Took me about an hour to do it total. Sectioning out the hair is probably the hardest part, but it is possible to do it on yourself. For the structural vitta I used the paranda I made out of yarn.

I don't have the patience for it but I had a hankering its doable. Especially if you're not going to be using bodkins, needle or thread. But the sheer thought of the amount of pins needed made me not want to bother.

It's definitely one of those styles you have to set out time to do and be determined to finish. It wasn't too difficult but I'll probably not try again for some time.

Hence the reason I have not bothered to do the fish bun yet despite the multiple requests for it. Just *thinking* about doing that braid has me tired...

Impressive! :thud:

Great execution. :)

I took one look at that video and decided it was too much for me (also, probably my hair is too short).

Fantastic. I have a soft spot for ancient-era hairstyles.

That is beautiful! Something I also don't have the patience for so I'll just admire the look in your hair. ;)

I thought I recognised that as a paranda. :) Well done, it looks every bit as good as the one in the video.

Well done!! I like the use of the paranda as well. Brings a touch of color to it.

Very good job.

This is amazing! If you want to show pictures on the historical hairstyles thread, we'd love it!

I've just linked to you on our historical thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=89087), to keep everything somewhat organized and findable. :)

Gosh I can't see the pictures for anything -- I wish I could! I bet it's lovely. I checked the source to make sure it's not blocked for me and it shouldn't be... I don't know why they're not showing.

Reviving this thread because I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this hairstyle (or at least an approximation of it) in the years since this thread was started? I also would like to know how this hairstyle feels to wear -- how solid/secure it is, is it comfortable to sleep in, how many days can it be worn while still looking okay, that kind of thing if anyone has any input on that.

From the tutorial I can see that it's a rather complex hairstyle and would probably be at least somewhat difficult/complicated to do on one's own hair. If I were to attempt it, I don't think I'd limit myself to historically correct tools: I'd use modern hairpins as needed to secure things. Also I probably would leave out the scarf and rope thing that goes over the style once the braids are completed.

Oh that is very pretty. It doesn't look that hard. I wonder how long hair needs to be to accomplish it?

While I do think it's possible to do this style on one's own hair, it's not a super simple hairstyle. The process of doing the style is rather intricate. Either in the description of the video or in something else I was reading about this hairstyle, I think it said you need about waist-length hair (at least) to do it. Although it might be possible to do a modified version for hair that's slightly shorter.
