Isn't it though, Beeboo123? My hair could be almost anyone's, but you know a Crystawni photo in a fraction of a second because of that unique color mix! ;)

Lovely hair, everyone, and yamsha23, thanks for the Elvish compliment. I wasn't really shooting for it (I'm too dark-haired to be Galadriel and too old to pull off Arwen any more! ), but now that I think about it, it looks like one of the styles Eowyn wore at one point in LotR (even though she's human, not Elvish).

So, I took an official "hair typing" photo today after washing (after air drying for about 6 hours). I didn't brush while wet or before this photo - it's crazy to me how wavy it looks. I've brushed it since and it looks a lot straighter now.

I added some historical photos to my album...and of course they're all jumbled up. I want to put these two here for a look at my growth rate.

My "messy" hair! My waves are never "defined" enough, so my brain just yells "IT'S A MESS BRUSH IT", but I'm determined to not do that this time! I want to see what would happen if I keep on this track, and let it be "messy" (an aesthetic I tend to like on others anyway!) and see if anything forms up.

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=29287&d=1511684626

I tried super hard to not touch it, but my husband did and was like :suspect::crazyq: when I yelled "NO TOUCHY" at him lol. In his defense he was aiming for my back, and the way I was sitting meant my hair was reaching to BSL (I like to feeeeeeeeel it lol).

What I did was: clarify my hair and then use my husband's surprisingly sulfate and silicone free shampoo and conditioner (for his beard lmao), and my hair oil, and all washing/rinsing/drying was done with scrunching instead of whatever I'd usually do. I couldn't wait to get my own stuff, and his was RIGHT THERE! Lmao poor guy.

To me, from my perspective inside my hair (it's falling in my face since I'm not tucking it behind my ears for once) is much much wavier than I can capture in a photo, which is a little disappointing but still nice either way. I'm the one that's gotta like it, right? And I'm super happy because I feel like model or something with my beachy mermaid waves.

lithostoic, those pink tips look amazing in your light hair!

I recently started doing coconut oil (or olive) pre-washes again. It's easier now that my hair is kind of annoying when down, since I can just oil in the morning and wash it out in the evening as opposed to having to sleep with oiled hair (I'm worried about breakouts). Plus the oiled braid looks great.

One benefit I noticed is that it really makes my curls springier and also gives them some extra hold!

I agree! At least for now LOL. My hair actually has looked a lot like tlatzoteotl's when it was longer, so I'm thinking it may wave up more as I go about my new life as a silicone free wavy girl. I think it's interesting that already there's a noticeable difference with such a little change. My waves are even still around a little today, after sleeping on them! Not as clear as that, especially in the back, but there! Silicones aren't my friends anymore it seems :( Or at least not as many as I was using! Shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in all had them, and I think maaaaybe a light leave-in serum with a water-soluble cone would be totally fine.

Ryn127 fantastic hair really love. You're gorgeous too! and nice pics like this in the forest!

Corvana I love your textured hair! they have a lot of body and volume and movement, beautiful! what a discovery! you will have to make your own experiments but for me, silicones or not makes no real difference to the texture, in fact I prefer silicones. Basically I see it as just a myth. But it may be so for my type and not for yours, who knows? For me it's only a matter of styling products and techniques. Here I think you owe the texture more to the fact that you didn't brush than to the fact that you used no silicones. Anyway, congratulations, they're beautiful!

Lady Celestina what gorgeous curls, makes me want to go back to pre-wash oiling too. In fact last week I did oil the ends and put them all day in a braid like you said but it was only no more than 10 cm of it. Maybe, as I need to wash my hair now, I could do that and wash them tomorrow instead. Do you find the need to detangle the hair while oiling? because I lost a lot of hair in the past doing that and it was the reason why I discontinued it. Detangling with conditioner causes much less pulling and breakage, for me.

Saige wow it's like a silky waterfall, so beautiful, and the color! bow down really.....

Suze, since june, seriously? you straighties fill me with envy! anyway your hair is beautiful, I looked up your routine after your anniversary thread as I found them so healthy and vibrant, and shiny!... Never mind it's a very different type than mine, you inspired me about the monthly Lush gloss. Still pondering if I would have the discipline to follow through.

