I'm getting a trim soon. I have a U hemline - which actually is the one that I don't really adore :p Blunt or a V impresses me much more. I was planning to get a V when I reach classic, but now I'm thinking why wait until that? I have a feeling that my trim will take a bit more hair than ususal as my hair is a bit tapered. Will you help me decide? I'm a bit concerned about the thickness of my ends.
Thanks in advance!

I've got type 2 hair, and my hair's pretty short, so I don't have much in the way of personal experience...
But whenever I want pictures of hair I browse tumblr and pinterest :)
Checking quickly, I found this
http://media-cache-ec4.pinterest.com/upload/205828645441468900_VXfhFL6y_c.jpg
Looks like a v-shaped hem, I think?
This (http://rapunzelsdaughters.tumblr.com/) is a good tumblr for this kind of inspiration ("Rapunzel's Daughters") though right now the very first page is full of type 2 hair so you might have to dig around...

I'd look at my album but that feature isn't working. My hair is v it grows at a natural v.

If you are worried about taper, a v-shaped hemline will increase your taper. Taper can be tricky. It is nice to have some for updos because the ends blend easily, but at longer lengths even blunt cuts usually have plenty for that purpose!
Of course, if your hair grows in a natural v, the hairdresser is probably going to have to trim a lot more to make it blunt... I always suggest trimming your own. Otherwise you will want to give very clear, explicit directions.

Although my hair is 2a/2b, this is a recent length photo I took of it partially straightened (something I rarely do anymore), so perhaps it might help you a bit? I have a v hemline, and I love it, but I agree with those who have said that it can accentuate a taper. I am not pleased with the way my hair looks in this photo, because it appears much thinner than it really is. I think part of that is due to straightening it, though. It never looks right when I do, and stubborn waves always come back!

The above highlighted layered v hem was grown out and is now longer and a gentle u hem and hair is all one length.I hated my thin braids due to the v hem taper and the shorter ends that kept sticking out of buns and braids but I loved the layered v hem with my hair loose.

Its like layers for long hair ,if you have taper now and you wear it up i would agree with chromis i'm now growing out my u and already it feels thicker.

Dollyfish,
thanks for the pic and the tips. Relying on that pic I wouldn't want a V, but she has part of her hair in a braid, so actually her hair is thicker. Yeah, I need to lurk some pages. The one which givem me inspiration is this:
http://25.media.tumblr.com/84acd941a868e5b129197890c111046d/tumblr_mfyuvrnSBa1rngqtko1_500.jpg
I want this look but at classic. I definitely can imagine it with a V-hemline.
Jacqueline,
Oh, I see. If you reupload your pics into a new album, it'll show. I'd definitely check out your hair if there were pics available.;) I read in another thread that you've hit BSL, I wanna see that. ;)
Chromis, (sorry for the awkward quoting)

I'm getting what you're saying...my hair grows bluntly...and until now I've wanted to preserve as much hair as possible. That's why I didn't get rid of the U. Now that I'm getting a trim I feel that I may enhance my hair a bit by having it professionally cut. My hairdresser is long hair friendly and I trust her, sometimes I trim my own hair, but it gives me a well-cared feeling to have it cut by her sometimes. That's how I thought about trying the V, which is my goal eventually. Basically I like to wear my hair down, that's what the style should go well with. However I'll think about the updo concerns. About the taper, I'm telling myself that my ends are from the era before LHC, so the regrowth hopefully will give me a thicker hemline, but we'll see.
ETA I mean I'm hoping to get rid of most of the taper, but if the V went totally badly with it, I would wait with getting it.
Irish Fae,
I think I'm sold! ;) I like your hair a lot! The look of 'it has just fallen on your shoulders and back' is what I'm going for! V-s give dynamics to the hair I think! Movement! Oh yeah, thanks!
But I'd be happy to see more pics, just for the fun!
dulce,
Wow, your V used to be really deep! I think I want it a bit gentler.
and bunzfan,
yeah, I'm also tempted for the blunt hemline, exactly because of the thick braids! Yours look very neat!
Thanks for your feedback!

