View Full Version : Best buns for serious taper

I have waist length medium thickness straight hair, and I'm delighted with the length, and it doesn't even look that tapered down. However, when I do a cinabun my first go around is almost three times as thick as my second, and I only go around twice. I'm hoping the thickness will continue to move down, but I have been here for 5 years now using the LHC magic and it's going to be a while, if it ever happens.

So my question is, what are the best looking buns for those of us with serious taper? Buns that mask serious taper, buns where it's irrelevant, buns that look pretty despite serious taper. My cinnabun is "acceptable" but it's nothing to write home about.

Braided buns seem to be the worst, no matter how I do it (other than dutch braid center with the rest pinned on either side) I end up with a serious lump in the very center of the bun that doesn't even look braided, and lots of ends sticking out of the last 3rd of the bun. It's truly a mess, like I wouldn't go further than my backyard with such a bun. Rope braid buns, same problem. And this is true whether I pony and then braid, or not - although if I pony first it's much much worse. That seems to cause the center of the braid to stick straight out of my head for 2 inches, and what is left over to braid isn't enough to make that a good thing.

My best buns for taper are
Lazy wrap - and topographically identical buns that I can't remember the names of - is the articles section unavailable at this point? I can't find it.

What these two have in common is that the hair closest to your head forms the outside rim of the bun, so my thickest hair is most visable. But I'm open to any kind of bun that plays well with taper. Could there even be buns that look better with taper?

I appreciate any help, and imagine others have the same problem. Thanks!

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=110495 I don't know if you saw this thread that was just made the other day, but I learned a few new ones from the thread..

I have thin ends and basically have accepted the only buns I get are a braided bun, LWB, and a cinnabun. Maybe when my hair is longer I will be able to do more. I am envious of the big buns though lol. Im not sure that my hair will ever be able to produce a nice one.

Here's the reply for best buns to hide taper I gave to ~BoHemiAngel~ in her recent thread 'Best hairstyles for people with fairytale hemlines?' (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=110495&p=2384805#post2384805).

My hair is at tailbone length, and my taper starts at about waist. It'll be about two years before it grows out, assuming I don't want to lose any length by trimming too drastically. I just wear updos all the time so that people don't notice my thin ends. The outer coils of my buns are ridiculously skinny compared to the inner coils, but I don't let this bother me too much. I'm comforted by the fact that a lot of LHC members who have spectacular hair (and no noticeable taper) also have thinner outer coils.

Buns that would hide your ends better than a cinnabun include:

No I did not see her thread, but I can see that she's asking the same question I am. Thank you, I'll follow her thread.

I second the equilibrium bun if you have the length. This <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-PcfdvgH-0> is also nice if you have the length for it.