Yes, June. but June 2016 :eyebrows: And thank you so much. I do the glosses about every two months now. My scalp doesn't really like it but my hair does so we settled. I do the gloss with conditioner now instead of yoghurt (because I went vegan) and it is a lot quicker this way. I only get a slight hint of color, my roots never show or anything. Sorry for getting back at you this late but thought I should still reply. :)

Ah thank you!! I think it is a little bit a hair type thing, as yours is full curls and mine is "do I wanna be wavy or no? How about yes for a day and then sorta for another and then no until you wash again."

I see nothing wrong with cones in general, of course, and I've always liked them well enough! But since wavy or curly hair has been a literal lifelong dream of mine, I will do anything to coax them out more. I do also think that after awhile of good wavy care, they'll be more resilient and I'll probably experiment more with products here and there.

It's like I'm trying to coax a shy cat to trust me . Before I can pet it (or use silicones or comb it while dry in the case of my hair), I have to be calm and gentle and give it space (drop things that commonly cause waves/curls to be less amazing, treat my hair like wavy hair, etc). Then once I've gained its trust I can pet all I'd like, until it wants space again at least (or until I find stuff my waves don't respond as well to).

I could go silicone-free when I was shorter lengths up to BSL when it all started to change for me. I needed to use silicones at that point as nothing else would get the tangles out and I was getting major mechanical damage from just trying to comb it out after washing. So the silicones seemed like a more gentle option to me (and it was).

Thanks guys! You're too kind!

Curls, swirls and swishes! You all have beautiful LHC hair that any hair product company would love to hate (because, as we know, we don't need half of what they're selling to look this good).

Corvana, I know moisture is the curly go-to, but if you really want to reveal your texture mayhaps try a swim in the ocean (if one is near) or getting caught in the rain. Letting hair dry from dripping wet (absolutely no manipulation to ease up helmet-head--not even a head shake) really lets nature shine. If you're a wavy, you'll see those bumps even when your hair is saturated. But if neither is convenient at the moment, try shampoo-only and drip dry--the less product you add, the more your hair can tell you its story (frizz and all). Then you can play around with adding oils, lotions and stuff (to wet, damp or dry hair--it's all part of the tweakness).

Crystawni, that looks so summery and free! Beautiful :)

The last few pages--just gorgeous, all of you!

Oh wow, that is so pretty!

Crystawni, your hair is reaaally beautiful. I hope you don't get offended if I tell you your hair is a calico cat :kitten: (hey! there's only one cat gif? on LHC!?)

Your hair color is so special and unique!

Crystawni, your hair is so beautiful, the colors and the visual softness are amazing.

LadyCelestina, those curls are perfect! I always wanted that texture. :) Looks like oiling is agreeing with your hair.

:flowers: Thank you all for your comments! And yamsha, the calico cat reference is a new one for me, and me likey (and yes, we need moar cat gifs!)!

I really like your new wavey look.

:o Thank you! I love them so much.

Yeah I'm totally open to needing them later, or just being fine with them and going with them because they're easier.

The waves are definitely there, and much more wavy, when my hair is wet and if I let it just dry after swimming or something. It's always been that way, but until last week I never thought twice about it because whenever I'd brush it they'd be gone. So I figured they were just "fake" waves or something.

Fake waves! Bahahahaha! Oh, I'm hearing you! If you'd seen my ponytail pic I posted a few days ago where my hair's just pretty much straight with some flickiness towards the ends, you'd never know it forms sausage ringlets all the way down if I leave it totally alone. But most days, it's brushed silky straight with bumps. Cupping the dampened ends in my palm brings the coils back, but most additives just weigh things down. And I prefer to manage silky over beachy (too much frizz and knot-prone), even though I love the look of beachy (as long as it's not toooooooo stringy on me--thank you fine hair... pfft). Maybe you could try some spray gel? It's not heavy, and can be applied to hair without breaking up clumps when it's at its curliest to help with the hold. Or I sometimes combine it with a super-hold hairspray mist, but often end up brushing it out because I hate the feel of it. Also, plopping is your friend. :D

Yeah I've got a little list of leave in stuff to get for trying out! SM Curl Enhancing Smoothie, some kind of gel, maybe a serum of some kind. Right now I don't have any, and won't be able to get any until after the holidays!

