I posted this in the henna sub but I'm so happy I wanted to share here too.

I managed to get a semi permanent dye over my henna mistake and get my hair pretty close to my natural shade (a tad warmer but much better). The henna shade made me look deathly ill.

Here are some before and afters:

I'm looking forward to growing my virgin hair out from here on out and not having to constantly worry about an extremely noticeable demarcation line. :)

I managed to create a pretty decent updo today, a simple tucked French braid.

The darker strands it's my natural colour and the red stuff it's of course henna :) I never get even colour in all of my hair and it washes out in funny ways. But I like it :)

Stray_mind I love your hair texture. Keep on with the progress! Your hair seems pretty wavy I think you may be more than a 2a/2b, maybe a 2c? I also love the reverse omvre.

I was happy how my curls turned out today so I thought of posting here.

Wow, such lovely curls!

My hair is styled with aloe vera gel in this pic, so i am not sure about my texture. My hair strands are quite non uniform. The hair at the back is much straighter than at the sides. I am playing it safe and choosing 2a/2b type for now. :)

Thank you! :)
Do you sleep on your back? It's common for the curls to flatten depending on your sleep position. But it's true that styling methods can make typing your hair harder. Well, I think it's safe to call it 2a/2b

Great job MoonRabbit :)

Good job MoonRabbit! My fiance has an undercut as well and loves it. He has thick hair and it brushes out way better now, especially since the curliest/coarsest section is the one that's shaved off :) I love undercuts but could never pull it off with my hair type.

Same. I swear, I shaved off so much hair and he still has thicker hair than me. Lucky jerk.

That looks great

Nope, that picture was yesterday.

And yes, about a year ago. Part of it is probably an inconsistency in head/neck position too, but you're right. My hair has grown...a LOT. And since curly-girl taught me how to care for it, breakage is not a major factor.

The last few days I've messed around with some half backs. Haven't worn them in public yet because honestly I'm having some minor dandruff issues which make me not want to show too much parted scalp.

Anyway... for the pics!

This is inspired by elven and viking hair. It's held entirely held by friciton, with no ties or pins anywhere. I'm not sure if it'd last a whole day, I'd need to experiment.

https://scontent-mia3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/fr/cp0/e15/q65/70534476_2904204809596252_3031225834040983552_o.jp g?_nc_cat=106&efg=eyJpIjoidCJ9&_nc_oc=AQke84U21aZUX9UPwoUm89OcjQ46yxCsXzb-MB1AX9XC3RNSmzo70AyAFyymx2TnUuq78-P_6I-r0uQ6wgVStwps&_nc_ht=scontent-mia3-1.xx&oh=8b3992116a1abf330e630a743c0b0102&oe=5DF4FDE8

The tips reach the bottom of the frame but you can't even see the hairs.

I think your hair has a special charm to it just the way it is.

So I made second attempt at straw curls (glutton for punishment, I know) they didn't turn out very well but at least my hair was really big the rest of the week and buns were super easy!

elise.autumn I really like that elvish/viking style, how did you connect the braids? Is it a regular knot with all of them?

It's sort of a figure 8 knot. A regular knot but twisted once extra. I think that helps it stay better. And yep it was a single knot with the 4 smaller rope braids. It was actually simple to do, minus the time to make the braids .

gothicshollow Welcome! And you have really pretty hair.

There isn't too much of my hair in these photos because it's covered by a silk scarf, but I've been experimenting with wrapping buns in silk scarves I have lying around since last night...
and I was quite pleased with how colourful and fun this turned out!

I am interested in getting into scarf wrapping! I have a decently large scarf collection (about half of them are smooth enough for hair?) but it's too hot to wear the outfits they normally go with half of the year. I can't seem to find a master thread about wrapping... lots of little ones asking for help on how to get scarves to stay while sleeping, though.

Did a pair of braids, one for each side, and left the center section loose. I then gathered the center into a simple ponytail to contain it. Trying to avoid white-boy cornrows.

And ended up with a (hopefully) sophisticated take on a mohawk!

Was actually inspired by Miss Bailee.

Maybe we should start a master thread? I agree, we have a ton of smaller threads that I'm not sure how I would even ask a mod to combine. Or, if you can figure out which to combine and which should be the main thread, you can flag them for a mod to combine into a master thread. It was too much for me to figure out. I'd join it, though! I have a ton of scarves to go with pretty much all my clothes, and most of them are originally intended for wrapping hair.

I took pics of my hubby's hair yesterday. He's on a long hair journey. He's been growing his hair out for a year now from a buzz cut. He's had waist long hair in the past. That was 10 years ago. I've noticed his hair is MUCH curlier this time around! It was just wavy in the past. He has some lovely little ringlets now :)

Yesterday I found the "hairstyle of the month" part of the forum for the first time I think! I don't know how I missed it. Buns are not my favorite thing on myself, so I'm loving all the different styles over there and people's pictures. Here is my try at Amish braids. It's secure, comfortable, and fancy, the trifecta! I think next time I'd braid closer to the sides of my head so the hairstyle is more spread out not gathered in the back.

It's hard to see from that photo, but I think I am about halfway between hip and BCL. I'm a high-hipped abomination. I landed at solid hip after my last big chop. :)

Whew, I've been busy and totally fell behind on this thread. Gorgeous hair, everyone!

Here's a fun one I took. Day five or six hair usually has been in a bun all day every day, and my ends start to do their own thing. It's like it has a life of its own - and my hair is fairly straight normally.

Ok, I just learned how much lighting can make a difference. Yesterday I did a water-only wash as part of a scalp experiment. My lengths did not feel great since they still felt really dirty and stringy. My hair felt meh, and it didn't look its best, though my hair is so straight that it doesn't change its look very much TBH.

