View Full Version : Do you wear your hair down to work?
Tangles

PLEASE INDICATE HAIR TYPE ALONG WITH YOUR ANSWER (straight, wavy or curly).
I'm aware that most of you will put your hair up for work the majority of the time (easier, protects hair, is more 'professional' etc), but when you DO leave it down (or half down), what are the issues you face? Do co-workers or superiors make nice comments, complain or not notice at all?
I'm especially concerned about wavies/curlies as that type of hair is sometimes seen as less professional or at the least has to be covered in product to be considered so. That makes me REALLY ANGRY!

Oh, to start with (I'm a student, but have internships and such) I wear my hair down about half the time but often in clips, etc. And only if it's a very good hair day.

There's no plain "no" answer! I always have my hair up for work-- the health of my hair is important to me, and I don't want to damage it while I'm at work, which is not a very hair-safe place! Sometimes I have it down when I'm coming in or leaving, though.
I do occasionally get a comment when I've got my hair down coming in-- one woman asked if I had lightened my hair (it looks considerably lighter down, because it is smoother and looks more shiny and light), I've also had people say that my hair was getting long.
But my hair really isn't *that* long, so I haven't had many comments.
There is one woman who is a vendor for outdoor lawn and garden, who always has her really pretty hair up in a big beebutt bun. I've always wondered how long it is (it's definitely pretty thick, too) but i haven't asked. There's another woman in outside L&G who wears her hair in a banded pony-- it's classic length, with fairytale ends. I don't believe they get many comments about their hair, so I probably wouldn't, either.
I've never had any comments about the wavyness of my hair, but it's not exceptionally wavy unless I've just washed (I probably ought to change my hairtype to a flat 2A).

I sit right here transcribing medical reports, and my hair isn't at risk of much. If it's down, I bring half in front of each shoulder so that I'm not grinding it against the back of the chair. If I get busy with house work or yard work, up it goes.

There's no "no" answer! I do not wear my hair down at work. My boss asked me not to; she is worried about it getting caught in something.
(I work in an office and I don't personally think it would get caught in anything other than maybe the typewriter, but I like my job and my boss a lot so it's not a hard request to comply with)

Never! Not only am I worried that it would be untoward (I am always very dressed up for work and pride myself on looking classy), but I would worry about it getting caught in chairs, filing cabinets, the corner of L-shaped desks or any number of other things. I have never gotten anything but compliments from co-workers and then do on occasion ask me just how long it is, but even the nosiest of Nosy Nellies can't comment on it being "too long" or "Oh you should get some cute layers" or whatnot if it is up.

I'm a substitute teacher and never wear my hair down. It's always in some kind of a bun. I never wear a ponytail or a braid either. I don't want my hair to be an issue or run the risk of damage. I've never had a comment from one of the other teachers but usually don't have a lot of contact with them. I've had a couple of students ask about hair sticks and one girl asked how long it was once. I indicated with my hand and her eyes got wide and she said "cool". I get called an hour and 15 minutes before I have to be in school so I really don't have the option of washing my hair before I go. I never wear my hair down unless it's been washed that day, so it just about has to be bunned whether I want to or not.
My job before this one was at a quilt shop. Since I worked with scissors and rotary cutters every day I always had it in a bun then too.

Yikes, I messed up my answer. I answered yes thinking 'yes, I always wear it up' - sorry bout that!
I wear it up to work mainly because it's healthier for my hair and I am not concerned with being 'attractive' at work. I figure I'm there 35 - 55 hours per week, that's a good time to take good care of my hair and make sure the ends are babied. I do a lot of damp bunning and oiling the ends heavily then putting it up.
On a great, great occasion I wear it down. No one ever says anything derogatory about it, one of the board ops/dj (I am the office manager of 2 radio stations) loves long hair, his wife can't stand it if her hair gets below shoulder. He wants long hair himself but it starts to bug him after a while so he gets it cut off. He always says something nice about my hair, sometimes he acts like he really wants to pet it.
I'm wavy.

1a, almost classic length.
Yes I used to wear it down for work about once a month. Right now I am changing my job so I will keep it up until I feel secure..IF I will feel secure.
The comments at my last job were not good onces. Only one coworker commented about it. Saying how my hair is so very thin, and she always felt like grabbing it too. I did not know how to react since she always commented with a fake sweetness to it.
I think stringy very long 1a hair , looks really "freaky" to most people.

Never. Once in a blue moon someone will catch me taking it down long enough to put back up. I even was having a conversation with a coworker and a n00b coworker and the one girl told the n00b, "Yeah, and if you're really lucky you'll see Nightshade with her hair down."
Noob, "Oh, how long is it?"
Coworker, "Like, down to her ass!"

I work in a corporate training center and when I'm not teaching welding or plasma cutting (safety hazard) it's STILL up because most our students are guys in their 20s and it's not attention I want or need.
"HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR REDHEAD WITH LONG HAIR" gets tiresome quick.
Though the rare occasion I do take it down (for instance if I have a headache and I'm just hiding in my cube) the reactions when people do drop by are always worth it ;)

wow, this is interesting to me, my hair isn't as long as most of these here, but I wear it down 50% of the time. I am about 28 1/2 inches long, straight.
I have some people comment, Oh your hair is getting so long...only one lady recently said oh you should cut it. But no one else really comments on it. Oh, I am a commercial building manager, basically office work, meeting tenants, meeting vendors.

I wear my hair down to work on Fridays sometimes. How often depends mostly on whether it's hot out and how happy I feel with my hair at a given point in time.
My hair is mostly straight, with a small amount of wave. I'm guessing I'm a 1c or a 2a.

Wavy here!
As a student, no one really expects me to look all professional, really. I voted occasionally because it does happen, though it's been getting rarer and rarer. I don't think wearing my hair down or up has anything to do with waviness, as it usually waves pretty neatly, but it has a sort of soft look that I think is better suited for relaxed activities.
When I'm at work-work, at the uni computer support, I usually wear it up some way or another. I just feel it is more professional and I don't get annoyed with it falling in front of my eyes or anything like that. Others seem to agree with it being more professional - when I wear it up I don't get asked whether I work there or not. (Girl? In computer support? She must be here asking for help!;))

My hair is always up at work. Women can't have their hair below their collar according to our personal grooming standards. That means your hair has to be really short or long enough to put up. It's one of the reasons that I let my hair grow long. The longer it is the easier it is to put up.

