i have curly hair. I don't want to lose my curl but I also wanna hendingo my hair black. my hair is nearly black and I think I look more attractive with curly blue-black hair - so no problems there. I have no issues with 'committing" to black hair. so . . . . but I'm afraid of losing my curl, or what little i have. or losing my curl if I get a perm. i have herd that amla can help but I have no idea how to use it (with the henna or the indigo) and how much. plus, I have heard that for so many people, it doesn't help bring back the curl anyways. ideas?

I think with amla, you add about 2 tablespoons to the henna mix :)

okay thanx. my daughter also wants red hair and I think I'd like that without the amla cuz I'd love the straightening affects on her hair, hehe
but me - yeah , i just want black hair after I get the perm. so will see how it goes.

Curling, braiding, or curling and braiding your hair once you put the henna in helps a great deal with curl/wave loosening, for me at least. After having my curly waves go straight my first true henna application I became obsessed with reviving them (amla, color oops *which worked the best*, and all forms of hair washing). After I got them back I craved my henna color and became absolutely obsessed with over coming henna's straightening effect, so tried this method and it worked to retain my texture much better, it still loosened a bit and I ended up taking some back out via color oops, but I do believe this had more to do with both getting very lazy and not twisting my hair properly (too big and to loose), and not waiting long enough for my hair to bounce back after the henna as I get the tiniest bit of residue for the next 3-4 washes and once that's gone my hair seemed to bounce back a little even the first time around. As of now I have both my original texture (for the most part) and plenty of henna color.
The reason I say I don't think I put the twist in quite properly and that's why it didn't worked as well as I'd hoped, is because I've been experimenting braiding and curling with henna applied to wavy human hair extensions, and with that process all my test subjects have maintained their wave even straight after rinsing out, and are at optimal again after a couple of washes and some moister. Braiding and then wrapping the lock of hair around my finger and pinning it into place has yielded the best results so far.
Because your hair is not that hair (and because you would have a perm), I would definitely suggest trying it out on a lock of your own hair first if your interested in trying this method, just for precautions sake.
Hope I've helped.
