ETA: Stub, I'm not sure if I've ever seen you hair? The volume and the waves are lovely! I feel you on the whole "floaty" issue. Sometimes my hair will literally stand up at a 90 degree angle from my back. Like all of it.

YES the 90 degree angle! I was watching it do that yesterday morning when I walked the dog with it down and was amazed. I hadn't noticed it before!

Thank you samathaa and lithostoic for the compliments. It's been stuck at this length for so long that I forget how nice it really is, even when it's not growing. :)

PixieP I LOVE the hair and horse shot!

I just noticed how far my bleached streak has grown out! I last got the roots touched up about a month and a half before I joined the LHC! Don't be fooled, it didn't have to travel all the way from the top of my head, just the side, near my ear. Still, it's always fun to see such a clear indicator of progress!

Thank you. I wasted a lot of years fighting it and stressing over it, but eventually learned it will do what it wants to do, so I might as well work with it and save myself the stress :)

Same here!! Your hair is beautiful! I would always wear a poofy ponytail when I was younger. I had no idea how to style or work with my curls. I'm finally working with it now....what a process lol! I don't think I know anybody that has had as many hair problems as I did growing up. And the funniest thing is....that my hair was stick straight until about 4/5th grade. From a good inch of exploding ends, to just a pinch!! It looks bigger, too, but doesn't really feel any bigger. May just be a bit floofier because I'm closer to a wash (a few hours) this time than last (a few days).

It's nice to see, though! I've been feeling stagnant in my growth, and my measurement for August shows that as well! The flipping up at my shoulders really doesn't help with the illusion of length.

ETA: And while it looks like I've got a couple greys, according to the dozen other photos I took (that were all slightly off kilter lololol) it's just the light! Pity, I was wanting a touch of silver ;)

:o Thank you!! It is very strong, and seems to be a lot thicker than it used to be. Likely thinned due to breakage from yeeeaaarrss of dyeing it some way or another. I'm trying now to appreciate it as it is, as opposed to how I want it to be. So thank you!

Saige, I would love to see how you would look in a victorian dress, or in any princess-y garment of that era! It would suit your hair so well

Today my hair feels long. Day+3 after an SMT treatment, and I finally understand that my hair needed MOISTURE ,not protein...
Let's go for maybe one Snowymoon-moisture-treatment per week? Can one over-moisturize his hair?

yamsha23, that is a gorgeous picture! Your hair looks so thick there. Are you sure you're ii? Also re moisture, it's theoretically possible to overmoisturize, but if your hair seems to like it I wouldn't worry.

lithostoic, congrats on hitting waist btw. :)

My random picture. This is what my hair looks like when it's just dry enough for me to complete my LOC ritual. It looks so promising but never ends up staying very visibly wavy. Alas.

I forgot to say, yamsha23 your hair looks beautiful! Yes you can over moisturize but if you keep with the same routine you'll probably notice before you over moisturize.

Thanks Zesty :) Your waves are so nice!

Thank you everyone :) Zesty, good question, I'm not really good at hair classifying. The first time I measured, my ponytail had a circumference of medium/average thickness, but I forgot to count in my bangs and now I see that I have 11/12 cm, so iii = thick hair.
There are lot of hairstyles and buns I find a little bit difficult to do because of the volume of hair...

I was really happy with my hair yesterday, so I took some photo's while at work :p
I wore it in a half-up with a little cinnabun.
I loved how it looked in front a bit fluffy not plastered to my head like usual.

My hair pictures really capture my annoyance with this growth stage (shoulder to APL).

How my hair looks once it has dried:

How long it actually is if I gently stretch it:
http://i.imgur.com/ts0FNag.jpg

Can you see how happy I am with it in that last one? :rollin:

ETA: Also I sort of miss the volume I have on days 1-3 after I wash... My hair still feels clean even though I washed on Sunday night, but it's definitely much flatter!

Aww, thanks. I guess most of us have something about our hair we would like to change. I hope that mine will improve with micro trimming over some months or a year. As is usual with hair, improvements take patience. Sometimes I want to not-have-to-be-patient-any-more.

I love the post wash volume too! You know, with that length you can do easy, gorgeous braids, peacock twists and probably soon, Gibson tucks. Enjoy the styles you can enjoy now until you grow out of them. And your hair looks very pretty and healthy!

Yes, I know how that is completely! Both the wanting to change something about our hair (for me, at least right now, it's color), and the disliking patience! You could technically cut away to where you'd be happy with your ends, but I think that'd be worse than microtrimming for years.