My hair is always up for work. It isn't mandatory (how weird is that?) but I think of all of the things that it could get into  and it is always up. I actually work with a nurse who has waist length hair that she wears in a half up everyday in L&D. I just find that kind of gross. My nursing school was very strict about dress codes (length of nails, polish or no, jewlery, hair all of the way up not just in a braid, et) and it kind of got incorporated into how I view nursing.

I voted once or twice a month, usually when I can't get away with my greasy roots and misjudge that in the morning. I just put a kerchief on and leave the lenghts hanging loose. I have straight hair (1b), but at those times I'll have braid waves.

Generally I don't wear my hair down to work because it's easier not to - for the hair and me. However sometimes I do wear it down because I don't want to seem to formal. The dress code at work is a frustrating smart casual and I'm never sure I've got it right, so sometimes if I've come in too formal I'll put my hair down (which is only kept up with a hair stick or one pin) to make the appearance more casual.
Hair is straightish, depending how it was put up that day.

I wear it down to work probably one third to one half of the time. I get compliments when it's down but not when it's up. My hair is still pretty short though so I don't know if it would be different if my hair was waist length for example.

Wavy hair.
I never wear it down while working in the lab. I don't like the idea of having chemicals or other stuff in the hair, so it stays up. Always. I do have some colleagues who wear their hair down all the times, and I often see the hair touching dirty benches or stuff... not for me.
When I have lectures, I sometimes wear it down, but I find it is pretty uncomfortable, because it always gets stuck in between the chair and my back, so I also like to have it up. My colleagues love it when I wear it down, sometimes they ask if they can take it down and braid it, or just look at it.

Mostly wavy (I wet braid my curls)
I never wear my hair down for work - I may occasionally take it down for a while at work when noone else is in my office but it usually ends up in the way. I have to pull it over my shoulder so I don't sit on it, then it gets in the way of one arm and if it's pooled in my lap I have to be careful that I don't trap it between my thighs (even when braided).
Even though I'm sitting at a desk, it's just not practicable.

I never wear my hair down at work. For a start, on the journey to work it would get really messed up from being squashed in a train with about 3million other people. Then at work, I would have to make sure I don't sit on it, get it caught in my chair, get it stuck in the door....
Much easier to wear it up! And it's also quite elegant when its up too, which is always good for work.

In the last couple of years I have worn it down twice, almost.
Once was by accident, my bun fell out and it was too busy to put back up, and I was constantly flinging my hair back to try and keep it out of the way untill I had a chance to put it back up (which was only about (a long) half hour)
About a month ago I had twin french braids to the nape of my neck, and hanging loose in ponytails from there, so I will count that as having my hair down. It was that totally tangled after I finished work that it took me a good half to three quarters of an hour to detangle the knots at the nape of my neck.
My work requires hair longer than shoulder length to be tied back, and I find that it is a lot easier to have it in a bun, and a lot easier for the person working behind me as well, because I will end up hitting them with my hair if it is in a ponytail or a braid when I turn around, which gets very annoying for them.

I always wear my hair down at work. I have an office job and spend my days glooed to a computer screen so it doesn't get very damaged.
I catch a trainin to and from work, so should probably tie it back in the mornings. I usually have bigs plans for my hair, but when the morning comes i'm half asleep and just brush it. I sually tie it back before I leave work though.
Oh and my ahir type is 1b/M/ii

After reading all of these posts, I am sure I should be wearing my hair up more, but until I found the LHC, I didn't truly realize how I had been damaging my hair just with normal wear and tear and those VENT brushes.....horrors! I suppose I would like my hair in an updo more if I could lose 100 lbs:D SIGH!

I'm a university student, but I work all summers. I wear my hair down at work (an insurance company) very rarely, maybe once a month or so, when I have an especially good hair day ;) The reason I wear my hair up is that I want to protect it and don't like it to hang on my face.

my hair - almost straight, layered, armpit length.
my job - in the office, occasionally meeting big important foreign dudes.
I usually wear my hair down. because of the layers there are no updos that can be done properly, because things get very messy and spiky up there. also, wearing my hair down helps somewhat to hide the fact that I have 8 millimeter wide holes in my ears and you can see through them. office suits to cover up the tattoos, loose hair to hide the stretched lobes. of course this only applies in case of the big important foreign dudes, because my everyday colleagues couldn't care less (in fact, my usual work attire is combat boots, army pants, band t-shirts and what have you.)

No I don't wear it down at work, at all. It's a safety hazard to do so. I work in a Lab, hair long enough to get in your face is a hazard and anything long enough to be tied up, must be. I hardly wear my hair in a braid for this reason too. It's long enough to dip into something or be burnt by the bunsen burner by accident.
My hair is wavy.

Fairly straight hair. I usually go in with it down until the clients get there and then it immediately goes up. I work with high behavior autistic adults and learned my lesson the hard way when I got my hair pulled and it took 4 adult males to get the woman's hands out of my hair. I 1/2 filled a small waistbasket with the hair she pulled out.

I'm a graduate student/teaching associate, so I'm at "work" when I'm teaching or holding office hours. Since I tend to wear my hair down after washing, it's down about a 5th of the time, and if that falls on a teaching day, that falls on a teaching day.
I do find that it's unprofessional for my hair to fall in front of my face while teaching, so I'll often get the top bits off my face with a small jaw clip or barrette.
I also wear my hair up for presentations, as I'm sure I'd want it up when presenting at a conference and class presentations are practice for that.
Oh, and I'm a wavy/wurly.

I'm also a grad student/grad teaching associate. My hair is almost always entirely up or it's occasionally (once a month) half up. It's never completely down because I would spend half my time pushing it out of my face or behind my shoulder. I like to go for a really long time with it up and then wait and see how much attention I can get on the days I wear it down. Silly I know, but if people see something everyday they don't realize how lucky they are to see it!

My hair is wavy and I wear it loose at university once or twice a month. Sometimes more maybe. I don't go trough public transports with it loose tough, I always braid it. If I want to wear it loose, I just get it loose when I arrive uni in the morning...

I voted yes, occasionally, because even when I wear it down, while I'm actually working (with a patient) it's in a scrub cap so technically it's up. There's no way I'd work without a scrub cap, I'm a dental hygienist and the spray/aerosol of what's in folks mouths is not something I want in my hair. Eeeeewww.
My hair's just getting to BSL when curly/wavy, so I've got a way to go before it's LONG.
I'm starting to wonder if bunning or braiding would be a better choice, due to the length, such as it is, rubbing on the inside of the cap. Probably a non-issue, but it's crossed my mind.

