View Full Version : Hairstyle for a graduation?

Hi! I'm going to attend the graduation of those of my fellow-students and friends who finished last year (I'll graduate next year ;)), and I was wondering about what to do with my hair.
I'd like something semi-formal, not as formal as what one would wear to, say, a wedding, and yet not as informal as a normal university style or a friends-out style. Also something that isn't overdone, as I'll just be a guest ;). I'm dealing with some Elvish styles for The Hobbit opening, plus an exam and some other assignments, so I'm afraid I don't have a lot of imagination left :), and I'd really appreciate your suggestions.
In case the context helps, I'm going to wear what I hope is a semi-formal attire, a black Grecian-pleated top, plum corduroy trousers and knee-length boots. Probably with black eyeliner and clear gloss, nothing too overdone. I have fine, straight ii/iii hair, not very voluminous. I'm prepared to do bandanna waves if a certain style requires relatively wavy hair.

Thank you!

I really liked your french braid down the back with a ribbon intertwined, picture in the ribbons and braids thread, very unique and different.

I'd do a bun (buns are my go-to for everything, though ), one that is not one you wear daily and it is a little complicated looking should work: a rose bun, or a bunned dutch braid, for example. You can dress it up choosing a fancy stick/flexi/holding device.

I'd do a bun too and let a few wavy pieces hang loose. I'd wear a pretty barrette or hair toy above the bun.

Thank you for your suggestions! I like the idea of including ribbons/parandi!

So an option could be two French/Dutch braids intertwined with purple parandi, and bunned. With the side-swepted bangs. That sounds nice :).

Other option might be this: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/entry.php?b=98536

I'm welcome to more ideas!

I really like the bunned French or Dutch parandi option, myself. That sounds gorgeous!

Don't forget about accent braids, if you opt for a more simple bun. They can dress up a plain cinnamon bun or nautilus, and if you use sticks that have dangles or are generally dressy-looking, you don't really have to do too much with the bun itself. ;)

Also...remember to take photos and report back with whatever you decide.

A cameo bun or something with accent braids, if you leave it hair only it will be less flashy ;)

I like the purple paranda idea though.

What about something like this http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wAAXjPlJuMM/Tn_oIBspHsI/AAAAAAAABqc/cdktdPV6riM/s400/khaleesis%2Bbraids.jpg or this http://images.cosplay.com/i/costumes/200/392565.jpg ? Your hair is so amazingly long and pretty, I think you should flaunt it ;)

Thank you for the new suggestions! They all sound very nice, it's difficult to decide!

I made my first ever purple paranda today, and wore it with a French braid. I totally love how it looks (plus my hair looks thicker, which is always nice :)), so I think I'm really going to do something wih parandi and braids. It might be two French/Dutch braids, bunned, or maybe some kind of multibraided style, unbunned. I'm not such an expert braider as to try Game of Thrones styles as yet, but that style is gorgeous, Tota!

Sillage, you share the most wonderful updos! I'm so pleased to be seated next to you in the Bun Lovers Club.

SWR, I don't have any suggestions to make (you're welcome *wink*) but I can't wait to see the pictures!

Thank you my friend! :D I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures. A lot of times I feel like my tastes are not instep with everyone else here, so I'm glad you like them too. Makes me feel less lonely, LOL

I like them too ;)! I like messy buns, and the Gibson tuck is one of my fave updos, too (only it's so tricky, for my length).

Oh, I love them, but I'm afraid I don't have time to learn now! I have yet to learn many kinds of braids :)

Here are my ideas:

- Braided seashell bun
- Rose bun

- I have no idea how many strands this braid (http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1mq27A5WL1r7gst8o1_400.png) is, so perhaps this version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ucrj8EtzWE0)should be easier.

At the end I did a French braid, with a purple paranda. I wanted to do the French/Dutch sidebraids and probably bun them, with parandi, but my hair got so much static and behaved so badly I had to desist (to my great frustration). The French braid looked OK, though.

I really have to find some more time to practise styles! Thank you very much for all your suggestions, maybe I'll begin with those :)!

That sounds really pretty. Relatively simple, but who can say "no" to a paranda? :)

Indeed! I've been using this purple paranda nearly every time I've done a braid. My hair tangles less as I braid it, it adds thickness and it looks pretty. What's not to love? :)