I actually have a list of traits about my hair that I like, and compliments that others have told me about it, that I look at when I'm feeling really negative about something to do with my hair. It really helps me see the bigger picture of it, and pushes me away from only focusing on the thing I'm unhappy with, since I tend to focus on the bad things about myself way too much. You could probably fill a book with hair compliments, if you tried ;) But trying to be less critical of myself is something that I've been working on for a long time, and I've come a long way!

Sarahlabyrinth

Remembering compliments is an excellent way to feel a bit better when having a bad hair day. That, and putting it up and forgetting about it :) Learning to be more supportive of oneself is a lengthy, but very necessary process. One day at a time. :grouphug:

Once, a long time ago, when I first started to grow my hair, I wanted to avoid that stage and so I decided to put in (fake) dreads.
Only to get irritated with the upkeep and taking them out (on the bus, impulsive much ?) and my hair was exactly where yours is now.
Positive : I was happy not to go through upkeep for dreads every 2 months. Negative : grrr-stage of hairgrowing :p

I'm teaching myself to dutch braid my own hair, actually! It's much easier on someone else  And thank you! I'm trying to remind myself of the little things that are good about this stage, like my hair isn't long enough to get caught by anything except my neck holes in my shirts and bags on my shoulders, so I can wear it down with very few worries.

So you can imagine for somebody lazy but busy with the knack to give in to impulses this wasn't a great solution :eyebrows:
What was yukky is when you're taking them out all the hair that had shred in 2 months but that couldn't fall came out all at once (now imagine doing that on public transport!)

So i did a strand test with 2 step henna and indigo treatment and here is the result:

Henna on chemical dark brown hair, kept on for 4 hours:

natural light:

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn256/angel_corpse_album/20170901_174601_zps8lj6zqlg.jpg

With flash

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn256/angel_corpse_album/20170901_174711_zps4xegrzcc.jpg

Added indigo and kept on for 40 minutes

Natural light:

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn256/angel_corpse_album/20170901_184521_zpsjriyxtmy.jpg

With flash

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn256/angel_corpse_album/20170901_184456_zpsf4e9z1fu.jpg

Seems like chemical dye didn't react with neither henna nor indigo, so i can safely dye. The question is, how will it look once my natural light brown hair will start growing... Well, guess i'll stay two colored for some time. Nothing new, lol.

I cut some bangs / face framing layers in today. I've been contemplating getting bangs across my forehead for like almost a year but I went with this slightly more conservative look. I absolutely love them! I actually like wearing my hair up now. And I love how curly they are. I cut my shorter pieces that used to be bangs several years ago so my hemline isn't affected so that's good.

I dug up some hair pictures that are a few years old and I think we can agree on the fact that my hair in itself looks better with some length. My hair has a tendency to poof up and stick together at the same time. x_x

First picture is from July 2014 and second picture is from yesterday, the 1st of September 2017:

I want that hair color Shorty:) Is it a henna mixture?

It's a combination of hennaand some old red dye in the lengths. I do a 60/40 ish Jenna and cassia mix. It doesn't usually look that dark or red in real Life.

Oh! This makes me want some (on me it's a bad idea, on you it looks gorgeous!).

Thank you, thank you! I'm sure you could pull off these types of hair accessories just as well if not better than I do. I understand thinking something doesn't suits you; sometimes we might be right, but a lot of the times we're too critical of ourselves. :flower:

Wow Zesty and Starrydandelion!! That is some fantastic length and healthy hair to boot!

Your hair is so thick!! I am so jealous lol

Aww, thank you! My hair likes to poof up a bit which gives the illusion of some thickness. When I touch the hair on my scalp, I feel like I'm bascially bald. I've definitely lost a fair amount of hair around my temples.

Why embarrassing? Your hair is SO thick and beautiful!!:crush: I am so envious of your thickness and the darkness of your hair... just perfect. :)

:smooch: Oh you! I don't appreciate how my hair clumped together in one side in the first picture. With the length, my hair seems to distribute itself more evenly and not look like a glob. My hair isn't as dark when you see it outside, it has a very strong brown tint to it especially when seen in the sunlight.

It is stunning :blushing: It looks like your hair will just grow and grow! Do you have a goal length?