I had to pick cheese, because I'm staying home right now. It's strange but I wear a bun at home 90% of the time, but never wear a bun outside, my hair is down most of the time, or up in a twist or roll. I don't know why I do this but buns seem right for home, but not for outings.
My hair is 2a/M/ii and very slippery, so tangles is not an issue.

I have nappy Afro-textured hair :) I had no problem wearing it out when it was ultra short but as it grows I wear it out less and less to work.
I always get nice compliments when it's out but people tend to want to touch which i'm not cool with.
I wear a scarf to cover my hair alot too, and can get away with this look on a regular day in corporate America.
My current regular hairstyle is a skinny braid in back with twist bangs. This style gets NO compliments and I LOVE it!!

I voted all the time. I work in an office, and there are three other longhairs here besides me. I wear a lot of half-ups because all the way down bugs me. My bosses admire my hair and are always telling me how pretty and shiny and long it is. Coworkers touch my hair, but that's ok with me. :)

I'm a wavy. In the winter it's almost always in a braid or it turns into a nest on the underside. shudder: Now during the summer it's about 50/50. Two days a week with the horses it's in a braid and the others it's normally down or just a tail. No one really cares if it's up or down in the office. Since joining LHC I have gotten some compliments on the new updo's I've been trying. :happydance: And today one of the guys noticed the new color! :applause I'm a henna head now. :cheer:

I'm a curly & most days I wear my hair down to work. I'm in an office & just sit all day so there's no danger of damage other than from me playing with the ends. I usually get a comment or two every day on how curly it is, how long (BSL right now) or how jealous they are etc.
About 1-2 times a week, when I don't wake up with 2nd day hair & have no time to redo, it goes up in a peacock, bun or twist. Working in the house or outside, it's always up.

I'm a 1b, and I voted once or twice a month.
It used to be down all the time, with the occasional braid. In pre-LHC times, that was in no small part due to the fact that I had no clue what else to do with it!
Now that I want to look older and more professional in the workplace, it's usually in a bun or a half-up. I wear it fully down every now and then.

Well, most of the time I'm working outside so I have my hair up to keep it out of the way. When I'm in the office, I dress and act professionally, so I don't really give a fig whether people think that short hair is more sophisticated or not.
When I'm in the office and wearing my hair down (only about once a week), I usually either leave it down completely or pull it into a half-up do. I get plenty of compliments, and actually there are quite a few long haired women (BSL or so) that wear their hair down as well.

I voted once or twice a month, but it's really more like once or twice a year. (If work=school)
Typically, no. It just doesn't work. What with hair eating chairs and people gawking, it's just easier to keep it up. But I do like to show it off now and then on a good hair day.

Once every six months, maybe? So I put "never." I work in a library, where I'm touching money, books, computers... STUFF. Then to touch my hair to push it back or something is... :disgust: It's in a bun, in a tucked braid, or at least in a braid down my back.

I had to put never. My fine hairs tend to wander all over the place, and I have enough problems with people not seeing me as a professional. I doubt putting my hair up is really helping with that a great deal, but I remain hopeful. Besides, it's been a good excuse to learn updos (and buy more hair toys).
The closest I've come to wearing it down was doing a half-down not too long ago, but it was still summer break for all the non-staff university people, so there wasn't anyone here and I sat in my office all day anyway.

My hair is straight, almost tailbone length.
I don't wear my hair down at work. I work at a jewelry store and I'm usually on my feet, moving around, serving customers. My hair has to be out of the way, which means bunned or braided - no half ups. I tried to leave my hair down once or twice but noticed quickly it wasn't working, and I don't have time to move hair out of the way when it's busy at the shop. For example I managed to get a lot of hair in one customer's watch when changing the battery (which is quite bad) and almost cut a strand of hair when cutting gift wrapping paper.

I wear mine down all the time. It's straight and blonde and fairly thin, but at my last job I had a pink streak in it. I didn't ask my boss, I just went ahead and did it, and luckily she said it looked nice. (I worked in an upmarket-ish clothing shop).
Everyone else wore their hair up or with pins to keep it neat. I look ridiculous with my hair up, so it's eternally down. I think I got away with it because it was 'the weirdo' and any eccentricities of appearance were tolerated because I brought in money with my Epic Polite Skillz.
Funnily enough, I didn't get in trouble for my hair, but I did get in trouble for wearing too much black.

I am a student and don't have a job. I also only go to school for one class, and to another school for one class. But other than that I homeschool.
I RARELY wear my hair down. Like, I can count on my hands the number of times I've worn my hair down in the last two years.
HowEVer, I often braid it, so it is laying down my back, although not loose. I also sometimes ponytail it when I can't get anything else to work.
Also, if I wear it down in the morning, I often ponytail it at lunch and don't let it back out. That would just look weird.
I'm a curly. (If I let it dry down, it's difficult to detangle and braid in the evening, and I have to was it again sooner.)
ETA: I often leave it down for a couple of hours in the evening at home, after it's been up all day.

My hair is usually contained in some way at work so that it stays out of my way. I do still wear it down on occasion, but usually that happens on a day where I know later after work I'll want it down. (I can't go back and forth)
When it is down, it just tends to get caught on things or fall in my face when I work, and that's a pain I don't like to deal with if I don't have to.
However, when I was in school, I'd wear my hair down all the time to class and nothing ever happened or was an issue. Just somehow when I started my "real job" all these problems started cropping up with it.

I voted that I never wear it down, because I'm not allowed to. I can't stand it in my way, anyway. Outside of work, I wear it up a lot. I especially like it up for errands with my kids--I hate when it gets caught in things.
I am straight, and I'm almost at waist. My hair's very thick, though, so I can't do as many updos as most at waist. I can do cinnabuns, french twist/bun hybrid, and figure eights (sometimes) I pull my hair down for break, b/c it's easy to put back up. On the rare occasion I do a braid or ponytail, I get more attention from men than I like. (I work with the public.) Big thanks to those of you who are nurses who wear your hair up. I think it shows respect for your calling. And it's less icky!!

I voted never; my previous job was in a lab, and hair falling into a big tub of E.coli or B.burgdorferi (Lyme disease) is not a pretty thought.
For my new "job" (medical school), I'm planning to keep my hair up at all times, even when not with patients, in an attempt to stave off the "Why don't you donate your hair to [insert heart-wringing charity]?" questions sure to come from my well-intentioned fellow students.;) (My hair looks shorter in a bun.)