And I tried plopping, but half my hair fell out of the microfiber towel because it's a little too short  And I could've forced it but that would've been doing the opposite of protecting the wave pattern, since i'd need to stretch it out lol. So I just scrunched my hair to damp because it was the best I could do!

I don't want my hair to look too piecey. My signature is just right, so if I could preserve that for longer than a day, I'm all in! Hopefully though when I can get some products I'll be able to manage either beachy and piecey or still wavy but silky like in your signature. I love both versions so much!

And yeah, my hair is usually just "mostly straight with flicky ends", and when it was longer there'd be the occasional batch of S waves in the back that I'd never see if I didn't brush my hair a whole ton or it was humid or something.

Just beautiful Saige!

Love your hair Reyn, and also you dress. Very elven-like.

LadyCelestina, you are blessed with very pretty curls! Wow!
Thank you! :flower:

Lady Celestina what gorgeous curls, makes me want to go back to pre-wash oiling too. In fact last week I did oil the ends and put them all day in a braid like you said but it was only no more than 10 cm of it. Maybe, as I need to wash my hair now, I could do that and wash them tomorrow instead. Do you find the need to detangle the hair while oiling? because I lost a lot of hair in the past doing that and it was the reason why I discontinued it. Detangling with conditioner causes much less pulling and breakage, for me.

Thanks! No, I don't detangle my hair before oiling, I just smooth each curl with a bit of oil, or if I'm particularly lazy I just braid my hair and work some oil into each section from about ears down. Maybe I'm not getting 100% coverage from that, but since I'm seeing some results I think I'm good :)

Crystawni, your hair is so beautiful, the colors and the visual softness are amazing.

Thanks a lot :flower: Sometimes it's a hassle, but it has it's good days lol ... And yes it is, which I'm actually quite surpris about.... since I remember my hair feeling a bit dry after pre-oiling, when I some time ago. Hair apparently changes too.

Oh nooooooo I'll probably be doing it forever then  It just slipping out is totally a thing when it's all clean, but today was suuuper dirty hair (with extra added oils!) so it was "stickier". I did end up redoing it later because that bit kept wriggling out and tickling me, and it was totally crooked LOL

And thanks! I'm 100% sure now that I'll end up with a huge pile of flexis. They're so nice!! Much heavier than I expected, so not good for migraine days, but they're great for other days!

It should be alright! The small is a size too small for a ponytail for me, and since my hair is still short there's no taper going on and it's still a tight fit for my braids. I think it's probably right about exactly the 3.25" that the site says is good for the small. At least that's how it feels!

And I've got the celtic knot in gold! I think I'll probably use that one tomorrow hehehe

What a nice braid, it's a great idea to use the flexi because it completely minimizes any impression of a taper. Now I couldn't use it because I do have taper (my hair in front is shorter than in the back). Beautiful!

I was messing around with the camera this afternoon and got these, which I thought showed my hair nicely. I am astonished at how silver it is! I noticed also that the hair seems more silvery, if that's the word, or paler, next to my face and I like that.

Gorgeous braid and flexi. What magic is keeping that flexi in place, mine would hang in there for about 3 seconds before slipping out!!! :)

Thank you!! I'm not totally sure, actually! I think maybe I have just enough hair for them to be snug? And they still slipped off after a few hours, so maybe they were slipping the whole time only really really slowly  I was surprised when I got them over how heavy they were, so I'm not surprised now when they slip out eventually.

I do need to go smaller with the flexis if I want something like a 1/3rd up or to pin back FF layers or something, because I've tried with these and they start to slip down immediately!

Genius! I know I'll need this later on! I have slippery hair days (not today apparently hehe), and I'm sure I'm a bit between flexi sizes anyway so the next one up may slip a lot more!

And thanks! Once I got my brain on the right track it wasn't too hard at all. They look more complicated than they are!

