I've sifted through threads and such to find more male photos, (for support reasons and comparisons) and there is not a lot of images for us guys. C'mon guys.. don't be too damn shy or phobic to show these ladies your hair! LHC is obviously about diversity, compassion for the Mane, and most of all supportive!

I wake up everyday in this world of ours looking in the mirror wondering why we were made in such ways only for us to change it over and over and let the media and society deem whats worthy to be "popular" or even label how the human should look. I'm very biased against these actions against our society but somewhere... somehow there are individuals who rise above or even lurk around with their true given look as we were intended.

I'm proud of my passion to grow my hair out and I want to see more like myself on here. So GET TO IT MEN.. lets show'em that the guys can do it!

Not a guy,but there are more men posting pics of their hair on LHC than you would think...It's just hard to tell from the back of their heads... A picture of hair doesn't tell you much about the poster's gender :D

Anyway, good idea for a supportive thread for men with long hair :)

And here I was trying to add pirates and aphros to my siggy. LOL Good thing I did not put Mr.T smiley:mrt: on my siggy, I wouldn't want people to think i'm in love with him, but he had a show when I was a little boy. hahaha

my son is growing out his hair(his dad had a fit) and I must say he looks good both with short hair and long! His Nan asked how he was going to wear it and we both said"Queue is probably him!" LOL I must say I am surprised at how it has changed since it has gotten long enough for him to pull back-lighter in colour and SOFTER!

Actually, I find the men of the board more willing to show their faces.
Look on any Bay Area meet report for Ed, sometimes Trolleypup, Bill, Gumball, Pierre (who came out from NC), Dave Decker (came from Florida...actually we will meet around his visits, such a rock star he is) and more.
BeatnikGuy has photos, too.

Who else?

There are quite a few pictures of men on this board, but it may not be apparent from a photo of the back of the head that the person is a man.

I like the stealthiness. We're here, but we're well-camouflaged. :D

Great tread! :D

My dear boyfriend grew his hair to BSL last year, now it's about SL-APL. I know it's not long by LHC standards, but I thought I'd share my love anyway. :) I cut it for him from time to time, then he lets it grow for 6 months or longer. I adore his hair! He looks really good with short hair too, but there's something so darn attractive about his longer hair.

I cheer all of you LHC guys on and I think it would be splendid to see your pictures more!

I feel the same way every day when I contemplate wheter I should dress sexy, put on makeup and become thin just so society (or men) would find me attractive and support the fact that I am "taking care of myself" (like no makeup, sexy clothes and thin body would mean I take care of myself) so I can support your cause.

That would be cool.

Just to re-clarify BSL= Blades of Shoulders when it is used on men. I could go with Nipple length, but that might be uncomfortable to some people, but usually on a men's long hair board it would be "Nipple Length", Belt length instead of hip length. etc. But you probably already knew that. :) Thanks for your support, and I hope you'll stick around. :blossom:

Man... You guys all have such awesome hair. I can't wait until mine goes down past my shoulders. I feel like I've been stuck at CBL forever (the front of my hair just reaches to my mouth and it seriously feels like it hasn't grown at all in a month).

Well I already posted these pictures in my own thread a while ago but I'll post them here too. These are from a show I performed at last month. I normally wear my hair more flat and wavy but decided to go with a fro style for the show. It was a lot of fun and really made me stand out!

Oh thank you so much, spirals! It's kind of saddens me that it's the type that shrinks a lot (because i love to feel my hair, especially when wet and it doesn't have as much shrinking) :D
But I guess I'm used to it by now :)

I'm not a big picture-taker, but as Truepeacenik said, you can find pictures of me in the meet board. My latest meet was a mini-meet in Charlotte during the DNC.

Calling a male "yoni" sounds funny to me, but I guess it means something completely different in Hebrew than it does in Hindi.

February 2013. Flexi-8. Think I'm going to wear my hair like this with semi-formal in a few months. My hair's naturally quite straight with a few waves where it conforms to my body shape (e.g. shoulders) but I braid before sleeping.

Your curls! They remind me of hubby's curls when I met him. (Seriously, if his voice, amazing looks and great personality had not sealed the deal, his waist long curls sure did.) Sadly he wants to climb the corporate latter and he's started to thin so he's been keeping his hair short for years. He's too lazy to do some of the remedies that have been posted for hair loss so he's going to go bald this summer. :(

I'll just have to oggle your hair then. Oh, that lovely shade too! Where's Gru?I need to oggle her lovely red curls too. GRU!!! -scampers off-

Not a man but married to a longhair.

DH is about midback, dark gold thick fine wurls (he's about 2c-3a/F-M, ii-iii) which I help him take care of. He also has a full beard (pics in my album) I have to admit getting inspired for him by all of you longhaired guys here!

I didn't used to be a fan of long haired men, but am now. :) DH claims it is an automatic message that he is a nonconformist, what used to be called a 'freak flag' where i come from. :) We are going to see if we can braid it more often once he changes jobs, since he is a teacher and needs to have kids used to a braid from the beginning so that his hair does not become the focus of his lesson.