I'm a wurly, and wear my hair down at work all the time. I have plans to change that, though. My layers just haven't grown out enough for an updo without having a lot of it "escape." Once it's long enough to all behave itself when pulled back, I'll be investing in Ficcares and Ketylos to keep it up at work. I'm a librarian and my hair isn't all that at risk when I'm working, I just like updos and long for the day I can achieve one.

I'm not allowed to wear it down at work - it's out of uniform. But my supervisor saw it down once outside of work (before I cut it the last time, it was about BSL I'd guess) and he sort of doubletaked and asked "I didn't know there was so much of it! Where does it all go?" Lol
Generally, if I'm in a situation where I don't have to wear it up, then I don't. That'll probably change as it gets longer. Right now the layers are too short to even get a decent braid out of it, so most of the fun updos aren't possible anyway.

Depending on the weather, I range 2A-2C. Its a bit wild for wearing down at work. I am often in a stockroom where my hair has gotten caught on merchandise, fixtures, and the friggin fire extinguisher (untangling THAT was NOT fun). Its an inner battle for me. I prefer wearing it down. I love enjoying the length. But not at work :(. It is just another sacrifice I make participating in the construct. I just remind myself constantly its just 40 hours out of my life. The rest is mine ;)

I voted for yes, once or twice a month... but actually it´s not really that often. More like once every two or three months. And then it´s not that I really wear it down for the sake of wearing it down  Once in a blue moon it happens that I wash in the morning and it´s not dry enough to comb and put up, so it´s to dry my hair at work. I should consider to warn myself about it :p that´s not professional.
My hair is as straight as hair can be.
I think the wearing up or down for work depends more on the length and workplace than what hairtype it is.

Hardy har har! I had to wear cheese because I rarely ever wear my hair down, let alone when I'm working. It's all up all the time! It's easier for me in the long run since it minimizes what I have to contend with when braiding it before bed.

I have straight hair. I usually wear it up, just because its fast and easy... and before LHC I would blow dry/straighten in order to wear my hair down, because otherwise it would be all frizzy.
Today I just have braid waves and it looks really nice down.
I just like to do something quick and easy, because I have to be at work at 7 am and I am NOT a morning person!

My hair is uber straight. I keep it up most of the time so it does not end up with ear wax or other objectionable particulates in it. i mostly only wear it down when it has not had a chance to dry for a lengthy period of time, as my hair is rarely dry when I keep it up. Wearing it up helps keep my patients from thinking I am there for take your daughter to work day though.

When my hair was longer I wore it down quite often because having it up in a ponytail gave me headaches. Since I cut it to shoulder length however I've only let it down once or twice, and that was only for a brief time.
I have fine, straight hair. I actually get lots of compliments on my hair (silly people), but more than that, until I take it down no one really notices that its about 7 inches shorter. I get chastised by 3/4 of the people I work with for getting it so short. Eh, it was that or hate it and I have enough self esteem issues to deal with lol.

Wavy, and occasionally. (Used to be "all the time" until I started trying to actively grow it.)
My office is very casual, so I can wear it down without issue. I can even wear it wet to work without it being a big deal. So long as the rest of me looks professional, I still get taken seriously.

Since LHC I wear it up. I use to wear it down all of the time but then I blow dried and curled it every morning. Now I cant imagine wearing it down. I tried the other morning. I had set it before bed and I had really awesome curls that I wanted to show off but I had to put it up after a couple of hours. It just felt like it was into everything and I just felt too weird having it down. I dont know how it will go when winter is here. This will be my first winter with updos so I dont know how I will deal with the cold yet. I imagine I will still wear it up with lots of scarves and stuff.

I almost never wear my hair up at work. When I leave home, I put it up in a Ficcare or loosely in a soft elastic/scrunchy for my bike ride to work, which is about 35 minutes. Then, when I am parking my bike, I take my hair down and shake it, and wear it down while working.
Because I teach early mornings and often wear my glasses, I don't want to put my hair up - the combination of severe features, glasses, and an updo is aging and unflattering in the extreme on me. Unless I smile, which is rare, I look mean already - so I try to soften this.
Also, my hair does not do well in updos - it is too many lengths to stay in them tidily, and the "messy wisps around my face" does not look soft or romantic on me - it looks dumpy and sloppy and un-pulled-together.
My best "professional" hair is down and slightly dirty, so the ends are nicely waved, or slicked back with brush, oil, and gel into a sleek French twist - my "emergency" or "job interview" 'do. But I look and feel best with my hair down or half up.
Once last Spring I tried to do a special new updo for an important meeting, and when I took pics of the back it looked TERRIBLE (these pics are in my profile) but I was running late and did not have time to do anything else with my hair.

I have 2c hair.
And I work from home at the moment, so this doesn't really apply, but when I worked in an office, I wore my hair up all the time unless it was damp (yeah I know, even more unprofessional, right? Nobody ever said anything bad though! I only ever got compliments, and, um, I've never cared in the slightest about looking unprofessional. :p) - I hate wearing my hair up when it's damp because it just makes it stiff and kinky and nasty, and I get major frizzies around the front if I do that.
But no I never had any bad comments.
I didn't like wearing it down if I could help it because when it's down I'm very conscious of it (insecure, even) and it's distracting.

I wear my hair in all kinds of different ways to the office. Down, up, braids, you name it. I very rarely receive any comments on it, but when I have they have always been positive. I work as a VP in one of the largest US banks (what a time to be in that industry, whew). There are two other notable longhairs in my group, one of which is my boss (a managing director who reports directly to one of the C-level officers). His hair is shoulder length and I would classify it as 3a and he usually wears it down.

And yeah when I let it down it's just to put it back up. My hair is not uber long so its not a big deal even though my friends tell me that I should leave it down more often because it looks nice. I've never been a hair down kinda gal anyways though, it's way too hot.

I never wear my hair down to work. Ok I´m a student and I´m jobbing but I feel inscure with my hair down, it´s just impractical. I don´t really like it when people stare at me in everyday life.
Another point ist that I like my hair when it is in a neat updo or a braid.
For a few occasions I wear my hair down, mostly when I go out with my boyfriend or my friends. I feel safer.. that might sound weird to some.

Personally, I only put my hair up on occasion; like when I have let it get way too dirty or if we have freight to unload, because at that point my hair is just in my face too much.
But it might be unfair as a comparison because my hair is just past my shoulders and layered.

