Hello LHC,

I've been reading about the benefits of gelatin for hair, skin and nails and I'd like to try it to see it it works. This is the brand I bought: Great Lakes Gelatin (http://www.amazon.com/Great-Lakes-Unflavored-Gelatin-16-Ounce/dp/B001ELLBJS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1355025014&sr=8-1&keywords=kosher+gelatin)

I'm going to have 1-2 tablespoons per day in tea or coffee. It would probably be good to do an initial assessment of length & ponytail circumference along with a picture. What else do you all think should be included?

So tomorrow I will post all that- will you join me?

I've thought about trying the knox gelatin several times. As you stated the benefits are suppose to be great.

I have started this before and never followed though. It was too messy for me!

Thanks for replying you two. I guess since this will be an experiment of one, I will continue in a blog.

Hmm, I don't know about ingesting it daily, but I did here of a jasmine green tea jello, which sounds like something that I would eat. But I have heard of using gelatin on the hair as a protein treatment. I have some plain knox gelatin at home so I'll try it.

I did this years ago and it worked. Gave it up because I was taking 6+ caps a day back in Australia. My nails did grow long for a while. Now I'm taking Biosil and Biotin for hair, skin and nails. One tablet and 6 drops a day. My nails are now growing long and strong, no longer peeling.

Good luck with this ;-)

Silverbrumby, In what way did it work for you?

I used to take BioSil too an I liked the caps but the liquid was sooo bitter. How do you stand it?

The way I do it is actually really easy- I don't make jello.

I put 1 tablespoon in a cup and cover that with a bit of cool water. Then I pour in my hot coffee or tea (without the teabag) and stir until it dissolves. Then I drink it before it gets cold, but I normally do that anyway since it takes awhile to get cold. Also, you can't taste it in a hot liquid.

It's been so easy to do twice a day since I have coffee in the morning and herbal tea at night. Hope that makes it seem more doable to those of you who want to try it :-)

Ive done this as a protein treatment and i love it, just curious as to why you are mixing in tea or coffee? I use boiled water, make sure to follow up with a moisturising treatment too :)

I have tried Knox for Nails and regular Knox. I get it in the caplets now. So easy. No mess. I have been taking them for awhile now and I think it does make a difference. My nails grow like crazy anyway. Here is what I get http://www.vitacost.com/thompson-hydrolyzed-gelatin

Vegetarians and vegans beware...gelatin is an animal product. Boiled skin, tendons, ligaments, and/or bones from animals, mainly obtained from cows or pigs. :(
Personally I avoid it when possible.I think many people are unaware of what gelatin is.

I'm fully aware of what gelatin is- in fact, when I have more money I hope to get bones from pastured beef and chicken and make bone broths that will have a lot of gelatin on their own :yumm:

I think I am going to try this as soon as I can find gelatin in caps. I guess I will order online if I cannot find them IRL for a decent price. I am not about to put it on my hair, too chircken (sic).
