Hennaed my hair with a henna/indigo blend. I was hoping it would be more burgundy than this but it is only day one.

It comes from sun bleaching. Here's my pony's tail. Both my girls naturally have all black tails (and the pony is a black). The pony bleaches a lot more with her forelock and mane bleaching too.

Your hair looks lovely, I think. Flippy ends? They are just a stage you will have to grow through, it is a most annoying stage. Be patient, tell yourself that your hair will never be this short again, and keep on growing :) Soon you will be able to put it up and forget about it.

:flower: Thank you! It's once in a blue moon that anyone even notices my hair IRL, so it's very pleasant to be complimented on it for once. I'm just being impatient; I'm excited to be on the way to having long hair for the first time in my life. But the ends thing has been an issue with me for every stage of every haircut I've ever had, so I think it might just be what my hair does. I'll just have to wait and see if it ever gets weighed down.

Hey, while I wasn't paying attention, looks like I hit BSL. This is braid waves, and I like that you can see a little of my blond underside there- I'm seriously thinking of keeping it, the nape of my neck hair is the thickest, strongest hair I have- maybe it can survive bleaching and still get long? I love the visual texture I get when I make braids, the shots of blond going through. I didn't think I would, but there ya go. Also, I resized this image, the last one I put up of my hair in a french twist was a little ginormous- is this better, guys?

I've been feeling like my hair hasn't grown at all, and then I realized I have pictures from the summer so I decided to find them, edit my face out (since this part of the forum is public), and post them!

May, right after my last haircut:

June or July, while I was on my study abroad trip in England and I was trying on fascinators with a friend:

Today (both 100% down and behind ears for accurate comparison):

LauraF, I am envious of that shiny, silky head of hair you have. I also have a fairly short torso, once I hit waist, hip won't be very far away.

Lapushka, I checked this morning after a wash and I am already there wet, it was a goal for this year, but I wasn't really sure I would make it by Christmas. Amazing what staying away from the scissors and just letting hair grow for a year will accomplish:p

Post wash after preoiling with coconut oil and CWC with finger detangling in the shower leads to much smaller wurlies. So interesting how much I can vary my wave pattern with small changes. (still slightly damp, but it'll be like that until morning and I wanted to get a pic before bed)

A little story: the first photo is my hair straight after getting my extremely damaged hair cut off (around 12 cms) because I'm an idiot who bleached the **** out of my hair with no regard for accuracy of where I'm putting the bleach (yes, I did it myself!!!!!) or the health of my hair. I paid the price when I had to cut off my long hair into a dead mullet with tiny, short, 5 cm layers at the back of my hair while my fringe barely reached my mouth. It was so horrible I dyed it brown after a couple of months of having short hair and wore it in a bun for 6 months. After I dyed it, it was then that I vowed I would never put another chemical on my hair again. My hair was utterly, utterly lifeless. Over the course of a year (including today's haircut) I have cut a total of 12cms from my ends and a few cms from my layers in the bid to have beautiful hair again. I understand that it will take 2 years to make my hair mostly virgin but I can live with that because I am FINALLY halfway!! My goal is to grow it until it is 80%+ virgin while keeping it by maintaining the length it is now over the next six months, then I'll be letting it grow out longer.

The photos are exactly 1 year apart, this is from one year ago:

I know my hair isn't as long and beautiful as some of you ladies out there, with your luscious and thick locks that go down past your waist, but I've made it a priority to gain healthy hair before I let it become long. I also have a lot of emotional baggage attached to the damaged hair and it feels so great to cut it all off and I'm pretty much in love with my hair now haha :)

Crap I didn't upload the photos properly :P Hang on a sec

SOOO PRETTY! I just love your color! :thud:

What a beautiful picture, maborosi! Your hair color is to die for!

Your hair color is so lovely!!

Thanks you guys :) :flower:
It means a lot to me- my hair is like a canvas for me.

Sparklylady82- I'm a hennahead- my mix is probably 65% cassia to 35% henna, but I dilute it further to let me do more frequent root-applications...so I'm not 100% sure the ratio. Henna is the bomb! I can use it weekly and it works well as a cleanser!

For being a 2c, you get great curl pattern when wet/damp. That's great definition!! I'm jealous!
The only time my hair goes straight is right after being sprayed down when it's sopping wet, and that only lasts for a few seconds and then my hair insists on waving/curling again. :p

Hair growth from 9/21 to 11/13

Probably a little less then it looks because first picture my hair is wavy and second picture my hair has been straightened!
But I am still very happy with the growth!!!
Now I am just trying to keep up with micro trims to help my damaged hemline!!

Yaaaay!

One weird thing about having shorter hair is the wave disappears. It's there when it's wet, but as it dries it goes straight with flippy ends. When it was longer it was way wavier than this, if I didn't comb it. I'm hoping the waves will be more pronounced this time as I grow out without dye... and that it will appear thicker with the blunt ends.