I typically wear my hair out, occasionally I will put it in a barrette. It is still rather short, so I am not able to bun or braid it. Often I feel juvenile putting it in a ponytail, definitely not professional! We have a very casual office attire, and often I dress on the less casual side, so I figure my hair can offset that.

Oh, I voted wrong. I meant to say Yes, I wear it up all the time. I am a homemaker (domestic engineer?). Does that count as my place of work? It would really get in the way of taking care of chores and children. Plus cooking with my hair down grosses me out. Finding one of my really long hairs in his food grosses my husband out, so it stays up almost all day long.
My sister in law had a weird thing happen. Her boss called her in and told her she looked unprofessional and insisted she use hairspray. He was a jerk anyway. Now she's a stay-at-home mom too. No complaints from baby!

My hair is below my shoulders and maybe 3-4 inches away from BSL now. I work in a corporate profesional office setting (the attire is pretty conservative, I usually wear tailored pant suits.)
I wear my hair up for a couple reasons - one, the conservative atmosphere, two, it takes a lot of work, at this stage of my hair health, to get my hair voluminous enough to look good fully down. I don't have the time.
In addition, my hair is fiery henna red, and it attracts enough attention when it's up. I DID wear it down (well, gathered at nape) this Friday and got a couple positive comments from coworkers, so maybe I have more leeway than I think.
My hair is the only red hair I've seen in the entire downtown city area where I work - I was surprised at this when I started a few months ago.
The women's styles I've seen fall within three - the most popular for all ages but mostly 20-somethings is the "posh" haircut - brown or dark blonde, severely straight, angled bob. The other is one many of the younger women wear, straightened shoulder-length layered sleek styles. And then there is the older woman professional's short bob, or some variation of it, usually natural brown or blonde with some graying.
So...nobody else I work with wears their hair in updos, either...I use ficcares and some goody clips, and some hair forks, but I don't bling it up because I'm trying to not draw more attention to my head, LOL. :eyebrows:

I voted "with cheese". My hair is BSL and wavy. The reason I wear it up is that there are a lot of hazards in the job environment (machinery, flames, sparks, liquid metal + it's dusty and dirty) The hair is required to be contained while in the production areas. Once I have made the updo I keep it even if I work by the computer most of the day. I work in an almost-all-male environment too, and I don't need that kind of attention while at work, I am already standing out beeing taller than most the men and a natural blonde and pale person in an area where almost all the people have dark brown-black hair. The women who works in the office area do wear their hair down, but they have shoulder length or shorter hair, which is very styled an coloured.
I don't really mind having my hair up all the time at work. That way it feels really nice at the end of the day to take tha hair down on the way out of the gates:)

I wear my hair down about 90% of the time, though I have recently begun to try new updos, so I may be increasing the amount of time I wear it up.
I am a professional, a family practice doctor, so a professional appearance is important. However, our practice is fairly laid-back when it comes to dress code and general demeanor here. Nobody is extremely formal. I'd say it's the equivalent of "business casual/Friday casual" around here every day. One of my coworkers even wears sandals w/o socks (and I don't mean dress heels/sandals, I mean the kind you'd knock around at the park in). For the men, it's slacks, a shirt and tie (no jacket required). For the women, slacks or skirts with a blouse, jacket or nice sweater. I never wear a suit, but my typical outfit is a jacket or cardigan with a pretty skirt or nice trousers. I wear heels some of the time and flats more often.
I do try to keep my general appearance neat and wear clothes that look mature and professional, even if it's not business-type professional dress. I follow the standards of our group, possibly being a little more dressy than average (the addition of the jackets and heels, which most don't wear). I think this balances out the long, loose hair. I always wear jewelry, so my look is polished and although my clothes aren't super dressy, I make sure they look put-together and mature and generally professional. If I were to wear something I thought looked a bit less professional, I might be more inclined to put up my hair to pull off a more suitable overall look. I do tie it back when I do procedures like suturing or other times when it might get in the way. Usually I just give it a twist and tuck the tail under my jacket.
Oh, I forgot to add that my hair is thick and wavy and about tailbone length. I used to always shower in the morning and so wearing my hair loose was my default style b/c it had to hang out loose all morning to dry. Then I'd sometimes put it up in mid to late day. Now I've taken to washing less often than every day and often shower in the evening, so I have the option of wearing my hair up more often and I do.
I think it depends on the work environment, the job requirements and your personal taste.

I am an accountant (not a public accountant but work for a private company) and I wear my hair down (it's mostly 3a) quite a bit especially in the winter months. In the summer it's up most of the time. I have never had anything but good comments, never any negative. If I have a board meeting then I usually put it in an updo or low pony with a Flexi 8 or something just because yes it does look a bit more professional not just because it's curly though, I think that would go for any type of hair. There are other women at work who also have longer hair who wear it down and that makes me feel more comfortable too I guess.

Never wear my hair down at work. I'm 1c/2a, so slightly wavy.
Really, hairtype has little to do with it. Work for me is in a laboratory, and my hair would be in the way. Occasionally I'll take it down for a few minutes if I'm at a computer, but my hair really has to be back (ponytail might work, but it tends to go in buns or braids) if I'm doing anything. "Anything" tends to involve flames, chemicals, or rather smelly cultures.

It wouldn't be a problem to wear it down since I mostly sit it a chair, but I like to keep it up. I want to protect it, and also I work with men and I don't want to look pretty.

When I worked as a horseback riding instructor I had it down a lot, and I loved it. I usually wore my hat or a helmet, and the hair kept my neck and back from getting too much sun.

Well I don't work outside of the home, as I am a fiber artist and SAHM, but I do wear my hair down more often than I should when I go out mainly because I am self-conscious about how full and fat my face is and my hair masks it very well. But I love updos and part of my weight loss reasoning is so I feel more comfortable showing off my face :)

I've always worn it down to the office until now when I'm starting to grow it out for real and changing the way I take care of it.
I'm also feeling a little better about how my face looks with an updo these days and have gotten some compliments on having it up. Of course some of that may be from how "just rolled over and got out of bed" my hair can look even with styling products and washing every day.
With the horses and when I used to teach and train it was always always up, no matter what length. Having it blow around and get in the way (not to mention the dirt and dust) is just no fun.

Ack, I messed up my answer too. I thought it was a 'do you wear your hair UP to work' poll. Sigh, I'm tired.
I always wear my hair in a bun or braid to work. Usually a bun as a braid gets fuzzy easily after a Tube journey and walk from the station. Usually held with a Ficcare too, though occasionally I wear a fork.
I have straight hair which is very fragile from about the ears down. I try not to wear it loose at all at the moment, although it's my partner's favourite 'look'.

