Hiya everyone :D
My mum recently came back with some hair toys that I've never actually used before, they're two metal combs about 3 inches long, connected with strips of elastic covered in beads (I have no idea what they're called!) and I also have no idea what styles I can use them for... I've realized they are good for securing french twists but that's about the range of my creativity with them xD

Just wondering if anyone else had any other ideas?

They sell them here in the uk, they are ok for half up dos or like you said.

Unless its a huge one there's not much use for them apart to look pretty on small bits of hair,

I have a black beaded one, I used it be able to pull it either side of a normal bun but can't Ay more =(

You could do a peacock twist with it. They are okay for shorter lengths, when the toy isn't so much weighed down by the hair. Like ZenaZoo, I have no use for them anymore as I'm past hip length and my hair's too thick and heavy for the combs to hold properly - they just slide right on out!

Thanks for the ideas ^^
I'm in the UK, my mum just randomly gave me a few earlier and they left me rather confused! They are very pretty though, bit of a shame they can't really do much then. I guess because my hair is rather short and not overly thick I could probably get them over a bun right now, so looks like they're limited to buns, half-ups, french and peacock twists haha

Limited to buns, half-ups, french and peacock twists? That's hardly limiting!

I have loads of these. Maybe 10 or so? I pick them up when I see them going cheap (usually from pound shops) or make my own (usually out of the ones I bought cheap because it's often cheaper to take them apart to get the combs than it is to just buy the combs).

The trick is to not try to secure anything with them. They're not really designed for anything more heavy duty than half ups. I treat them as a purely decorative item.

I took pictures of some of the styles I use them with, but the SD card reader on my laptop is being temperamental.

ETA: I am victorious! The Kaydana has defeated the evil SD card reader once again! So, without further ado...

This is what you're meant to use them for:

This is what I normally do with them:

I've never heard of them. They sound neat.

What beautiful styles, kaydana! I've seen some of these comb things before, but none quite as versatile as yours.

Ponytails too, perhaps, as in this Scunci video:

There are youtube demos showing many interesting styles with this sort of thing, but a lot of the styles seem like they would cause almost immediate elastic failure:

Lovely photos, kaydana! Did you make that one?

I think at least here in the USA they are called EZ combs. I used to have a couple but my hair always slid out of them

Didn't make that one, it was one of the cheapies from a pound shop. Just happened to be the one I had to hand.

Mine definitely isn't stretchy (or fancy) enough to do some of the styles in those videos. The ones they're using are really pretty, I might have to dig out the bead box again...

ooh, I have one of them...but been scared to use it, for fear of catching hairs...now that I can see it can be done, may give it a go :D

Oh wow, yours are gorgeous Kaydana :D Thank you so much for sharing your photos. I see what you mean about using them as extra decoration rather than to secure things, makes a lot of sense haha

And thanks QMacrocarpa - those videos are hugely useful, the styles they are making are so pretty.
