Augh, I need help. I need some accountability because I cannot depend on myself LOL :p I need someone to yell at me and keep me in line haha. I asked my close friend, but she likes it down so I don't think I can depend on her too much. I love it down. This is going to be hard for me :)

My goal is to wear my hair up for the next three months (and ignore the length or growth): June, July, and August. The only exceptions will be a "dress up day" once a month (I have a performance planned and I really wanted to wear my hair down that day...) I run a summer camp program for school aged kids, so most days it will be easy to keep it up because it's hot. Hopefully!

I've actually been doing this for over a month, but I thought I'd start counting with June 1st. I'm a little up-do challenged, so there will be lots of cinnabuns. :) I plan to really work on learning some new buns while on summer vacation next month. Prior to this challenge, I was in a lazy rut of just low ponytails that I would have to re-do several times during the day. I have to say that I'm really enjoying just putting my hair up in the morning and leaving it alone all day. I think my hair's enjoying not being down and tangled all the time, too. :)

Hi Falling Darkness! I'm thinking I'll probably try to grow to tailbone or so. I'm just about waistlength now.

I'm so glad to see a 16-year-old here that wants to take proper care of her hair. I work at a high school and I see so many girls who straighten their hair daily and always wear it down. The damage and split ends is so sad. I've got a few that I'm trying to convert. ;)

And with that I conclude my challenge! These six odd weeks were really useful. In the past I would feel uncomfortable, unfeminine with my hair up. I had no idea how to use hair-friendly toys and could do nothing beyond a simple braid. Now, I have gotten myself some really lovely sticks and have learnt more about both bunning and braiding. Most important, though, is the difference it has done to my hair and my attitude towards it - I actually like having it up now, and the effect on tangles is magical. :D

Wow! It seems like there are so many different types of updos, buns and braids up here on this thread :gabigrin:
Since my hair is still fairly short, kind of in between a pixie and a bob at this point, I have limited options on updos but perhaps when my hair is longer I can do some braids or buns to keep it up, but perhaps I can look at this or the braid or bun thread some more when my hair gets long enough:D

When my hair was longer, before I got it cut (also before I knew about this forum) I mostly wore it in ponytails or in a cinnabun-type bun held with roller pins because I have thick hair. But now that I know about sticks and forks and Ficcares (oh my!) I am rather excited for my hair to grow...

and meanwhile to everybody on this thread who are keeping their hair up and healthy and experimenting with new styles, good luck and happy growing, meanwhile I will just browse the forums some more...

For the past year I have had no salon trims, have microtrimmed about 4 times, S and D weekly and have worn my hair up every day except for maybe 10 days. I have grown a total of 5 inches and probably microtrimmed another one or 2 away. I had been stuck at 36 inches for a whole year and with this method have begun growing again.

So keeping hair up for protection had been a major factor in gaining some length - finally. Now at 41 inches which is just grazing TB for me.

Lately, I've noticed many splits which is probably due to tangles from wearing my hair down. Since it's summer (which means it's hot) I'm better off with my hair up. Also, I'm flirting with the no-poo method of WO washing once a week or so. I've also done a few micro trims with took off about half an inch in total. I'm visiting family in a month for 3 weeks and I'd like to have nicer and longer hair! I did this challenge once before for a little more than 100 days but I stopped because it felt forced. Anyways, I'll try this for a month and see what happens.

I saw this a week ago, so fittingly, Day 1 of the challenge became the first day of July, haha.

I'm joining in for a number of reasons. I play waaaaaaay too much with my hair, so this is me making an effort to stop that. If it's up in an intricate updo I'll stop and just let my hair be. Also, if I don't see my hair on a daily basis I won't continue to worry about if my hair is growing or not. You see the most difference if you haven't thought about your hair in that way for a long time, so that's what I'm doing right now. Also, to protect the ends of my hair.

When I'm nervous, I keep putting my hair up in a bun (with an elastic band) and letting it down again. Anyone other than me who does this? It's straining my hair, so I've bought nice new wooden hairsticks and other cute accessories to make it more fun trying out new updos. Instead of just the ballerina knot on top of my head like Little My from Mumin, which is basically the only updo I can force myself to do.

The biggest issue for me is to stop playing with it and change it he updo every other minute. Do you have any tips for trying to stop playing with it? Or is there an existing thread about this somewhere?

I'm joining the challenge! But I'm going easy on myself. I'm only going to do it every other week. I started Sunday and I'd like to go at least until the end of August. I've done pretty good though. It helped me stretch my washes. The one thing that bothers me most is driving in the car. Unless its high on my head its really annoying. So if I can't stand I will allow myself let it down in the car. I'm doing this so I don't obsess over the length, or lack thereof. Also I think after wearing it up for a period, I'll appreciate it more when it's down! For my last day of this weeks challenge I'm just wearing it up in a high bun. It's rather greasy and I've been outside in the heat all day helping m husband work on my car.