The hem of my tshirt is supposed to indicate BCL (although it is pretty uneven)- the hair goes below it when stretched. This is wash day hair, so its wavier and poufier.

Ahhh, thank you everybody! I tried quoting to thank you individually but seems like LHC isn't having it.

To KnifeGill and missblueyes - the cut I got when I was about BSL. My parents wanted to send me to the hairdresser and I wanted to keep length, so I asked for a V-shaped hem (ending in a point is what I said) because I really like that look, and I also asked for some layers so I wouldn't get thick hem / triangle head - though now I wouldn't mind those layers catching up.

Chomsky - I love your hair!
Atira - such a lovely photo, and not just because of the hair. :)!
KnifeGill - I love how excited you are with your hair progress and it seems your hair is doing well and creeping downwards.
ArielLau - gorgeous!!! My friend says "piaoliang"? is beautiful in Chinese - if that is so - then that! :D
Nadine - that - is - so - fricking - cute!!!! :D

I've been away from this site for ages, and I pretty much reverted to my old ways. I've started bleaching and blow drying my hair again! :blushing: But I do have unbelievably resilient hair.

Well, it's getting long again after last years mad moment hair chop, so here I am again! I'll start taking care of it again I think. I might as well make the most of my ridiculously fast growing and strong hair rather than ruining it.

DreamSheep, my hair is an inch or two beyond classic, and the instructions for the seashell bun are here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=65935). I do 4 loops, one over my whole hand, one over 3 fingers, then 2, then 1. I hold it with spin pins. I don't know how easy it will be for you, with such thick hair and layers, but you may be able to make it work, or do something similar!

This is where I cut it to last November

Thank you Johanna and fiğrildi for your kind words. I can't wait to get my hair back to shiny and healthy. I'm thinking of trying a cassia treatment for christmas, I'll post pictures when I've done that! I just hope it doesn't turn my hair too yellow, as it's very brassy at the bottom already due to bleached out black dye.

December's length photo. Doesn't look any longer to me than my October photo in my signature. November's photo looked shorter than October's. Oh well, the tape measure says it grew a centimeter in both months. I'm now at 85 cm.

Thanks everyone. Maybe tipping my head back to swish my hair is what made it look longer. And yes, my cows always look at me with that sort of expression... unless I have treats and they realize I have goodies for them... then a half ton of bovine love comes running up to me so fast it makes my heart pound through my chest. Just to tell you that I always enjoy reading your posts because your enthusiasm is so communicative ! You have this spontaneous happiness when you talk about your hair, sincerely enjoying it, that I find adorable ! :) Indeed, it took me some time and a lot of reading from LHC to start considering that I was entirely free/allowed to enjoy my hair (and the rest of my own person by the way) without having to feel ashamed of some vanity sin. ^^ (I think I hardly took one selfy-shot a year before that, ha ha ha !)

Agree! I really dislike it when it's frizzy. All I can do is braid it and forget when it happens :p
But I can't control when it's going to be curly, wavy or frizzy... depends on the day, even if the routine is the same.

It's entirely okay to recognize and appreciate your outer beauty. I openly admit that I am vain. Where I think it becomes nasty and unbecoming is when the pursuit of outer beauty destroys the inner beauty of the soul. I would like to think I haven't gone there, but I'll leave the determination up to those around me and God.

I love your description of the "dark red flame escaping" from my hair. That made me smile. I love it, too. I don't notice it getting longer day-to-day, but I sure can see a difference between my most recent photo and those from a year ago. The only thing that would make my hair better is MORE OF IT. Ha ha! Guess I'll have to be patient like anyone else would have to be. I think it is a little easier for me to be patient at this length than it used to be. From here forward, everything is gravy.

The first one is of my hair in May and the second is from this past week. The reason the texture looks a bit different in the pictures is because in the first one my hair is probably about 90% dry, whereas in the second it is only maybe 35-40% dry

The first one is of my hair in May and the second is from this past week. The reason the texture looks a bit different in the pictures is because in the first one my hair is probably about 90% dry, whereas in the second it is only maybe 35-40% dry
ETA: Don't know why the second pic is so much larger...sorry about that

Thank you :o I actually do not really have natural taper. I used to have mild layers, and have not trimmed them out so it gives my braid a bit of artificial taper. I hope this means my hair will be nice and thick all the way through classic. :)

It is indeed a V cut with layers - and although I love the shape, I secretly want to get a slightly more U-shaped hem, and grow the layers out slightly (here my plaitslook OK thanks to coconut oil, not washing for ages and taking the photo about 30 seconds after plaiting, but usually my plaits immediately get sticky-out bits and look like blonde cacti! :p )

I'm starting to work on the taper in my hair, so I've been trimming on the first of the month for the past three months, I forgot on Monday since I was busy, but just trimmed about an inch off, a little more than I wanted, but was in a hurry. I really don't want to wait to grow to knee length, but I don't want the taper, and I don't want to trim off half the growth every month since I will feel like I'm getting no where, arrggh the pain of growing it out. Wish I had taken better care of it in high school, and not wear it down in a ponytail everyday, literally everyday, luckily I was never into straightening my hair.

