Wavy or Straight? Hair that is... ;)

So I have been growing my hair out from super short and I have about 3 months worth of growth right now. I'm about to enter un-explored area when it comes to my hair since I used to go every month to the barber shop and this is the longest it has been since I was really young. The question is, I have noticed a slight curly-q at the back corners of my hair on my neck. The longer hair that is starting to come down over it is starting to curl frontwards, towards my ears. This is only near the ears, the rest of my hair in the back, top, and sides is stick straight. Is this because of the way I comb and sleep on it or is this sign of future waviness?

It's propably is too early to tell if it's wavy.
Do you have pictures? How does it look when you have washed and air dried it without touching it (no combing, or styling products)?

I have read that cowlicks etc are actually part of waving pattern, though :)

I agree with Arctic, it is hard to decide without a picture. Next time you wash, try not to touch your hair at all until it's dry, and then take a picture.
I think tomm had hair like this, even the strongest curls/waves do not show up in hair until it has reached a certain length.

I'll admit that I finger combed it after just pressing a towel to my hair in an attempt to get as much moisture out as I could...

So your opinion is appreciated. I don't know if it is possible but I think my hair has just been trained this way. I say this because I often comb my wet hair on the sides behind my ears and because I often sleep on my back.

So I would appreciate your opinion and like I said I don't know if it is possible to train hair to act a certain way but I don't know...

I'd say, give it some more time. The bottom looks like it's promising to have some wave in the future, but you need a few more inches to judge for sure.

It looks a bit wavy, you will have a wonderful adventure ahead of you while you watch your hair to grow and see what it does :)

It's also very common people have different textures in their hair, and many straight haired people have wavy nape hair. I personally have almost straigh canopy (= top layer) and strong waves at the underlayer :D

My opinion about training the hair, based on only "I feel like", is that hair can't be trained. But I have read that in the 1930 and 1940 when a certain wave and curl patterns were in style on women, they "trained" their hair. But I would think they had to start over after each wash.
