This (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=10848) thread inspired me to try this style myself and this is what I came up with.

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/th_PICT0004b.jpg (http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/PICT0004b.jpg) 1st try http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/th_PICT0010-2-1.jpg (http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/PICT0010-2-1.jpg) 2nd try

Needed:
2 hairbands
Hairpins (whatever kind you prefer)
Instructions:
Part hair off centre.
Twist each side back (like this (http://www.dressytresses.com/hair/gallery/instruct/hair-roll/)) and fasten at the nape.
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/th_PICT0002-1-1.jpg (http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/PICT0002-1-1.jpg)
Take the ponytail you've made, place 3 fingers under the base of the tail and fold the tail around your fingers. This will create a loop with a long tail hanging down. Fasten the loop with a hairband.
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/th_PICT00042-1.jpg (http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/PICT00042-1.jpg) http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/th_PICT0005-1-1.jpg (http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/PICT0005-1-1.jpg) http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/th_PICT0006-1-1.jpg (http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/PICT0006-1-1.jpg)
Wrap the rest of your hair around the base of the loop, covering the hairband.
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/th_PICT0007-2-1.jpg (http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/PICT0007-2-1.jpg) http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/th_PICT0008-2-1.jpg (http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/PICT0008-2-1.jpg) http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/th_PICT0009-1-1.jpg (http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk38/Isilya86/PICT0009-1-1.jpg)
Pin in place (this may be tricky). Done! If any step is unclear, let me know and I'll try to explain better :)

I <3 this!! Beautiful job Isilya. Could you clarify exactly where on the neck/loop you hairband the loop and how tight? And if you have any step-by-step pictures, that would be great! :) Again, thank you!

For the loop placement: after making the loop, I fasten it on the same place as the ponytail. The 2nd hairband goes on top on the first.
Tightness: you have to be able to get your fingers out of the loop without messing the loop up, so it can't be too tight. It's better to make the loop a bit loose.
Step-by-step pics for this step will go up in a minute :)

Oh wow! Good job!! Was it tricky to figure out?

No, not really. I just started with the twisted part, since that was obvious from the movie. The bun-part was a bit more challenging, but after studying the pics, I thought the loop + wrap would work well.

Isilya,

Thank you for the step by step instructions and pictures.

My first question. How do you get to the first step? How did you do the sides.

My styles are down, or twirled in a bun. I have more length to grow to get to where I was, but I am intrested in learning more then my two basic styles. I would like to try the sides for something different then a pony tail when up.

I return with some other good news: This style holds well! I've been wearing it for most of the day, it's been windy and I've walked for a bit, but it still looks more or less the same as when I went out the door. The rolled sides have dropped a bit, a little more frizz, but that's pretty much it. No hairspray, gel, anything. I used clips instead of bobby pins (can't ever make them work with these sort of styles) but otherwise it's the same. Yay? Yay!

Beautiful hair style, but it's not going to work in my hair. :(

I just tried it, and apparently if you have long and thick hair, you end up with a large bundle of hair dangling below daintily twisted side sections, and the whole look is out of balance. I'm going to go play around with some braids, and see if I can the bottom section to match the top better, but I don't think it's going to be the same style by the time I get done.

You know what would be really neat - some kind of chart listing hair styles with a size chart showing what length/thickness worked for each, kind of like with nylons. :D

That would be SO helpful.

So down one side we'd have thickness/texture, and down the other length, and sort of a bar chart that shows which hair style works?

You could always start a thread to compile information using general body marks (shoulder, APL, BSL, midback, waist, etc) and then start to put it into an Excel sheet. I'd offer to do it, but I suck at Excel, and any chart I got out would look like modern art.

Best idea EVER! Especially for us thick-hairs - I'm just now managing so-called APL styles. If you could combine that with a linked dictionary of sorts, linking to howtos for each style, it would be epic win.

I used very large sections in the second pic. I think I unknowingly twisted them a bit too, because it looks a bit like a rope braid :hmm:

Arctic can do one with APL hair, so it's possible you can do it too. You can use 2 fingers to make the loop, that way you have a little more hair left to wrap.

Thank you :)

A small warning for those of us with fine/thin/easily tangled hair:

I wore this 'do a couple of days ago to work, and got some compliments on it. It looked really cute. However, when I got home, I had a tangled mass of hair the size of my fist on the underside of the wrapped pony part (took me over an hour of finger detangling to get it out, and I still lost a bunch of nape hair in the process). I should have known better, with my fine and thin hair, I absolutely cannot allow loose (unbraided, for example) hair to come into contact with the back of my neck, whether it be bare or with clothing. It will become horribly tangled if I do. So the only way I will be able to wear this style again is if I do a braid for the pony part, and make sure it is a bit further up than right on the nape of the neck. It's a pretty enough 'do that I think I will take the extra time to braid it, though.
