Hi this is my first post.. I've been using Surya henna color and the problem is I have a grey streak in the front of my hair and the rest of my hair is brown with scattered grey so when I henna my hair its mostly brown with a red streak where the grey is. I want to make the red turn brown. I am allergic to chemicals and I was wondering how to make a brown henna? I am so new to this any advice would be appreciated!
Thank you,
Carolyn

If you want brown, you will need to use a henna that includes indigo or katam. They have blue dyeing properties, so when mixed with the orange of henna, it makes brown.

That's what I use for my grays, it works great. I had been using henna and indigo but I had some itchiness with indigo so I recently switched to katam. Here's a photo - you can't even see any grays, they blend in so well! And no orange/red! (At least until the katam fades - it seems to fade a bit faster than henna does!)

You may want to look at the "mixes" page of http://www.hennaforhair.com/

They have a lot of different color results. You'll want to look through the brown/brunettes for people using indigo in their mix, and people who describe their natural hair color as similar to yours, as some of the brown/brunettes ares people with naturally dark brown hair, using henna only to give a more subtle red highlight.

Where do you buy your henna's? Ive read somewhere that some places have henna's that have metals in them.. will they say if they do?

Carolyn,

Here is the thread about katam: Buxus dioica AKA katam

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=8580

For Henna and indigo: http://www.hennasooq.com/

Or Hennaforhair.com look at suppliers.

I know that amla took out some of the red when I mixed with cassia and henna. I have yet to use amla just with henna.

Thank you memyselfandI I would like to try this but I have a question about the lemon juice and soaking it for 12 hours because the Surya I use doesn't require that and I dont need to leave it on very long only aobut 40 min. and it covers great even the grey streak I have but the grey streak is red so I'd like to try the katam on the grey streak how would I mix it then? Here is a link to the Surya I use the powder.