Corvana, I'm not sure that it would be the correct size for a signature - also it's not just one picture consisting of many photos joined together, it is only many photos uploaded one after the other next to each other (couldn't figure out how to do it the other way, so I doubt that it would work as a signature :) )

Speaking of thickness, my bun is so big???:confused:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=29400&d=1512612757

My rope braids fell out, because the flexis slip after a few hours, and I was like "meh I'll just bun and clip it". Then I was all "you know, I should take a picture of this because sometimes I want one to illustrate this kind of bun being held with a claw clip", and so I did... And... it's practically eating my head?? I wish it always looked so big! My avatar was due to a slowly unravelling bun, so it's a bit of a cheatsy-doodle!

It feels a lot smaller than it looks though, which is why it threw me off so much! Maybe it's the angle... hmmmmm...

I don't think so! I rarely take pictures of my cinnabuns because they're not so stable yet (but I'm about to post in mini milestones about finally getting to tuck all them ends hehehe), but in general they're about the same every time! I'll try again with cleaner hair, though, because maybe some was separating and I couldn't tell? Who knows! It looks nice, and frankly that's the important part

And thank you! I think they'll start shrinking down as I gain length, and then plateau and then get bigger again LOL.

Rinse-out oil has been what helps me keep static at bay in winter. I can't use oil in ANY other way, but somehow my hair can take a couple drops of it when the conditions turn super dry and static-y.

Recently I've decided to try somethiing new and make a bun. Of course, I started searching on the Internet, there is a lot of information there, but I wanted something special that can be made not only in daily life, but also for a particular case. And I was lucky to find a great article with a huge amount of examples https://therighthairstyles.com/15-most-delightful-prom-updos-for-long-hair-in-2014/. Frankly speaking, it took me a long time to create such a hairstyle and my friend helped me, but finally we made this great chingon bun

First time I try this kind of braid! Sorry for the fluffiness ^^'

These are both so pretty!!

The bun looks elegant and neat and the braid looks lovely and so romantic. :)

Judging also from other pictures you look more like a iii to me, although I have little familiarity with your texture.

I wish lol. Nope! It is on the high end of ii, though, at 9cm.

What a big head-eating bun! Are you sure you’re still a ii? It sure looks like a iii, maybe it has gotten thicker with time!

I check maybe... More than I should lol. But nope! I do think, though, that it could honestly just be partly the angle! I take my photos over my head, and that might cause a bit of distortion. Add to that how dark my hair is in the light I generally photograph in, and you've got a recipe for a sneaky big bun.

Today I've got two pictures, the bigger version of my new signature:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=29401&d=1512632530

It's so wavy I could cry. I clarified (I'd been co-washing the last week, but all I had were coney conditioners), then deep conditioned with SM manuka honey. Then I oiled and put in some curl cream (cantu coconut!), and then... I managed to not touch it for like three and a half hours. It was torture, and I'm debating getting a diffuser at some point

But unlike last time, where my hair was still a little damp, my hair is 100% dry here! :cheese::cheer::happydance:

And today's braid! I'm super enjoying this little "challenge" in the SL to APL thread :o

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=29402&d=1512676027

I only remember to do half-ups when my hair should be in full-ups only  BUT NOT TODAY! Muahaha.

Lovely, Amelia, Milady, Triumphator and Corvana :)!

Rinse-out oil has been what helps me keep static at bay in winter. I can't use oil in ANY other way, but somehow my hair can take a couple drops of it when the conditions turn super dry and static-y.

In my case it's static the whole year round, the woes of fine-textured hair in my case :( I use a bit of oil sometimes (for other purposes than static, though), but so far I prefer aloe vera gel as day-to-day use because it doesn't make my hair too oily, I can't add any oil to my roots, only to the ends/lower length...

I think, re-reading Amelia's post, it seems as though they found that article and recreated the bun in the photo, but didn't show their own version of it. "And I was lucky to find a great article with a huge amount of examples" is what leads me to that conclusion.

