I asked this on another hair forum, so my apologies if you've already seen it!

Do you usually use shampoo and conditioner that are supposed to go together, or do you mix and match? Do you think it's better to use products that are formulated to go together, or does it not really matter?

I ask because I don't like sulfates, but the shampoos that go with the conditioners I like all contain sulfates. Right now I'm using Shikai Everyday shampoo or Shea Moisture shampoo followed by either Pantene or Garnier conditioners. I get great results, and I clarify about once a month. So, it shouldn't be a problem, right?

Definitely not. Salons always insist that things work best as a system, but I don't believe it. I went to cosmetology school and I don't believe it!

It would be nice to use matching products, but there's always a problem with one or the other.

Bunnylake, that shouldn't be a problem at all. Currently I do shampoo and conditioner from the matching line, down to the matching scent (Suave Naturals Soothing Lavender and Lilac) but I'm finding that I use more conditioner than shampoo, so when the conditioner runs out, I might buy conditioner of another scent from the same line or a VO5 conditioner. I've been cone free for almost two months and I think my hair likes being cone free so I don't want to go back to the coney conditioners.

I never match my shampoo and conditioner. I occasionally have dandruff, so I'll use head and shoulders shampoo, but for conditioner, I'll experiment.

Right now I'm really loving the way my hair is, so something is definitely working.

I use horse shampoo & suave conditioner. It works out great!

I used to match my shampoo and conditioner, but that was more for convenience than anything else. Now I use what works best for my hair, so I merrily mix and match. My current shampoo is great, but the matching conditioner was an unqualified disaster.

I almost always mix and match! I've been using Everyday Shea Shampoo (Expensive, but my scalp really likes it :)) and Aussie conditioner. I tried the Everyday Shea Conditioner, but natural conditioners never really detangle my hair well... :( I honestly don't think it matters; whatever works best!

I would love to but usually all the products from the same line don't work well on me. Currently in my routine each oroduct is from a different line. The only time I used everything from the same line was years ago when I first started using Curl Junkie

I use what works, so sometimes they match and sometimes not. I use either SheaMoisture shampoo or Tresseme Naturals conditioner for washing, and then SheaMoisture products for additional conditioning/detangling/leave in. I really like most of the SM products, but the Tresseme is great for CO.

I use same line for shampoo and conditioner but products from another line. I use assie three minute miracle, one n only argan oil and other oils. I use different products. I'm doing good so far still experimenting but its going good.

I don't think there's any problem with mixing and matching products.

I prefer to use matching products from the same line because I would think they work better together. However, I often find that this isn't the case.

Moisturizing shampoo along with a moisturizing conditioner can be too much for my hair and scalp. I usually need a harsher shampoo, so will use one accordingly. Likewise with strengthening shampoo + conditioner together. It seems to just be too much for my hair.

Do whatever works for you. :flower:

When I do use styling products (which isn't often), I'll often use them from different line and frequency even from different brand. I use matching shampoo and conditioner simply because I don't want the scents clashing with each other. Scent of shampoo and conditioner takes pretty high rank on priority list of what I'm looking for in shampoo and conditioner.
