View Full Version : Should I get bangs?

I have a weird hairline - there's a small area of sparse hair in the middle which looks ok in real life but shows up and looks bad in photos. I think it has been there for most of my life as I recently saw a photo from when I was 14 or so and had it then. Possibly where my centre part used to be? I've been thinking for a while (like, a year or so) of putting bangs in to hide the problem area. Plus bangs would add a little interest in front as I always have my hair up and mostly my bun is visible only from the side or behind. But I work outdoors - am I going to get sweaty, limp bangs on a hot day? And how much do they move around and get in your eyes?

Hmm...I think photos would help. :flower:
From your description of your job which seems to involve a lot of physical exertion, I might be wary of cutting bangs. Or not, actually, as long as you're fine washing them more frequently and/or occasional heat styling and maintenance. :) Bangs look really adorable, so it's really up to your personal preference.
Maybe try modelling your hair with fake bangs by putting your ends up in a headband and then securing them, or giving yourself a deep side part and swooping them over your forehead so they mimic bangs?
The 2-week rule is also good advice. :)

Agreed, I'd like to see pics to know what you mean.
You can always pin bangs back with hairpins if needed. Before you cut, play with a zigzag part to see if that can cover the spot. Or a full part at a thicker area and sweeping hair over the thinner area. I've seen so many pictures of bangs lately that I like that I'm thisclose to cutting mine!

I agree, seeing photos would help.
If you get thin bangs, then yes, they'll get sweaty and limp very fast. On thicker bangs it won't be that noticeable. But thick bangs will get into your eyes a lot when they start growing out, so you'll need to trim them frequently. Side-swept bangs are easier in that aspect because you won't need to trim them as often.

I've to agree seeing a photo would help. I do like bangs my self. They do have a habit of getting sweaty in the summer time. There is a solution to that dry shampoo helps wick away moisture.

I don't regret getting bangs myself, and when I'm doing hot and sweaty work, I wear a wide head-band to hold them back.

Hopefully this works.
ETA: Awesome, it worked! You can see there's a random bit out of my hairline.

Depending on the thickness of your hair and whether you like it, bangs may not be a good idea. With blunt bangs hairdressers really like taking some of the hair from the back to create into bangs, which can get annoying when you're trying to grow your hair out. I do see why you'd want to cover up that spot on your hairline and you could do it by changing your part (taking some hairs from the thicker side and moving them to the other side of your head).

Seeing the photo, I think bangs would definitely suit you. :)
I also like how your hair looks now, though, so I don't think you can go wrong. :flower:
One thing to check before you cut bangs is whether or not you have any cowlicks around your temple -- that could affect how your hair lays when it's shorter.