You are very welcome, and thank you for the compliment! I think you will like the v hemline. It does give movement to the hair, and I also know what you mean about the look of just falling on the back and shoulders. That is one of the very things I like about the shape.
If it helps you at all, this is another photo of my hair with its natural wavy texture, from several months ago. I apologize for the blurriness. It was a mirror photo, and not in particularly good lighting. The v shape is more subtle because of the waves in the hair. http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa336/captainlonewolf/IMG_0058_zpsc73519db.jpg

:) Yes, that's it! My other choice would be a totally blunt hem, which emphasises thickness (not that I have so much) and shine, but my ends tend to wurl up sometimes and that kills the neatness. :D V is badass.
Actually my texture is closer to the one on your straightened pic, but that's OK, I prefer the sharper V. :)

Atm my hair is or atleast was close to a V hemline especially when it lays a certain way. It is due to lots of layering I have. I'm trying to slowly cut out my layers though, so I cannot really speak for how great the hemline is. I don't like layers on myself anymore.
Here's a pic from some months ago:

Mine is around a 1c/2a, but I don't have any pictures of my hair at the time I had a v-hem without bunwaves. I cut mine into a V with slight layers because I was getting fed up of it being too thick. If not for the stress-related shedding I discovered I get every year at exam time, I would still have one, but now I have a U-hem, with no layers.
If I didn't have such thick hair, I don't think I would have liked it as much. As it is, my braids tapered pitifully, and the ends stuck out of my buns (which was fine, as I was kind of going for that anyway). If I eventually reach classic, I'll probably go back to a V if I can keep my ends thick - if I cant keep my ends thick, I don't think it would work so well, because there's very little at the very ends of a V anyway. Anyway here's a pic (if it doesn't turn out huge again - photobucket has been wierd with me since their update)

thank you so much! it's just a flattering picture, the waves make it look thicker and the angle makes it look longer... if the picture was head-on you would see that my hair is not as long as it looks in that picture lol I wish! also, they were damp bee-butt bun waves :)

I managed to take a pic which can be a reference.
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1826&d=1358884003
Conclusions:
1. I reached hip.
2. Really need to trim. The V might not be a good idea right now, I may lose too much hair. I'll ask what the stylist thinks as well, but probably I'll wait a year with it.
I'll get the trim around next week. I'll post a pic after. Then I'll quit obsessing with it, no length checks and stuff. Maybe some changes in the routine, but benign neglect anyways.

I think you would look fantastic with a deep V, as long as the tip is where your hem hits now.

Do you think so? Your advice is tempting, especially because of what you said about the length...It's been quite a struggle to get there - mostly the patience part LOL. I think I need to trim a bit, but maybe the V would go better with the fairytales? Hmm...Thanks, I'll definitely keep it in mind.

Update: photoshopped some pics:
I came across Nightshade's thread and realized how much better TB-ish hair looked! Even with a bit of thinner ends! (Sorry for my lazy, untidy photoshopping.)
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1924&d=1359064140
And how it would look like at my length. I didn't make my hair longer at all in this one.
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1925&d=1359064143
Oh, I will do it! Yay for V! Thank you guys for your help!
ETA I got my cut! I didn't mean to get back to waist, however I didn't feel angry about it. Actually I can admit that my hair was thinning from waist downwards. I'm absolutely happy with the shape and the thickness of the hemline, yay! I hope I'll be able to keep it until classic. I looked at some old photos from my teens when I had waist length hair which was cut back to BSL two times. On the photo, I had a nice thick hemline, so this might be the right way to go.

:o You my friend, are my official new hair inspiration!!!! I want it exactly this way! I have a question. When did you cut the layers?
My hair is APL now and I want to wait cutting the layers until it reaches BSL or waist or something... What do you recommend?
I love V shaped hemlines! I do want mine to be something between U and V however...