My DH uses leave-in and CO washing and a detangling spray (with princesses on it; it is aimed at little girls).

Man, Yoni, that is an INSANE amount of hair! You seem to manage it well, though, it looks good. :)

Jextxadore, may I ask what kind of flexi-8 you have (design and size)? Your hair seems to be of similar texture/thickness to mine, and I'm not sure what size to choose if I end up getting one - and I like the design you have. :o

Seriously envious of all you guys on your stunning locks! Either for length, colour, both, or just cos long hair on guys is gooooood! I do with my DBF would grow his, he'd suit it, but wouldn't cope well with the akward stages.

Neodrache, I think you look like a Bond or Die Hard villain or an evil henchman. And that's a compliment! :)

And I don't want to leave any of the other gents here uncomplimented. There's not a single male hair picture in this thread that I haven't loved. I should have you guys talk some sense into my SO who regularly threatens to cut off all his BSL hair! He already chopped his braided goatee into a 1 cm long patch last week.

He cut it to above his ears when we moved, and now he's back down to about shoulder after a few heavy trims. The job he has now doesn't care if it's long so he's started growing it again.

I'm of the generation brought up to believe that long hair for a man was when it covered his ears or even worse, reached his collar - as my husband wore his hair back in the early 1970's. I don't mind long hair on a man if it's kept neat and tidy; neatly trimmed at the ends (no split ends please) and if in a professional office-type environment tied back neatly in a ponytail.

Are your requirements for women any different? Sorry. I guess I'm not understanding why it's necessary to make that a male specific requirement.

spirals
March 4th, 2013, 02:17 PM
I think she's just specifying a standard for men because you see ratty ends more often on male longhairs. Well, I do. Maybe that's because our culture tends to discourage men from obtaining information about taking care of long hair. I see women with ratty ends, but a larger percentage of them are on long-haired men in my neck of the woods. It makes me sad.

Hahaha well, I would allow petting, but I will mention it is going through its own issue.

I am getting bad hair breakage and experiencing dry, flake scalp. This message board is helping me tons with information so the issue should be dealt with soon.

Thanks for the compliments! I feel bad that I don't take care of my hair as good as I should, but this forum will learn to change that.

I am loving this thread! Men with long hair are SO sexy! My husband used to have long hair, but cut it when a new (ultra-conservative) president was hired at the college where we work. Two of my closest (male) friends have hair to mid-back - I love it.

Well I already posted this in my own little thread but I figure I'll post it here so my fellow long haired men can enjoy it.

This is from a concert my band played two weeks ago (and by band I mean my friend Sam and I). For those who don't know we do acoustic guitar covers of video game songs (we call ourselves Super Guitar Bros). There were three other bands who played that night and they were all awesome but here's a video of our set. Music starts at about 3:20.

Enjoy!!

Oh, and that's me on the right. Sam's on the left.

I watched your performance SGBSteve! Fantastic and some of the songs were very moving indeed. My favourite was the Gerudo Valley tune. I used to ride around in Gerudo Valley on Epona because it was just the perfect song to gallop to. Very, very nice! ^.^

My way of contributing on top though. My husband finally got the ok from immigration to come up and is coming at the end of this month. He's let his hair grow for me as his mum usually cuts it for him but she is snowbirding with his dad and only arrived on the 5th of this month. It was already growing quite long, and so he decided to let it continue to grow for my sake until he gets up here and can cut it off. I've always wanted to see him with longer hair, to suit his viking build. Bring out the Scandinavian in him. It's already brushing past the collar of his shirts and flowing over his ears and in his eyes. I am really looking forward to be able to run my fingers through it. :D All I have to say, I'm a great supporter of long haired men, so all the power to you and don't be at all shy to post all your guy's pics. Hair is to be admired and adored I says!:o

You guys have great hair!
Stupid question, but...

Do you use shampoo engineered towards men?
Do you use women's shampoo and products?

Is there a difference?
I feel like there might be, since most men don't care much about their hair.
But, they might be the same thing, but the feminine versions smell more flowery.

I could answer for my boyfriend. He won't use mens shampoo for various reasons nor would I use anything gender specific on purpose since we all have the same hair. He doesn't even think about the smell unless it's gross like hospital or too pungent, guess he is more than happy to smell like roses. He mostly uses the Garnier Pure clean shampoo and conditioner but not the 2 in 1. I will try to get a shot of his hair and post it sometime soon.

The whole "Woman's brand but for men" thing kinda makes me mentally gag. I'm still waiting to see if they make Secret deodorant for men.

That being said I use whatever I want. I had a collection of like 50+ products a few years ago. I'm going to be restarting it.
I'll probably lean towards lavenders or purple stuff but for the most part I'll be going for smoothing or damage types but without the heavy cones. I haven't done a 30 minute sit in the tub with a bag on my head under a shower cap thing for like 5 years. I miss it.