Oh you.. :crush: It's funny, because I've wanted blond hair for the longest time, but unless I bleach the heck out of my hair and spend a fortune, that won't happen. Even then, it probably wouldn't suit me and I don't want to know how much damage it'd cause my hair. :p
Thank you again, it's really nice when someone appreciates dark hair since I take my own for granted. I love everyone else's dark hair, but I always complain about my own. I hope it'll at least grow until I'm satisfied with the length, hehe. :) I'm thinking minimum classic with my shortest bits at classic (for now I prefer my hemline to be U or V-shaped on myself for a few reasons). I think fingertip would be very nice as well, but it's hard to say when I'll be content. I can barely do a few buns with my current length which I'm a bit disappointed about. :violin:
I'm most likely not going to terminal like you are although I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines! ;)

Haha, thanks :o Although I really have no idea how long my hair will actually grow, it's quite fine and so I would be (pleasantly) surprised if I can keep it looking nice past classic or so.

If I had your hair I would not dye it! So many people would kill for your colour, texture and thickness, you should revel in it rather than changing it :toast: And I'm sure you'll find it quite easy to get to finger tip :)

Oh and also are you subscribed to the thick hair thread? People there would have lots of suggestions of how to bun thick hair:

I think it's the most adorable 1b body wave! :D The weight of the hair usually does make the hair sit more cooperatively though!

Side note - I'm glad you never tried bleaching your hair blonde. I did it a few years ago because I hated my dark hair and I regret it so much. It wasn't until I lightened it that I realized how much I actually love dark hair. The darker the better!! So this is the result of my henndigo. All pictures have been taken standing before the window (against natural light)

Before henna (about 2,5 week old chemical dark brown hair dye), afternoon light

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn256/angel_corpse_album/20170826_160911_zpsrtbcmypt.jpg

After Henna, in afternoon light

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn256/angel_corpse_album/20170903_150138_zpsr1kzmz9t.jpg

After indigo in evening light

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn256/angel_corpse_album/20170903_182510_zpsiwglsus1.jpg

In reality my hair is still quite auburn red, though indigo has toned down the redness a bit.
I think i poured too hot water on indigo, therefore it didn't release as much dye as it could have, but for now it's ok. I'll redo it in a couple of weeks.

I know, i did a deep conditioning treatment prior to today and Cowashed henna out with a cone/sulphate free conditioner. After indigo oxidises, i'll do a moisturising treatment for my hair. :)

For now it doesn't feel terribly dry.

And some matching hair pins I added to my order for the heck of it:

I was pretty pleased by how this turned out. Looked like a tired loop by the end of the day, but a fun way to wear it down without wearing it down for a while.

Zesty, such gorgeous hair and hair toys!

wo, OMG, perfect spirals! I alternate between wishing my hair would curl like yours and wishing it would be perfectly pin-straight. (The slight wave it has is just enough to give it an attitude problem. )

neko_kawaii, I would also be interested in knowing how you fashioned that 'do, because it's super cool (even if I probably don't yet have enough length to do it on my own hair; I'll file it for future reference)!

Sarahlabyrinth, your hair is always so pretty! I envy your color (although it wouldn't go with my skin tone, because I have a weird skin tone that doesn't get along with any hair color that ranges too far from my natural dark slightly-reddish brown). But your hair is like silver and gold mixed together! :thud:

I'm sleepy, so I know there are other people I meant to compliment that I'm forgetting at the moment. But so much lovely hair! :flower:

AZDesertRose, thank you. Yes you are right, the hair color has to match your skin tone. I used to really want black hair, and dyed it black - with permanent dye. Well, you don't wanna know what THAT looked like, lol.

Neko, I would also like to know how you did that style, it's very eye-catching! And your curls make it look utterly gorgeous too. :)

Thanks all! (Braid waves, not curls, BTW.)

I made a knot held through the center with a stick, created a loop to the length I wanted, wrapped the tail tightly behind the bun, and added a couple pins to make sure the wrapped tail stayed in place.

Of course, it made a nice big tangle on the spot where it rubbed on my shoulder all day!

I realise this is a terrible photo, I don't have a full length mirror in my apartment yet but I have been thinking for a long time that when I get to BSL that I need to microtrim it for a long time. But I caught myself in the mirror just now and maybe it's not as bad as I though.

What do you think?

I can imagine! I dyed my hair black with (allegedly) temporary dye for a Halloween costume one year (probably fifteen or so years ago, in my mid-to-late twenties), and for one thing, even though black isn't that much darker than my natural hair color, it looked garish and wrong against my skin tone, and also the "temporary" box dye that was supposed to wash out after 21 washes (or something like that) NEVER came off my hair. I had to grow that mess out!

