I'd like to treat myself to a hairdo/pamper session at a hairdresser that's used to working with long hair, can anyone reccommend such a salon in the UK? I live on the south coast but could travel up to London if necessary.

Being reluctant to trust anyone other than my hairdresser near to me to trim my hair, I just want to have my hair done in a different style by a professional who knows what they're doing. I don't want to wear my hair up in a bun as my husband says this makes me look like an old granny, I just want it perhaps tied off my face somehow but left loose at the back. My avatar photo is fairly recent except that a couple of weeks back I had a full fringe cut into my hair to hide my forehead.

Or should I just ask my local hairdresser what they'd suggest, seeing as I trust them near my hair with the dreaded scissors?

I've heard LHCers raving about the George Michael salon in London (specialises in long hair), but I know it's really pricey. I think you'd be looking at about £80 for a dry trim, and a whole lot more for a hair treatment. There are a few threads floating around which include pictures and accounts of people's experiences there, or at the salon in New York.

ETA: Serves me right for not reading your post properly. I think George Michael will only do a straight-across trim, and I don't know if they do updos. I second kaydana's youtube suggestion below. Finding LHCers' youtube channels is how I've learned most of my styles.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for. Do you want a new cut or are you looking for a treatment and updo? If it's a cut, I'd stick with someone you know and trust and find some pictures of what you want to show them. If it's a treatment and updo, I'd rummage around the forums a bit for recipes, then hit youtube for some updo instructions. Most full updos can be converted into half ups, so you have a huge amount of choice for styles.