I answered "yes, all the time", but really, it's most of the time... It depends how my hair behaves. Sometimes, I can go two weeks straight wearing it down, and then one day it looks stupid, so I put it up. But again, my hair is not very long yet (BSL), so as it grows longer, I might start wearing it up more. :)
And I work in videogames, so no one cares if my hair is down or up... you can go to work in sweats if you want to. ;)

I say no. And no again. I used to, but when it got to my shoulders it started tangling with the least amount of provocation. Plus I work in a grocery store and the customers don't like it when you're always messing around with your hair. As for manager comments, nothing either way, but I have noticed that they treat me a little more professionally when I wear my hair up. A sign of responsibility perhaps?

Mine's wavey, I work in a cubicle, and mine's at least partially down most of the time. I have no negative comments from wearing it down. I've had the reverse, in fact, since wearing it up makes me look a lot older! I don't like having my hair over my ears, though. I just went through a couple weeks of bearing it, but for the last several days it's been clipped up on the sides. I just couldn't take it any more. When I'm really working hard, or getting fussed at things, I pull it all up into a ponytail or twist. I love the feeling of pulling my hair all the way up and out of the way.

I never wear my hair down at work or in public. The few times I tried, it was always in the way, felt hot on the neck and I worried more about my hair getting caught or damaged than about the task at hand. I like how my hair feels up in a bun and when I take it down it is for me to enjoy alone.

2c/3a here - so, sometimes it's wavy and sometimes it's curly. I wear my hair down about once a week to work. I'm wearing it down today because I'm wearing a really nice new green sweater and it looks awesome against my red hair so I just had to

Right now my hair is only armpit length so It's not an issue, but even when I had waist length hair I would wear it down. My hair is only slightly wavy but i often put it in (non heated) curlers or braid-waves and I always make sure that if I do wear it down it looks styled and professional. If my hair were any longer than waist length I wouldn't wear it down at work.

Sometimes I do depending on we are doing. 99% of time Its at least in a pony tail or briad. I work in lab with chemicals and flames... so ya know I don't need that in my hair.
I do let it out if we aren't busy that day and doing more clerical work.
Its wavy/straight, and classic length.

I am wavey.
I occasionally (maybe once in 3 or 4 months) wear my hair down for work, but I find it distracting and so do people in the office. It is safer in a bun, so that is where it goes for work - and it gives me chance to wear my hair toys!

I have straight hair with a hint of wave to it.
I work in an office and don't really need to keep my hair up for any professional reasons.
Normally it's in a braid or a bun or a half-up, partly because I want to protect it from everyday wear, partly because I like to change my 'do sometimes.
I have it down occasionally, maybe once a week or so.
I rarely get comments from my co-workers. A few had said some nice things, but my hair isn't that spectacular, really.

1c, waist length.
I usually go in with it down, and end up pinning it up mid-shift. If I wear it down all day, I end up brushing on my breaks, so I don't end up with a "kitchen". I keep chopsticks in all the pen cups in my store, so whenever I've had it, up it goes.
Lately, though, I've given up, and just wear it up. It just feels more professional, and I don't feel obligated to beat it with a blowfryer or flatiron.
No derogatory remarks.... although sometimes a couple of the girls will touch it if it's down, but we're a close-knit bunch, so it doesn't bother me.

My hair is straight, and almost waist length. I wear it down perhaps 60% of the time, it doesn't cause any problems but I like varying my hairstyle. I usually either wear it loose, in a ponytail, in a bun or french braided(or some variation of those styles).
When I wear my hair down, people sometimes comment on it, but that's usually only positive :)

I have no choice my hair can not be up or even clipped back. Its a job uniform to leave it loose at all times. The only thing I don't like about this job is my hair is not as nice as it use to be because of it. i am a hair chameleon, i can't stick with a single style for more than a few hours at a time unless i am 1) really distracted/busy or 2) i really, really love it and want to show it off.
i'm just now at waist though, and i sit in a desk all day, so i have never really thought about whether it's viewed as "unprofessional" or not. probably my several (visible) tattoos, 0g ears, and nostril piercing already put me in that category--so *&#% it. :P

 I have straight hair with a slight wave to it - not a good wave. I have a tender scalp so putting my hair up hurts.

Barely wavy.
I'm another one who works in a lab, so I keep it up and out of the way of reagents and sterile tubes. I wear my hair up 98% of the time. I wear my hair down once every two months for 3 days max. My hair is very curly 3c/4a, but I only wear it down when I flat iron. I am transitioning from relaxed hair, and it would look kind of weird with curly hair at the root and straight hair on the ends. :)

My hair usually starts out down but then goes up depending on what I'm doing. I do a lot of lab work, and I prefer to have my hair out of my way when I'm doing that. If I'm sitting in front of a computer doing research I tend to use it for thermal regulation :) it's usually down lately as my office has been somewhat chilly, I'm sure it'll go back up in the summer.

I have wavy hair and almost always keep it in a plain braid at work. I work in an office, so wear and tear on the braid isn't too bad. Up-dos are pretty much out of the question on workdays for me, but not because of anything office-politics related :o I'm just not a morning person at all and a plain braid is all I can manage when still half-asleep and not have it look like a disaster.

I haven't worn it down in public since it passed shoulder. Last week I went to an office party where I was going to have it down, but at the last moment, grabbed an ouchless and put it in a high pony.
I dunno, I feel self-conscious about it or something.
Oh, and mine is wavy. And very blond. Yes, that might be it-- it kind of has that "bedroom tresses" look when down. And I don't want to project anything that could be mistaken for a "sexy" vibe when just out running errands, eating lunch, etc..

I'm currently a student only, however when I was working fulltime at an Alzheimer's facility I ALWAYS had it up... we dealt with a lot of, well, body fluids. Plus I didn't like having it swinging around when we were serving meals, and some of my residents did get violent once in awhile so I didn't want my hair to be an easy grab.
Right now I take Chemistry classes and so I just wear my hair up all day for that. The one class that I do have that doesn't require any sudden movements or fire I will wear it down every so often.
And when I earn my Nursing degree, I absolutely will wear it up always. It's out of respect for my patients not to have hair in their face.