Well, I did some climbing training at home and recorded videos of the training. When I was watching the videos I realized my hair looked very... fabulous? *Almost* like those shiny sleek hair commercials or YT videos! Guess the lighting in the training area is very artificial in a good way. :) Here's a still from one of the videos:

https://i.imgur.com/4dXqQUU.png?1

And the videos make it look more appealing, with the rippling and shining as my hair moved. If my ganky hair could have that effect, no wonder they can get hair to look SO good in commercials and professional photos!

Thank you Zesty  I will probably grow to FTL, but I'll maintain at Classic for some time first, to get rid of the remaining dye at least. I'm quite happy now that most of my layers have disappeared, but still need some time to have a totally straight hemline. I guess I'll be Classic by late 2020, so I will be maintaining since then.

its been a minute since I have shared a photo of my hair so here goes one from this morning. For past some months was just patiently waiting to grow back my most recent trim (~2") and not obsessing and getting too frustrated over losing what seemed like critical length lol. Not quite there yet but I finally feel back in similar unstretched length territory as I did prior to the trim.

Also I have been wearing my hair down more as a means to just enjoy the current length. Most LHC veterans keep advising to enjoy each stage. Well that was harder said than done but I finally gave in when I was faced with a set back.

Yes, I'm nearly there - and going for it! My hubby isn't interested in hair, and he never touches mine.

Here is my natural hair texture - the lower half of my hair no longer has waviness, presumably due to dye damage as I don't use heat on my hair. So now you see why I prefer to have braid waves! The wavy hair is my virgin 2b hair and texture and it is also much thicker than my dyed hair below it. I would so love for all my hair to regain its waviness!

I'm so sorry, I don't know how I missed your comment! Sleek would be nice, but it seems as though all of my baby hairs have an untamable spirit so I'm always sporting a not-so-cute halo effect :wannabe: It's taken me forever, but I think I'm finally starting to accept that my bun will never be as big as I want it to be and that I can't change my hair texture. Hopefully one day I can reach full acceptance like you. And thank you so much, you're too kind! You're compliment put a silver lining in my cloud of a rough morning :blossom:

So thick! Like the peekaboo accent braid. <3

Thank you :o That little one is always there, sometimes it's visible and sometimes not lol

So thick and pretty!

Thank you Ylva! Your hair is super beautiful and looks great, but I know how the dyed part always is worst, despite it can look good we "feel it" :p It'll grow, eventually!

Milady, I am pretty sure I have said this before but your braids are dream braids.

Thank you lots :grouphug: And I agree with the others, your defined curls are to die for no matter the lenght!!!

Mmm, I still think that medium/thin heads of hair are way more elegant, and big buns carry other problems: I can't achieve hairstyles that others are able to do with shorter lenghts, and the weight can be too much if I'm already with a headache :( Also, I like much more certain hairstyles with thin hair, like spacebuns for example (I look like Minnie Mouse) And don't talk to me about halos lol, mine is always there doesn't matter what I do, so I accept it :rollin: I hope you'll day get better! :flower:

Milady, I hope your stress goes away - in the meantime we get to see such a lovely braid!

Sarahlabyrinth your hair is a dream :o i suffer the same thing from dyes, being the non dyed part way curlier. It looks ok, but I miss the bouncing locks I had before. Are you planning to hit the floor?

About the stress issues: I'm having the first of 3 exams in 10 days, if I pass they 3 I'll achieve a good job forever for the Government. If I pass the 1st, I can go to the next one and so on. The second one will be before Christmas, and the 3rd one by spring... It is crazy, esp because I'm also working a full time job so I pass minimum 12h/day working or studing, plus 2h/day moving in the underground and so; I've been like this so many months and the pressure is heavy. I still scratch some time to rest, but it's always a minimum. I miss participating more but lately I'm better just reading most days, if I can. It all will pass, now I just want time to fly to have it behind, passing the tests or not! :p

Sarah, I didn't really notice the different textures that much until you mentioned it.

Then I looked at my own hair and sure enough - same goes for me. I only colored my hair darker and with a volume 10 developer and it still managed to completely wreck my hair. I never noticed because I never had virgin growth to compare it to of my own until a couple years ago.

I feel duped by my own self.

Haha, +1 when I stopped dying and discovered an entire new head of hair started growing in. Boy was I confused  But it sure has encouraged me to stay away from chemical dyes for good.

At the moment I'm thinking of reaching ankle and maintaining there. For a while, anyway. Maybe at some point I will change my mind and head to floor length. After all, my original goal here was waist, so I do have a habit of wanting my hair longer... :p

I was watching something a few weeks ago and this video was in my recommended, so I watched it (and bought the denman brush) and it seriously changed my whole routine. And it's much easier than what I've done in the past or was doing. Like washing/styling upside down then flipping... plopping...diffusing. I'm getting more volume and individual curls with this than with any of the classic curly girl advice. Just thought I'd share. :)

Also there was an owl hooting in the woods while I took these pictures. :)

Thanks for the encouragement Milady! I'll have to try out a few more styles instead of just doing a Celtic knot every day and see if that variation helps. My day got a teeny bit better; I didn't do very well on a recent exam, but I did very well in another class so I guess it evened out? I'm sorry to hear about your stress levels though; my schedule certainly isn't that rough, but I can kind of relate with the exams. Fingers crossed you pass with flying colors!

Thank you!! First i flipped my hair upside down and did a french braid up the back of my head. When i got to the top of my head i made a ponytail, and then i braided the ponytail too. I wrapped the braided ponytail into a bun and secured it with a scrunchie.