Here it is freshly washed and after the inch trim. Definitely wavier than I thought it was, I haven't taken a picture after it drying down. It's kind of hard to see, but I do have some hair making it down to classic length.

So... I decided to take a hair length shot in daylight for a change. I also tried Mineral oiling my hair while it was sopping wet in the shower, instead of after detangling damp hair, like I usually do.
I discovered that oiling it while sopping wet gives much more thorough hair coverage. I might do it again in case this time was a fluke.

I was surprised to see that my reverse ombre doesn't seem to really show much, which really pleases me.

I think it is the texture, that wavy zig zag texture that they all had. I mentioned to my sister yesterday that I am probably going to keep going on to knee length if it keeps growing (she is not a fan of extra long hair) and she said you don't "NEED" knee length hair. Of course I don't NEED it - I WANT it ! LOL

I think it is just behaving itself better today - or maybe it's because I did the mineral oil thing on sopping wet hair. I hope it continues to behave. I will be doing some micro trimming next year anyway; it can't do any harm :) It is starting to feel long now too and that makes me happy.

Fantastic neat braid, gorgeous braid waves, and I love the hoodie in the first picture, and the way it looks like he is trying to eat your braid tassel!

Thank you! :) I have noticed that since I started lurking here back in September and have begun using LHC techniques my hair does seem to be growing faster!

[QUOTE=Sarahlabyrinth;2888338]So...

Looking good & it got nice and long! :D

There is so much beautiful hair here! It's just lovely. :crush:

Here's a picture of my first French braid that I wasn't embarrassed of and actually wore outside where other humans could see it. I don't know why it looks so thick, I braided fairly tight. French braiding is hard! I wish I could hire a braider to braid my hair for me. I'd pay him/her in homemade tortillas and probably cookies.

Thanks Nadine<3. I loved your braid and braidwaves, by the way. I wish we lived close enough that we could braid each other's hair. It actually took me about three tries to get the braid looking like that. I decided to stick with English braids. Although doing two braids makes French/Dutch braids easier.

It would be so fun to have a long hair buddy to practice braids on! It took me forever to learn to french braid...I learned when I was about 15, then joined here when I was 20 and realized I wasn't done learning LOL

It gets easier with practice. Your braid looks good!
Braiding tight does make for thick braids, but eats length.

I kept my hair in a cinnabun for THREE DAYS. Talk about benign neglect :/ Result of that bun:

Out of curiosity, how did you get it to stay for three days? I've never had a cinnabun stay for longer than 30 minutes! :O

I just didnt bring my hair down at all. Not for bed, nothing! Redid my bun a few times throughout it, it gradually got higher and higher on my head. Got to try jojoba oil plus leave in in a mister for detangling, worked well!

(Blush) Thank you Madora! :) I was meaning to ask you: how do you apply your mineral oil, do you stroke it on your hair while it is dripping wet in the shower? Or do you just stroke it through damp hair rather that dripping wet hair? Just being curious, you know......:)

No, you are not supposed to apply it to dripping wet hair. You apply it on damp hair...or on dry hair.

When I use my 5 drops of mineral oil to detangle after shampooing, my hair is about as damp dry as I can make it. The mo drops are put in a small old pill bottle cap. Then I take a cotton baby swab, dip it in the oil, moosh it around so it is fully coated. Then I take the oil drenched swab and rub it all over my hands and fingers (back and front). Then I take both hands and run them thru all my hair, 5 or 6 times, or until the oil sheen has about vanished from my palms. I don't use more MO for the simple reason that it spreads like wildfire and I do not like to overdo a good thing. I have used a drop on the last 5 inches of my hair...but not very much as I usually have enough moisture/oil on the ends from brushing. I must repeat, Sarahlabyrinth, that your use of MO had such spectacular results! Man, the GM people are gonna FAINT when they get a load of your tresses!!!!!! Yes, indeedy!!! Your hair is getting to look more and more like a GM head of hair every time I see it! Way to go!

Oh my goodness, thank you! You are my hair guru and it is high praise indeed that you like my hair:):):):)

I did find that I had better "coverage" of my hair from putting the MO on WET hair. It is interesting, though, trying different things to see what works.

ETA: Would there be anything wrong with putting MO on wet hair, though?

Have a sleep bun, guys! I feel silly with top-of-the-head hairstyles.

At any rate, this is the most accurate picture of my color that I have. It shows the contrast between my natural hair and the fading dye pretty well.

Length or lack thereof shot post wash. *waves at the fellow wavies!*
Racers are getting trimmed back one inch on Dec 23 if I have anything to say about it. Getting tangly despite some minor cone use and clarifying regularly. It's not buildup, I only wash 4-6 times a month.