I am a mental health therapist at a community mental health center working with suicidal people and I wear my hair down only when it's still damp from morning washing. I try to wash at night but sometimes I'm too tired. Mostly, I wear it up with hair toys because they amuse my clients and help me work with them toward one of our goals, which is that there is no normal they should be continuously comparing themselves to. If I'm willing to look kooky with my hair ornaments (and they are kooky) on a daily basis and I function in society, maybe their differences from others are blessings and not curses. The admin at work doesn't care, I did "start slow" with kooky hair ornaments and work my way up to the truly absurd slowly.

The comments I get are pretty universally positive or just shocked. I've worn it in a braid so much in the last year that when I have worn it down for a short time (usually waiting for it to dry), people have been very surprised.
I've actually considered wearing my hair up 100% of the time at work for about six months and then unfurling it in the newsroom just for the hell of it. But nah, it's not worth it. I'd rather allow myself to come into work with wet hair at the beginning of the day sometimes. :p

I'm especially concerned about wavies/curlies as that type of hair is sometimes seen as less professional or at the least has to be covered in product to be considered so. That makes me REALLY ANGRY! Funny, isn't that? My boss has her own personal dress code: "Well groomed." She hasn't yet mentioned my hair, but I have received The Look when it's down. (I get the same look when I am shoe-less in the office... I love socks-only in winter...)
Not because of her, but to protect my hair, I wear it up almost all the time. I voted once or twice a month down, because that's about right, but that also includes braids.
My hair type is in my profile -- thick and curly/wavy, fine and flyaway. Lots of it to get in the way, so I concentrate better with it tied up.
And, when I leave it down (other than from the boss), I get either no reaction or positive reactions. Most people are surprised how long it is (tailbone wet, or mid-back dry), so that's the most frequent comment: "It's long!."
But no reaction at all is the most common. I've noticed hair-comments tend to come to co-workers who make radical changes -- dyes, cuts, etc. -- and as I'm not on that path, it doesn't bother me.
I had to put never. My fine hairs tend to wander all over the place, and I have enough problems with people not seeing me as a professional. Agreed! I'm a senior manager, but I know I don't have a strong physical presence. (I am short, distracted, and not at all into playing the ego game, so I have to concentrate to BE NOTICED.)
I've actually "tested" colleagues' reactions when I am advising them: Hair down= more likely to ignore my advice; hair up = more likely to focus and follow.
Weird. But as updos are good for my hair, that works for me, too.
(Ah, but I love wearing my hair long and loose on my creative days...)

I'm required to have my hair "restrained away from the face". I always used to wear a low pony tail. Now I'm braiding on the side for a default and trying to learn more buns and such. I work in customer service in a grocery store, mostly selling lottery tickets, and such, and the one time I wore my hair in a high ponytail, I got so many comments, (as well as catcalls and whistles,) that I couldn't take it for very long. My long hair is something very private to me, and seperate from my work life. I felt almost naked with it down like that, even if it was in a pony tail. It seemed like people were treating me a certain way because of my hair, and not always professionally...
That and I also got my hair caught in the cash office door, which locks automatically behind you, and stepped away from it, which really hurt my scalp. So, I always wear my hair in a bun or a knot at work.

Updos 99% of the time. Braids, hardly ever; down once (half up with a barrette), and never again. When I wore it down, none of my coworkers said anything - didn't even notice. They're all guys, anyway.
My hair gets tangled/matted really easily (I think I'm labelled 2A or 1C) and even with SMTs it just tangles up like crazy, plus I look more professional with an updo, and I've got it down to a 5-second science that stays all day, so I have no reason to wear it down at work.

Occasionally I'll wear a regular ponytail or a long braid. I consider that close enough to "down" to be down. Anything that gets scrubbed against the back of my office chair or sucked into CPU fans is down!

No, I'm a wavy girl and though some ladies at my work do wear their hair down I'd rather not as you never know what will get into it (blood, poop, MRSA, VRE etc.) so into a bun it goes.

I don't wear my hair down at work. I'm afraid I'll damage it or drag it through the dirt and debris on the counter. However, I do occasionally have it down when I enter or leave and I usually have favorable comments from co-workers. I think the worst comment I ever had at work was one guy asking why I would want long hair.
My hair is normally wavy/curly but when taken down from my usual pencil bun it looks mostly straight.

I never wear my hair down because it gets in the way if I do. (I have 2a/b hair)

I've actually "tested" colleagues' reactions when I am advising them: Hair down= more likely to ignore my advice; hair up = more likely to focus and follow.
Weird. But as updos are good for my hair, that works for me, too.
I noticed a similar reaction with the customers at my old job, back when I wasn't concerned about my hair and wore it down more. When my hair was down women tended to look down their noses at me and be really snippy while the men tended to be really patronizing as if I were a child or had the intelligence of the sandwich they were ordering. It was irritating and noticeable enough that I started wearing my hair up all the time there.

In school: Never
In college: Never
In the shop: Never
In the model making workshop: Never
In the office: Never
In uni: Since there's a trend here, im going to guess never
I have mostly straight hair; I'm fairly sure the waves it has are because of the buns it's always in.
Practicality was a major reason. The shop and the office were the only places where I wasn't around machinery or paint (or probably headlice in school) and I needed to be professional for customers/clients. I don't think loose hair is unprofessional but I think getting caught in the act of re-doing it is!

I never wear my hair loose at work, it is always at the very least in a pony tail or braid. The big issue, apart from the fact that it gets in my face when I talk, is that I really don't want it to catch fire ;)
I work in a cathedral, there are candles everywhere. A friend of mine whose hair is getting close to BSL now, suddenly discovered why the longhairs at work put their hair up, when she leaned over to blow out a candle, and singed a lock off... Eep!

I have very straight, looks-like-it's-had-the-life-flatironed-out-of-it hair, which makes it easier to get away with wearing it down, methinks (^(oo)^)

I would, if I could, but I work in a bakery, so I have to put it up
If I worked in an office or something, I would probably always wear it down. Or in a simple ponytail.
My hair is wavy.

I never wear my hair down at work. Sometimes I wear it down TO work, when it's still damp to let it dry during the drive. The 2 reasons I wear my hair up at work are 1.) I work at a motel and I generally try to make myself look less attractive (don't wear make up, wear severe hairstyles and clothing) so I don't get bothered by men when I'm working alone here at night. 2.) All of my coworkers are men (I'm the only female employee), they are from India and also Muslim. I don't exactly feel pressure to dress a certain way, but out of respect I try to keep my hair up and dress modestly. In any case, this is how I NORAMALLY dress, at work or at school. I only wear my hair down at home, and usually only when it's wet from the shower. I just like to keep it out of the way.
For reference I have very thin mostly strait waist length hair.

