View Full Version : January 2013 - Triple Buns

A brand new year has started. With that comes a brand new hairstyle of the month! For January 2013 we are going with...

Triple Buns

How will you interpret the use of three buns? Will you braid them, not braid them, do them vertically, diagonally, or some other way?

We're all excited to see your take on this style.

I think I need to sleep. I thought about three buns and my first thought was Mickey Mouse... so here we are, the mickey mouse bun.

Well I'm not very skilled or hair-creative, but here is my attempt at a messy three-bunned bun.

While out of control, all the short fuzzies make me feel good. My hair is growing back!! Now how to tame....? XD

EDIT: Kaydana, that's so ADORABLE!

Ok, here is my effort. I didn't realise how crappy & scruffy it looked, and I have just come back from town so have been walking around looking like this in public lol!

Hopefully the pins won't stick out too much (3" pins might not be very handy for three smaller buns).

Neko_kawaii, this just lovely! And is that one of your carved forks too? Can we get instructions for the 'do?

Thank you! It was just three cinnamon buns. How was it sectioned. . . The first bun (closest to the ear) was from my usual side part back to the crown and then over to just past the ear farthest from the part and then twisted and pinned. The next bun was the lowest one and it was straight down the middle to nape, twisted and pinned. The third was the remaining section from the side part down to nape and then smoothed over to hide all the other partings, twisted and pinned, then the little fork was tucked in between the top two buns and miraculously missed all the pins. I was quite surprised I was able to get my lambskin hat over it all.

And yes, that is the walnut fork I carved a few days ago. I was delighted with this style. It held up to having the hat on an off all morning. I wasn't sure it had enough pins. Three spin pins and three bobbies were all I packed for the trip so that was two pins per bun, eek!

Aww, thank you two! I know I have seen tutorals for it on Pinterest. After a bit of hunting, I think this is about right: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6fPum5AEBI&list=UU3VnTqDvwt2naGzfz_H_Wpg&index=8. I usually just start twirling my finger in the middle of a strand, bringing the bottom of the strand up to meet the base.

This one is from the beginning of the month but I had to wait for my cousin to give me the picture. It was during a trip to Chicago:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1743&d=1358664114

This was after we'd been walking around in the cold for several hours. It's three chinese buns with a braid emerging from the center of the top one. I put it up without a mirror while I was on the train, so that's why it's so messy and there are (generally mismatched) hair sticks everywhere.

abbatabba1137: yours is AWESOME!

Ok I tried this. This is not something I would actually wear out but it was fun to experiment. I chose flower buns (rope braid buns) because it was easiest for me. My daughter is laughing at me but I worked too hard on them to take them out! So they stay the rest of the day. It looks utterly ridiculous from the front and not becoming on me at all. I think they would be much improved if I had some decorations to put in but I don't.

Started with a regular braid loosely, then ropebraided the three strands into ropebraids.
Pulled up the braided part and secures with a flexi S and swirled the three ropes into three flowerbuns.
The outer ones have a flexi mini in the middle.

Maybe I am a bit too late. And in fact that is a hairstyle I created in 2011, before the big shed.
Nowadays there is not enough hair for something like this. I guess a triple bun ist something for at least a ponytailcircumference of 6 to 7cm and LONG hair - or more circumference. With less you will end up with rastas.
