I got these as a treat/gift for myself when at Sallys last week:

For a test, I took shower two nights ago and put these in when my hair was damp and left them in until dry (about 5 hours). While I LOVED the curl they gave me, my hair was all wonky at the scalp and I just couldn't get it to style any way.
I know there are proper methods for curling, such as the direction to roll the curl in and where to place them. I just don't know how to do it. Any suggestions? Tutorials (preferably picture tutorial and not video tutorial)?
I think my thin hair is more of the issue as I put only 5 rollers in. I was thinking if I did more rollers with less hair, I might reduce the wonky-ness?
