I do, except mine isn't even real hair, its a wig on ebay!!! Its right almost my exact colour (hennaed auburn) and is in the same style I intend to keep mine (face framing lavers, but none through the length....getting there slowly!) straight like mine, and is the PERFECT length that I'd love to achieve!

Is that weird?!

It's not weird. :) I don't have any pictures that I always go back looking at but I use LHC. I love to see pictures of hair that is similar to mine but longer. I lurk in certain threads for pictures. :eyebrows:

I have a couple of pictures from when my hair was MBL that remind me that I can get at least there I also lurk a few threds here because most of the people around here are awe inspiring and I dream of half as lucky with lovely locks!

Yes! :D I have a folder on my laptop dedicated to pretty hair.

I don't do that, simply because all of the hair I love is unattainable for me. I find that it's too painful for me to hope that I'll get very thick hip-length curls when in reality, I have thin, wispy, wurly hair that doesn't like to look nice beyond BSL. I try to just use my own good hair days as inspiration. :)

Films inspire me hair-wise. I have some that feature male characters with long hair - their own or a wig doesn't matter to me - which I get out every so often and watch if I feel a bit rubbish about my own hair. Body-wise, yes, I take inspiration from men who are fit. Photoshopped media images don't worry me. It's those men who have Youtube channels and make fitness videos that make me feel I can achieve something like them.

I keep a creeper folder on my computer that I save pics from here and elsewhere that I look at whenever I feel impatient with my hair. :eyebrows:

I do! Some are from real life, some are drawings or paintings. Any picture of long, dark hair (and that includes creepy ghosts from horror movies) will do.

Yup, a whole folder of them! Granted, some of them are short hairstyles when I want to indulge my occasional longing for a pixie cut. Others are updos, or different colors, or certain curls. Since I'm at my goal length, my "inspiration/goal" pictures are there to remind me why I love my hair this length so I don't go on a bender and cut it all off.

Speaking of that, Ghost, I love your avatar :3 what is it from?

LHC is my favorite hair inspiration, although things like Game of Thrones and LOTR do a good job. I haven't saved any pictures from here because I'd feel like a creep, but I should save my favorites, hahah. Then label the folder "porn" so nobody who finds it thinks I'm a giant weirdo.

I have a board on Pinterest with hair inspiration but not all of them are long hair, some are short to medium length haircuts that I might indulge in in the future. A lot of the long hair inspiration is of hair I can never have or hair that wouldn't look good on me, but it's still inspirational either way. I have olive-toned skin and would never look good in red hair but I appreciate the color all the same.

My main hairspiration photo at the moment is of myself! It's the one to the left in my siggy, showing the hair I had about 8 and a half years ago. I wasn't treating it all that well at the time, so my mission is to get back to that length *and* for it to be a lot healthier.

Another great hairspiration photo is of my great grandmother when she was young - she's facing the camera with a braid pulled over her shoulder and her braid reaches her hip (my great grandmother had super-long hair her entire life, even into her 80s). I'd love to be able to recreate that photo, but at the moment when over my shoulder my braid tail only reaches front BSL. If/when my hair is long enough I WILL recreate that photo and post it here!

I was hoping you would post the picture and it is gorgeous, I can see why it is special to you. :D Re-creating it would be so cool, almost like a nice tribute to her!

I don't think it's weird I know that some pictures really inspired me to grow my hair long :D as long as you aren't trying to have the same exact hair as in the picture I think it can be positive

I have a hairspo folder for length, colour, styles and toys. I prefer photos of hair that is similar to mine. There are several other inspiration folders as well.

I also have a tumblr for hair photos. The link is in my signature.

You know, I don't remember where I first found it. Probably creepgirlfrenzy at Livejournal, or fyeahcreepythings on Tumblr, someplace like that.
Here's another of my favorite, slightly creepy hairspirations:

At this point it's no secret that I draw Hairspiration from the animated character Katara in the series Avatar: the Last Airbender.

I'm inspired by many of the photos on here, which I don't have saved but just enjoy seeing as I browse LHC... I'm lucky in that I'm generally most inspired by hair that looks kind of like mine, but longer and healthier and maybe just a little wavier. Sure, I love looking at stick-straight blond hair, and red corkscrews, and coarse, kinky hair... but the pictures of really healthy WL or longer, medium, brown 2-types are the ones that make me go "ooooh, I really hope my hair looks like that someday!!"

I just emailed my mom and asked her to send me pictures of herself from the 70's for inspiration. She had thigh (?) length thick black hair.

Yes! I don't think it's weird at all! I have my "hairspo" folder set as a slideshow screensaver, so I get an unexpected reminder of what I'm working toward when I leave my computer alone for too long. :)

I'm so glad I'm not the only one, and not the only one looking at wigs either!! I'll pop up a photo of the wig I adore later on, its probably a little thicker than my own, but oyher than that, as long as I can grow that long, perfectly attainable for me :)

Becky9679-What a beautiful braid your grandmother had!! So thick! I can see why you'd use her for your inspiration!

Thanks! Mine isn't quite as thick as hers but it's good to know I've got some decent longhair genes in my past :D

I have some photos saved too - I tend to go for ones that have a similar colour/thickness/wave as my own so it's like looking into a (hopeful) crystal ball.

If we're entering the realm of paintings... I had a small version of this one on my wall as a teen.

@Naiadryade what a nice picture ^-^

Hehehe, it's funny how perceptions change over time! That painting is La Belle Dame Sans Merci by Waterhouse (based on the poem of the same name), and when it was first painted it would have been considered rather sinister and disturbing as well as beautiful because of the way she's 'trapping' the Knight with her hair! At the risk of a slight thread hijack, anyone who is interested in the way women's hair was viewed at that time might want to read this blog (http://thebeautifulnecessity.blogspot.co.uk/2008/03/dark-side-of-victorian-hair.html), which also happens to have one of my favourite hair-related poems at the end of it ;)

ETA: Actually, because I'm a little strange that poem is also a source of 'hairspiration' for me, so it kind of fits with the theme of the thread!

Becky, so true! And I think that's why I liked it.

Anyone who wants to see beautiful paintings of long-haired maidens, nymphs and mermaids should definitely check out more of JW Waterhouse's work. He seemingly had a bit of an... ahem, obsession with painting women with long hair.

Interesting, I did not know about that... I actually thought that the picture was of a couple flirting playfully xD

I do, sometimes real life photos, others are paintings (like the stuff from the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood as someone else already mentioned.) They help me stay on track and resist the urge to chop. In the same folder I keep a few images of bobs and pixies so I can see the difference side by side, just as a reminder. It's worked so far. Before I reach for the scissors, I check that "Hairspiration" folder to see what I'm giving up first.

Here is the photo that inspired me to start this thread. Its very close to my own current colour (minus the bleached then hennaed streaks I have of course), and is my goal length and approximate style when I get there.

I have started an album on here for other photos that inspire me, there are 2 other wigs in there currently, one shorter (next growth goal ;) ) and one around knee (a goal I'm thinking about very-longterm, if it looks like I could go that long). I'm hoping to find some 'real-life' photos to add though, it still feels a little odd to me to want hair like a wig!! ;)

I have a few pictures of hairstyles with bangs that I've saved to my computer, for instance Princess Kate and Keira Knightley. If I ever feel like I'm not styling my bangs/fringe the way I would like, I try to find inspiration and ideas from these pictures. The internet has a never-ending supply!

We really need a 'like' button on here! I love that the middle lady is wearing a train so that her hair doesn't lie directly on the ground!