Yes, if I don't have to do something like lifting stuff and going back and forth :) I allways have an elastic on my wrist or a stick in my purse in case I need to put my hair up.

Unless your hair is perfectly silky and straight... or at least it's obvious that you TRIED to straighten it, it is often considered messy. I even had a coworker AND a boss at one job ask me to put up my hair because it looked unprofessional.

I'm going to substitute work with school and say I wear it up about 50% of the time. It's often a case of me not having elastics, pins, or stick-like objects when I need them. I really should wear it up more because it gets messy and I get really bad splits.
I don't generally get my hair caught on things, but it does get into food and such or all over stuff I'm working on.
My hair is about waist length and wavy.

My hair is in between curly and wavy...don't know what that would be called and it gets closer to wavy the longer I go without a wash, but I did leave it half down a lot of the time while I was at work, I worked at a restaurant as a Hostess and people would compliment it all the time, especially after I started giving my hair some much needed oil treatments. But yes, on occasion, I did get the mean people who told me that it was very unprofessional to wear my hair down.
But I did it anyways.

I can easily wear my hair down at work because I'm in a cube facing a computer all day. I also bring it forward so it doesn't get trapped in my chair. I've been wearing it down a lot lately because I'm learning how to style the texture I have so that it looks decent when it's down. I tend to want to put it up during some part of the day, so I try to have at least one hair toy/tool around. Vice versa, if my hair is up, I'll probably take it down at some point. Unless it's in a braid or something complex. Being seated all day, I need things to fidget with. Hair helps. I've also been known to use a pencil as a stick without thinking anything of it...my boss was LOL at me. At another job where I was up and down all day (sitting, standing, copying, filing, carrying things...) my hair was up 90% of the time and that worked perfectly for all the activity. That's one great thing about long hair: it's versatile enough to work with practically any job.

I wear it down perhaps once a week (the morning after it's been freshly washed) but that's about it. I'm not the only long-haired person in my office so it doesn't get any attention from anyone, really, and since work involves driving a keyboard all day there's really no hazard involved in leaving it down, but i mostly put it up because when it's down, it tangles. Every once in a while, but it's usually in my go-to bun or something slick and polished. If I wear it down I have to ensure for an hour that it's presentable. :p

I have to wear it up everyday at work. I work in an environment where you don't really want to have your hair getting in what you are trying to do!
That kind of just extended to the weekends too... I just find my hair so much easier to manage when its up and out of the way. So I wear my hair up everyday. And always at work!

I still haven't gotten the hang of updos. I find myself permanently in suspense, waiting for it to fall out.
I wore it down but tied back for waiting tables, and down all the time for lessons at the horse barn. It was pretty much always down at school and still is for at the barn.
I'm at classic (does it say 37" ish?) now. I got used to having it down even when I was at near-knee length.

No... 99.9% the time. The only time I'll leave it down is if I'm presenting in lab meeting/to our collaborators, and am not going into lab. If I'm in the lab its either in a ponytail/braids/bun/on rare occasion a 3/4 up in a clip, I don't want it dangling in my face, and as a wavy with thick hair it always seems to want to be in my face.

At my internship I rarely wore my hair down. My hair is thick and wavy/curly.
The reason why is because I didn't want to draw attention to myself, I don't feel I am pretty enough to wear it down a lot, and it makes me break out.

My hair is slightly wavy and I never ever wear it down at work. The only times my hair is down on a regular basis, is when I come out of the shower, in the morning (before putting it up) and in the evening (after taking out my updo and before braiding for the night). Otherwise rarely I leave it down. DBF doesn't like it that I put my hair up all the time, he likes it a lot down. But it's my hair remember ;)

I very rarely wear my hair down at work. Usually I have it up in a pony tail or some kind of messy bun (until it's long enough to do real buns :D). I work in a department store, and if I leave my hair down I either get to warm, or it gets really staticy, since the air is pretty dry in the store, and a lot of the clothing fabrics combined with the carpet make for big static!

I'm a CAN, but the place I am currently employed doesn't require that we wear our hair up. I do occasionally, though, if I have time to do something with it. My hair is curly, so I find it hard to find a style to put my hair inn that it will stay.

I always wear my hair down to work because it's too short to tie back without having to tuck the front bits behind my ears, which I hate doing. When my hair is long enough for the front pieces to reach the tie at the nape of my neck without needing tucked, so that I can have my ears covered, I'll probably have it tied back the majority of the time, and reserve wearing it down for going out.

I voted yes, all the time, but it's probably more like 60% with my hair in a halfup/halfdown and completely open about 10% of the time. My hair is wavy, sometimes wurly. My manager (who has long hair herself) likes my hair but I do get self conscious about it sometimes.
It's interesting though, that I don't mind coming to work with hair open, but i hate going shopping with it completely open. :s

My hair is wavy. Right now I'm doing an updo challenge, but outside of that I usually wear my hair down about once per week.
When I do wear it down, The only issue I really have is tangling. I keep a small wood pin brush in my purse, and I use it a few times a day to keep my hair from knotting. I work in a business-casual setting. No one really notices how I wear my hair, whether down or up, unless I'm wearing a very unusual hair toy or something. Even then, I might get a "I like your hair thing" comment, and that would be it. No one has ever reacted negatively when I wear it down.

Hair is fine, thin, and wurly. Between waist and hip length.
I do not ever wear my hair down to work. I work at a used bookstore, and one of my regular jobs is buying books from the public. Some of those book buys have had... gross things in them*, not to mention extreme dust levels and not wanting to catch my hair on things. As well, bookstores are EXTREMELY dry environments. Not very hair friendly!
That said, there is absolutely no pressure to wear my hair up or down at my job, and a few other longhairs, including two male employees, wear their hair down regularly on the job.
*gross things may or may not include bugs, animal feces, dead mice and used condoms.

When I joined LHC I always wore my hair up in a bun at work. I've had a relapse of 2 years when I always wore it down... Now I have mended my ways and am wearing it up again. I'm getting comments from co-workers if I've had a bad coloring or cut... idiots...

I'm a sub, too! And I have the opposite experience. I wear my hair down more often than not without incident, but the ONE time I did a braid bun secured with hairsticks this one girl made a huge deal out of it and I couldn't tell if she was truly impressed or making fun of me. And then I wore a french twist one day and a teacher I'm chummy with complimented me on it. So I guess I get way more comments on my updos than I do when it's down.
