Don't panic! I just dyed two little curls at the back =] just because A) I want to monitor hair growth and a demarcation line makes it easier and B) I am not prepared to damage my hair or deal with the upkeep of a whole head dye, and I don't really like highlights soo... two little curls it was!

I used this pre-lightener, which I got free off Freecycle (thanks to the lovely lady who offered it!)

After washing it out:

And dry! It still curls normally, and doesn't feel dry/straw like. It just feels like my hair, just a different colour.

I looooooooooooooove it. I kind of wish I could do my whole hair or more of it, but I know I'll regret it so I shall let the temptation pass!

That is super cutsie! It's a nice contrast with your dark hair. (I don't think it would look as good if you did your whole head. The stark contrast between the light and the dark is what makes it stand out.) Very good idea to use a demarcation line! You are a smarty-pants!

I know what you mean about wanting to see it grow. I love when I have to touch up my roots (henna) because I know my hair is growing. Now if it would actually look longer...LOL

Yes, I second: "don't do your whole head". There'll be a line of demarcation in no time, especially since the difference between the blond and the black is so major. You'll have roots showing in a week.

Hee hee! Looks cute! I have considered doing this many times, since it feels like it takes foreeeeever for curly hair to grow out!

I had a similar color (ashy though) and let me tell you, it was a nightmare! it looked amazing on me though, but the chemical damage I had was just NOT worth it my hair started to break off. I did bleach it 9 times though (and I can't believe it survived!).

That said I SOooo want to bleach and henna a small section on the hair. I can't help it, I love how it looks but my hair is way too dark and it takes a lot to bleach it (really coarse too).

Yay!! Beautiful and fun!
I plan to do this when my hair is a bit longer.
Just a curl or two in the back. Lighten it and then put some bright red on it! Or turquoise. Or whatever other bright colour. Fun and safe! :)

Cool! It looks very interesting and pretty next to your natural color. And you're right, a line of demarcation is a great way to measure growth -the first time I tried to grow out virgin hair, I kept an eye on my line of demarcation and on how quickly my fringe got to virgin again.

Love Love Love! I've always admired your curls and this just adds to it!

I too lighten streaks into my hair (I then henna over them though ;) ) and I love the contrast between the lighter and darker hair. I position my streaks an inch below my parting so that they are nice and visable (I want the visual effect) but the grow-out is disguised ;) Maybe something to think about if you do decide to do more in the future ;)

Looks gorgeous either way!

So cute! A nice way of doing something with your hair, without really damaging it. :) Your curls are amazing btw!

That is really cute! I tend to allow myself to do whatever I want with my bangs, that way I can damage them and not the rest of my hair and not feel bad.

That's the thing, dye damage, especially if you have to bleach, is cumulative, it gets worse each time you dye, which is why I switched from conventional hair color to henna, but that's also a comittment. :-).