The grass is always greener, isn't it? ;) :flower:

ETA: My mom (from whom I inherited basically all my hair traits) dyed her hair platinum blonde when she was in her late teens-early twenties, and it...didn't work, at least in part because it didn't go with her skin tone (which isn't the same as mine; hers is lighter and less pink than mine; I wound up with a cross between her skin tone and my biological father's ruddy-medium [as white people's skin goes] skin) and also because her eyebrows and eyelashes were still very dark brown/almost black, and very few people with naturally blond(e) hair have brows and lashes that dark!

I can't stop posting photo's :p
I'm liking my hair for the moment. It seems to get a bit more waves, sometimes I even spot a tiny spiral at my nape.:happydance:
Don't know why or how since I didn't change anything in my routine. Although writing this I realize that it isn't true, I started a new serum but only 2 days ago and my texture was getting wavier before that. And I made myself a silk nightcap, which looks ridiculous and if I don't forget to put it on I lose it during the night 40% of the time.
But without further ado picture time ! Not the greatest quality I'm afraid

https://s26.postimg.org/3kpr94lc9/fullsizeoutput_6ba.jpg (https://postimages.org/)

And I'm quite happy with the growth rate to, this was my hair 3 years ago:

https://s26.postimg.org/v8z7hhyix/IMG_2094_zpscqfycqbp.jpg (https://postimg.org/image/4nwolxw5h/)

I'm wearing it lose on occasion now, which I didn't do al that often (not to say never in almost 3 years)
I like that people are surprised when they see my hair lenght.

Kyaatje, Thats awesome! Do you follow the curly girl method? If not it might enhance your waves to try it. I just got a sleeping cap too, it's definitely worth looking silly!
Your hair is beautiful I love the red ends.

I just used and made Flax seed gel today, and I'm really glad it worked for me. I wanted to try and get better curl definition.

I've been looking for any hair friendly updos that have loose ends, because I like to have some hair showing, and to not smash all my curls. I use claw clips a lot, but want other styles too. I found sarahlabyrinth's lazy wrap bun ponytail and I love the way it looked, but I couldn't get it really secure with a stick, so I did the same idea but with a cinnabun and I love it!!! I love the way it looks, feels, and that it's a single stick style. Very happy! ETA: I'm sure this has a name and is well known, just not to me. 😄

Based on that picture I think your ends look quite great and there's no need to microtrim! (Maybe a microtrim to tidy up once you reach BSL and then on your merry way you go).

Thank you so much! I guess the beginning "knot held through the center with a stick" could be pretty much any sort of bun? Or did you mean something more specific?

So true! It is the base of what I learned as the Lazy Wrap, but that doesn't really help, as I've since seen many different versions of Lazy Wraps.

I'll try tomorrow to get a video, but here is a textual description: gather hair and wrap around four fingers of one hand (similar to the start of a Nautilus), take the loop you just made and insert a stick through the center of the loop catching scalp hairs. If I were doing a Lazy Wrap, I'd then wrap all the length around the "knot" and behind the stick, maybe securing the ends with a second stick.

Thanks raemarthe.
I tried the curly girl methode a (long) while ago, I think about 2011.
I didn't get much more definition on my waves and I don't like using to much product. I do use an adapted version : I make my own shampoo and conditioner.
Off course without sulfates and with added humectants and keeping them quite acidic. Since I'm using these my hair does feel a lot better. I'm using them 2 years now.
So my routine now is shampoo - condish - detangle in the shower, by hand - squish water out - leave it in towel for max 5 min - scrunch in serum (new step) - scrunch in coconut oil - put in cap - go to sleep. When I wake up my hair is still a bit moist, I get it out of the cap scrunch in some extra oil with my head upside down. Let it air dry. Done :o
I don't like gels in my hair. I used flaxseedgel. Maybe I should try some aloe vera next time, I always have that at home for formulating.
Oh and I wash 1 time a week, reviving my hair in between with water, serum or oil depending on how it feels. (the photo was on 3 day hair)

To be honest you have my dream curl pattern. Just absolutely lovely :crush::flower:

I cut some bangs / face framing layers in today. I've been contemplating getting bangs across my forehead for like almost a year but I went with this slightly more conservative look. I absolutely love them! I actually like wearing my hair up now. And I love how curly they are. I cut my shorter pieces that used to be bangs several years ago so my hemline isn't affected so that's good.