I'd rather smell like flowers or apples than something too fake or cologne like.

If the guys don't want to smell flowery, there's always Dr. Bronner's magic soap. Some scents are gender-neutral, like almond or citrus. Of course, you have to do some kind of acidic rinse after. But hey, it's fair trade, organic, vegan, and it's fun to read the bottle!

In our family we call it the George hair because we got it from my grandfather. My aunts cut theirs short because they couldn't deal with it. My routine is to wash with castile soap whenever my scalp is dirty or itchy, or when my hair has gone enough days to lose moisture. I don't like acv, so I make an acidic rinse with marshmallow root for slip. I think I will start adding nettles in again. I need a new detangler for summer; the humidity makes it like velcro! And I'm at waist, so it tangles if I look at it. For now I like almond and jojoba oil together, or grapeseed oil for general use and coconut or pre-wash soaks. I would call our hair wavy curls or curly waves; it defies categorization.

Hey, gents, I've got a question! :)

I happened to pay attention to the "men's section" of the hair dye aisle for once while trying to kill some time in a drug store, and noticed a sort of reluctance towards calling any of the colors blonde. It seemed as though the lightest any of the brands wanted to go was light brown. There was one that went as far as dark blonde (gasp!) but even then, it was labeled "Dark blonde/Light brown" (This one (http://www.justformen.com/products/autostop/?shade=dark-blond), to be precise).

I've also noticed that blonde, or at least very light blonde men seem to be kind of a rarity in television/movies, unless they're a villain, or it's in some historical and/or fantasy setting. The only blonde celebrities that I can think of who don't entirely fit either category are Gordon Ramsey and Owen Wilson, but I could be missing others.

What I'm wondering then, is if there's any sort of "male stigma" against blonde hair? Is it seen as feminine/less masculine, or something? Most of the blonde men I know probably couldn't give a crap how their sexuality is seen, so my guess would be that I'm just over-analyzing. :p But in observation of these phenomena, I figured I'd bring the question here. So, what do y'all think?

Hmm, I wouldn't consider Boromir to be blonde, perhaps not even Faramir either. I had thought of the Malfoys and Silas (Da Vinci Code). Maybe I'm too far gone from pop culture, but besides your examples, I just couldn't think of many blonde male protagonists.

I like this thread - it's good to see men with well kept, healthy long hair when I live in an area that's dominated by the chav cut (buzzed sides with patterns in and spiked on top to cause maximum damage in a fight if needed).

I see these are advertised to "cover the grey". I suspect that really blond hair doesn't show up the grey in the same way darker hair does.

February 2013. Flexi-8. Think I'm going to wear my hair like this with semi-formal in a few months. My hair's naturally quite straight with a few waves where it conforms to my body shape (e.g. shoulders) but I braid before sleeping.
Love it!:thud:

My hair's about halfway between shoulder length and shoulder blade, aiming for mid-back. Been coming back to this thread and your photo above for extra motivation to keep growing it out. Just the simplicity of the Flexi-8, keeping the hair out of the face and peripheral vision, while leaving it reasonably loose and comfy in the back... Can't wait!:rockerdud

Posted it in the milestone thread as well but oh well :)
Finally managed to do a braid without putting it in a ponytail before, had to stop in the middle so it turned to some sort of a segmented braid :D

It looks cool. In high school I had waist-length and used to make a braid with one fat section and two skinny ones.

yoni, not trying to offend you, but that braid is the weirdest one I've seen in my life :). It looks kinda twisted. Is it the classic 3 strand braid or some other? (I can't really see it from the image)

Tori, being that I am ex-military, lived most my life to the conformity of society's standards, and basically walked this earth without my own identity, I could never look back with finding my identity as a man with my hair growing. I feel more empowerment from my hair than I do anything else. When I think of Sampson's story of strength, I feel I'm literally on the same page. I have more self-esteem with long hair and more so, I feel utmost confidence. Pride. Plain and simple. I have the testosterone of a Viking God and the compassion of a nurturing mother, (probably why I'm a damn good nurse) and all because I have found myself, believe it or not, through my hair...

Oh no, there is the beard! *swoons*

I just noticed my DBF's hair is soon reaching waist length. He likes it when I brush it gently (I bought him a tangle teezer so he wouldn't rip one of those plastic nubby brushes through his hair). He had a buzz cut in 2008 or 2009 and had only let me cut about one inch of it off in March of last year, that's all it's ever been cut since he started growing. The ends are full of split ends, but he hasn't yet let me S&D his hair, keeps saying it would take forever to do so, but it would make a big difference it the ease of detangling. He is WO. I hope he won't cut it all off one day! I would be devastated! I know it's his hair and he can do anything he wants with it but he looks so much better with it than without. I would sneak a picture to you guys, but I don't know if I dare. :)

That's beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. I love the relation to Samson, too. I've found a lot of confidence from my hair as well, so I get it. It's hard to explain to most people why my hair is so important to me, and you said it beautifully.