Heheheh I wonder if I can convince my husband... I've told him all I want for Christmas/my birthday (oh snap that's in 18 and 17 days respectively WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE) was the The Adventure Zone comic book (preorder), and a hairtoy (maaaayyybe a bit of a splurgy one like a TT or Ficcare). So to then add in "oh and I want a diffuser" But still... He knows my hair takes millennia to dry... and he would love it suuuuper long, and it would only take longer... :hmm::rollin:

My curl pattern is returning!!:joy: :joy: I had been pretty rough with it for a little while. Bleached the whole thing last year, and used heat multiple times this year without deep treatments/deep conditioning. The last time I used heat in Oct really did it in. My ends were deaad. I still need a trim, but I feel like the overall health of my hair is improving! I've been doing more protective styling, and deep treating twice a week. I've been using Doo Gro's Mega Thick Intense Repair Rebuilding Thickening Treatment, which I'm really crediting with the return of my curl pattern, and Shea Moisture's Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 Multi-benefit Masque which has been helping with the overall health/shine/moisture of my hair. I've also been enjoying some of Ogx's products. Namely their Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum, and the Coconut Miracle Oil Penetrating Oil.

Planning on doing an aphogee protein treatment soon, but I'm going to wait until I have someone to help me with that because it's such high protein I want to do it right.

Yay for curls returning!

You got such pretty hair, TheCurlyMermaid! I'm so happy for you that your hair is recovering, it looks great :o

I don't recall if I've ever posted anything in this thread, but I felt like I wanted to do it today :p
My hair type seems to have changed a bit since last time around I was at this length (almost APL), I was not able to tell that I was a 2a before I reached longer lengths and now my hair displays more obvious waves already at APL. I'm not sure what to think of it yet, but I suppose things like this happens. Could this be from just using a different type of shampoo?

Wow Decoy I really love the texture of your hair and color!

My hair is just past my collar bone and believe it or not this is the longest it's ever been. I've had chin length or a pixie my whole life all kinds of crazy colors and heat damage so last time I chopped it all off was just over a year ago and I decided I'm letting it grow this time and leaving products out. First pic is last october and second is last night just wanted to share my results and if anybody wants to give some comments or criticisms that would be cool :)
I had one haircut between these pics and it was to even out the mullet that grew out of that haircut lmao

(Clipped the images out just to save page space.)

Looks like you got some really good growth, especially given that you got a cut to even it out between the photos!

You have a really nice color, and the second photo looks good! I like the golden sheen your hair has. (I wish mine would do that, even though it'd clash with my skin tone like whoa! An auburn halo is the best I'm gonna get with the hair still more or less matching the rest of my coloring.)

Your ends look nice and healthy, too.

(Cute baby in the first photo, too! Don't know if that's your baby or a nibling or a friend's child, but a cutie, anyway.)

Thank you so much! I try to oil my ends a little bit every day to avoid needing trims since my hair is too short for s&d right now and thats my nephew Archer he's way cuter since he lost the umbilical cord lmao

Good work on the oiling!

In my experience, S&D starts to be workable around mid-back, give or take a little, because then you can (generally, I think it may depend on hair thickness and curl/wave pattern too) see all your ends. It's much easier when you can see what the heck you're doing!

Lovely, Milady! I've been wearing a rope-braided bun today as well :D (And blogging about rope-braids and uploading past rope-braid pics on Blogger - My perfectionism does love a theme xD)

Actually, I just came to upload a recent-ish rope-braided bun with paranda:

It makes me so happy to see things I sent in swaps pop up now and again in photos. Love the blue and orange of the fork with the purple here! :D

Love the fork! :flower: :D It works great both as decoration and in order to actually do the holding :)

My hair today... Just air dry: unbrushed and without any products on it. Some days it's curlier, today it's just bleh. I'll wrapt it in a bun for the afternoon though. You can see the line that divides before anf after quiting dyes. The unhennaed part is just visible ar the very top; by bow I have about 9cm of virgin hair.

Growiiiing....

Thank you! I think it's funny when people compliment the color, it happens more than I'd expect with such an ordinary shade.

Beautiful, Zesty! Your hemline looks great imo, definitely way less rebellious than mine xD
Thank you! I'm a bit self conscious about it lately so that means a lot.
