Are the 1a/M/ii -type hairtypes just an LHC thing, or are they part of some 'universal hairtyping system'?

It started outside of here by a man named Andre Walker in his book Andre Talks Hair (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0684824566/ref=ase_longhairvideoA/104-6236357-3217548?v=glance&s=books), and Fia fine-tuned his system, making it more comprehensive and detailed. Good that someone has a better memory than I! I read the book about a month ago and didn't remember the name of the author OR the title. I thought the book was interesting to read though. Fun to read what an expert in the field says.:)
I didn't know he was the one to start the system.
