I finally took photos today for the first time since rejoining LHC. Check out this fried mess:

Back in 2006 I had curls, but only in the back:

And apparently this was my old signature pic. Not one of these is my natural color.

My first length picture in a while! Looks like I'm getting closer to hip ;) I've had my hair braided for the last couple of days, so the texture doesn't look at all as my natural one, and is a bit weird at the ends.

Okay - first attempt at posting photos, so apologies if it really doesn't work!

I've been so inspired by all you guys and your beautiful hair - amazing! My hair is still pretty short and I have a long way to go, but I did want to share a couple of pics after my first ever attempt at clarifying. I'd never heard of it before this forum, so thought I'd give it a go before my latest henna. I'm so pleased with the results! This is fresh henna, so looks really bright in the sunshine. The second pic is a close up, to show it's not quite as bright as the first pic, although the true colour to my eyes is somewhere between the two. Anyway, thanks so much for all the picture inspiration!

Oh, and welcome to LHC!

Thank you! I'm learning so much... These two photos were taken at the same time in the same lighting conditions. My phone camera cannot cope with henna! The true colour is somewhere between the two (nice as it would be to have hair the colour of the little mermaid!), although you can see how lovely and shiny clarifying made my hair. So pleased! I don't know why the photos are sideways though....

Thanks! Before that night, I hadn't either. I've had HL hair before, but I would only ever do an english braid or a crazy sock bun/braid combo. This time I'm trying to learn as I grow in to it. Once you start experimenting and learning what is easier/harder for your hair type, you'll be on your way to pro in no time! At least, that's what I tell myself ;)

My hair is still just a couple of inches too short to use hair sticks or forks. I can do a french twist, but because the sides of my hair are still growing out from when it was shaved, the left side will fall down when I do the twist. I can use hair forks and sticks if I braid my hair into a paranda though. Today I decided to try a messy bun for the first time. I ran out of pink bobby pins though and so only pinned the stray hairs and the top of the bun, but I still think it looks cute. :)

Thanks! I dry my hair part way in a simple unsecured twist (not a rope braid). My natural wave pattern can be very wild and messy looking, so this helps tame it a bit and gives a more unified wave.

Here's my length right before a big (3 inch) trim:

Jaded, those are lovely!! I especially like the turquoise one on the bottom.

I already posted this pic in the wavy brushing thread, but I rather like how it turned out so I thought I'd share it here too... Apologies to those who have seen it! I plan on tacking on a "day 3" and "day 7" shot too for the "does your hair morph" thread. It's interesting to see it side by side.

Ugh, I took pictures of my hair yesterday in it's natural post-wash wurly state and got kind of depressed about how thin it made it look (I did the whole post-partum shed thing a few months ago) so today to make myself feel better I brushed it out, it definitely looks poofy and fuller, lol!

Poof monster that's still kind of trying to wurl even though I brushed it very thoroughly:

New pic today. Ends look a little thin; either my hair is unusually frizzy today or I am due for a trim. Actually I am considering a trim of about 3 inches to thicken up the 'ol hemline. But until then it creeps ever closer to my pants pockets!

I think it takes most people around four years from scalp to waist. But, like everyone else on LHC, once I hit waist I was really interested in improving the condition of my hair. So I've been at waist for a bit, trimming away stupid layers and stupid damage. I'm thinking about reducing my trimming to microtrimming and only finger detangling. So hopefully in two years I'll be at ~TBL.

Wasn't sure where to post this but...
http://i59.tinypic.com/vmq6f5.jpg

I took a picture of my exploding bun and saw how the light caught the purple mp over my hennaed ends... Decided to get a snap of my ends.

http://i60.tinypic.com/nmjont.jpg

When I saw the parts that are orangeish leading into the red-purple I made my decision: I will do one layer of henna up until shoulder length-ish (where the virgin roots stop) so these slightly blonder parts will be orange, then I will maintain mp on the last few inches of my hair. So excited to have long enough hair to do this! I figure while I'm growing out bleach damage I may as well have fun with color :p Not sure if I should get out all the mp on my ends first before Sunday (when I'll do the henna application)... Here is a before pic of my bun after redoing it. You can see how the one part is slightly blonder than my roots.

http://i58.tinypic.com/ekpctd.jpg

-snort- my bun used to look like this before hacking off the brightest blonde bits (same bun, looks different because of the wideness of my jeter)

http://i59.tinypic.com/25qrf2v.jpg

Glad to be rid of the damage and onto a new coloring project! :)

Such beautiful braids! (And so long hair!! Gosh, I wish my hair would gain 50 cm overnight, once, not every night) I think I'll make a paranda when my hair gets longer, looks so pretty.

I felt like sharing a photo today, and this is the thread I thought of, so here it is:

http://oi62.tinypic.com/2hcolrd.jpg

I realised that I am half way to be able to almost sit on my hair! Since I only know how long it took me to get to where I am now from shoulder length... 'almost sitting at hair'-length should be about 23 months away! But I know I will trim my hair and get rid of layers, and I'm not sure how long hair I want, so I bet it would take me at least 3 years to get there if I want it that long.

I:agree: I agree...the the color and texture are so pretty!

It is great to strive for a goal, but be sure to enjoy each stage....it makes the time pass much quicker.
Get some hair toys, practice different styles, and bling it up :)
That's what got me through!

Groovy Granny, Oh, don't you worry about that, I've never had hair longer than just a bit more than this, I will be enjoying every single tiny goal in this journey for sure ;) I already feel like I got too many hair toys (oops..). I'm not even sure how long har I want yet because of the fact that I've never had long hair before.

... but ofc I want hair to the floor when I see photos of some long amazing manes, like gossamer on this page :thud: Holy mother of manes (or something), I think I am in love with your hair! (not creepy at all, don't worry, I'll admire from afar) :inlove:

French paranda braid-- apparently this yarn hates my hair since it turned into a rat's nest every turn of the braid :/ At least it's pretty!

Have you put conditioner on the paranda? That sometimes helps with the snarly uncooperative ones.

Becs, yes I do microtrim. I find I have to trim every 4-6 months, as my hair is quite prone to splits. I usually follow Feye's method for a straight trim but I only take off around half a cm.

Your hair is extremely long - while being of medium thickness. I would expect that hair like yours would taper off at the ends, but yours is consistent in volume throughout.

Massively impressive. What's your hair routine? How have you managed to grow your hair so long? I guess you have regular trims?
