I got my hair in some pretty gnarly knots the other week, took 45 minutes in the shower with conditioner to detangle it all. So I decided to do a protein treatment today and happened to have some good sunlight:

Life happens and takes its toll on hair. Even so, the ends look as shiny as the rest and maintaining or trimming half your new growth will soon thicken those up again. It’s great that your pony circumference hasn’t changed too much.

In the meantime your mane looks wonderful just as it is :crush:

Thank you :o It's generally still in very good condition! More splits than I'm used to (aka more than "none" lol), and I've found them much further up (a small portion of the thinness is just from trimming out splits and white dots) than ever before. I wish I'd been able to maintain good haircare the last couple of years, and I'm truly unhappy with what I see in the photo, but I know that being back on LHC will help keep me on track and also help support me when I'm feeling low about it!

I do feel like, because it's thinned so much, I'm not really at classic, no matter what the measuring tape says, and I'm sure I'll still feel an imposter at FTL until I've trimmed through all of this. :mad: Past me! Why'd you do this! :laugh:

Excuse the lack of shirt but I think it's why my hair actually came out looking properly black for once. Also, I can't decide if I like how my bedhead cowlick looks or if I'm worried I'm getting a bald spot.

Kinda pleased with my hair, overall. Doesn't look too bad for next day bed head that hasn't been brushed or shaken into place. But damn, I hate how easily my waves fall out. Doesn't help that my hands are heavily lotioned all the time (super dry here), and I touch my hair while I sleep.

Thank you! I think it's a little off from real life, just a touch more red than I usually see. But when I'd adjusted it to the proper color my ends totally disappeared :laugh: This is what I get for not owning a single light colored shirt.

Your hair looks lovely!! My waves fall out so so easily, it's to the point where I don't even bother anymore really! But if I bun it then it'll keep that wave/curl pattern forever :rolleyes::laugh:

Sometimes my phone makes automatic color adjustments, but yours looks like natural lighting and color. Very nice!

xanthochromia This hair must have been through a lot to make this knot! Sometimes I imagine that fairy knots like these are my hair saying "we don't want to hold onto this memory anymore" and tying itself off to be snipped! Thank you! Yup, my hair is hennaed. I used hair pins to secure the braids, and it actually stayed decently well. I recently rediscovered hair pins after years of using only bobby pins for some reason, and they are *so* much better for securing updos. I don't know why I forgot about them for so long!

From what I gather, it's UVB radiation that really harms the hair (since it damages the protein in hair), versus the UVA radiation that makes you go more blonde as that destroys melanin (it's primarily blondes and near-blondes that respond to the UVA radiation since there's less melanin in the hair to start with versus with darker hair). (The UVB rays are higher frequency/more powerful than UVA rays.) At this time of year, if you're north of 30 degrees Latitude, the sun angle isn't high enough for someone at the surface of the earth to receive much (because of scattering of UVB rays when it comes in at a sharper angle), if any, UVB radiation (just wait a month or two though, and that will be plentiful). Here in California (pretty much the entire state), there's been abundant sunshine the past couple weeks (unfortunately, we need rain and not sun), but I think my hair has become a half shade lighter just because of that!

I also hypothesize that people with fine hair are more likely to have hair lightening from the sun than people with coarse hair because of the thinner diameter of the hair (so it's easier for the UVA rays to penetrate the hair and destroy the melanin).

Anyway, just throwing in the science geek angle here...

I'm into the soft waves my hair is doing, and feel really pleased that there was no product in it at all, and it's still quite soft and moisturized. Water Only washing is finally starting to feel like what my hair wants, and that makes me and my bank account really happy lol.

Looks great, one of my favorite buns :) And the spin pins are not too obvious either way. I use black ones on blond hair, but when they're srewed in it's hardly visible.

Today's I-need-to-not-think-about-my-hair style: loose French braid into a bun held with spin pins. I recently determined that trying to hide the spin pins is too much work and bought rose gold ones so that they look like they're showing on purpose lol

Totally recommend if you want to do it at home! He's got 3 main things, clippers, scissors, scissor over comb, and we use all those methods to do dad's hair.

Maybe it doesn't show in the pictures but the last 5+ cms of hair feel much fuller and first and foremost the right side of hair looks longer and fuller than one year ago. I just hope that that weird spot of excessive breakage somehow disappears and hair there starts to gain length at the same speed than rest of the hair.

Could be mechanical damage or you wear/tie your hair in the same spot. Plus hair isn't symmetrical one side is always fuller than the other so my hairdressing trainer tells me.

I’ve been practicing my braiding on her. She has super fine hair and it is the most gorgeous natural color, light brown with golden blonde highlights.
I attempted a french braid and weaved it through the GTS fork that I got from the RAOK thread.

How do you do a faux Gibson?

For me a faux Gibson is when I make my hair pouf around my face. For this one I made a high pony twisted it once then shoved the whole thing forward on my head to create the pouf. I then added a hair rat {made from my own hair] just behind the pony, folded the pony down over it and pinned it in place securing the faux Gibson in place then I made a bun on top of that.

Oh, I get it - my hair won't do that without it parting itself and it's so very annoying, but it looks beautiful and so very elegant on you, I'm sure it must bring many compliments :)

Just a one year comparison post - I was struggling with a (left hand post, white shirt) strange tapering haircut that made my ends look very straggly. I've been maintaining this length (after I decided to dye my hair red as one last hurrah, and then cut it) and this picture in the yellow top is from a few days ago. I'm much happier with a blunter haircut and my ends look much thicker. I was considering getting another curly haircut but actually, I'm just going to keep growing it until I get to bra strap length and decide from there.

Since figuring it out, this dutch-braid crown braid (2 spiral pins, one over each ear, to keep the tail coiled up inside) is all I wear. It is just such a superior hairdo in so many ways. It keeps my hair up and contained, but solves the problems of buns:
1) The weight is distributed evenly around the head, rather than all pulling off of a single anchor point.
2) I can wear a hat over it.

It can last 2 or 3 days easily; just take the spiral pins out (cuz those are kinda uncomfy to lay your head on) and then pin it again in the morning. I've even gotten compliments on it on day 2.
