I silently started a year up challenge while I was lurking and so far, so good. I have fallen into the habit of a modified sock bun with a hairagami or two french braids.
It is really nice when I take my hair out to wash it and see it that it is in fact growing.

Day 221-237: stuffed in a plastic bun cover. I know it's very boring with the same up-do every day, but my hair is so dry and fragile that I don't want to fiddle too much with it. I would rather be bored for a while than damage my hair so much that I have to chop. So, I'm totally ignoring my hair for a few more months. It's paying off, my hair is starting to grow again.

Day 684 (today)--I'm feeling really crummy and my scalp is really itchy, so I did a nice long scritch last night before bed. Today, I put a big handful of monostat through my crown area and put my hair back in an English Braid. I used a mix of shea butter and jojoba/coconut oil + Bpal down my braided length. I did that Friday PM and when I washed Saturday, my hair was super duper silky! :)

I've come to join!

My hair is barely APL, so some of my updos are limited, but I need to get out of the habit of either always going a cinnabun, or leaving it down. Therefore I've made my own rules: Wear 31 different updos consecutively. It was going to be a different updo everyday, but sometimes, I just want to leave a style in for a day or two. Either way, my hair will be in an undo everyday for at least 31 days.

Day 2 of 31: I've found a new favourite hairstyle to replace my drab old cinnabun! Twin buns. They're so cute and tiny on either side of my head!

My challenge is to wear a different style everyday for 31 days. I wonder if to cinnabuns just behind and above my ears is considered the same style as Mickey Mouse ears?

Anyone else want to weigh in on this?

Also, I think everyone should try doing this once. I've made a list, and realized, I know a lot of styles that I don't ever use, even though I like them quite a bit. I know I was in the cinnabun slump, and reading through this, many people tend to say they aren't creative, and always do the same bun or braid over and over.

Wow, this is a huge thread! I haven't been on here long as I just recently decided I wanted to grow my hair to classic length. I am at TBL now, enough to have to take it out of the waistband when I put pants on.

After reading the forum for hours and hours I've started some different routines and one is wearing my hair up, which I almost never did before. I have worn it up almost every day for two weeks but decided to wear it down to work on Friday. I felt so vulnerable!! I just kept thinking of how damaged my hair was getting... rubbing on clothes, chair, wind and sun. I have even started wearing it covered at home and I felt a little embarrassed today when I took the garbage out and forgot that I had my braid in a silk sleeping cap. I braid my hair and then put the cap over just the braid, like a pouch, and pin it on. I think I am going to sew a hem around the open edge and thread a ribbon though it so I can tie it in a bow rather than pin it.

I'll take the challenge and see how long I can go wearing it up. I need more hair toys!

Day 38: Gibson braids. One of my least favorite styles so far. I found it incredibly uncomfortable.

I just made a very wierd updo. I started with 2 pigtails, then divided each pigtail in 2. A thick section towards the back and a thin section towards the front. I braided each section. The thick braid I pinned straight up with the ends tucked under. Used hairpins. The thin braid in front I coiled behind each ear. Secured with mini clamps. The bangs that fell out I combed forward and made a tiny rope braid, then pulled back and secured with a mini clamp.
I doubt you'll see this on any other head, but it's comfy and hair friendly. I call this the Braid Floop.

I just had a trim yesterday (Saturday. I haven't been to bed yet :p), and was VERY disappointed with the results. I've been growing out crazy layers, and she cut off ALL my new growth for the last three months! So I'm back to sqare one, just barely past shoulder-length. I work in a hospital, so I wear my hair up practically every day.

BUT.....

I like the idea of a challenge. And my work hours are changing in two weeks, so I'll only be there three days a week. But that means I'll have to find styles that hold for 13+ hours, since I'll be on the floor 12 hours at a shot. :wink: Maybe if I don't see it all the time, I'll actually have some new growth at the end?

My challenge is to wear my hair up every day from now until Christmas. Exceptions are Thanksgiving, and when DFH makes puppy eyes for hair to be down on date night. So here we go...

I wanna join, lets start with 1 month. I'm at 12 days currently, today I wore a french twist. I'm just hoping it looks longer when I wear it down in 18 more days :)

Day 27 - evolved from a French twist to falling down when I had no comb to fix it and it wasn't cooperating :rolleyes: Managed to shove it into a really ugly ponytail of sorts with my Zannclip, and fixed it into a cinnabun when I got home.

Day 4: It's been in a half-up infinity bun (which I've found is a much better way to let my scalp hair dry than down, and letting the scalp hair dry as quickly as possible is crucial to me), but I'm about to put it in a French rope braid now it's mostly dry.

Day 700--Nothing fancy! A heavily oiled English braid. I sat next to two girls (they actually sat next to me (one on each side...I was there first)). Coughing and hacking :( I have a headache that started last night and my throat hurts now.

My hair never looks like the picture in the instructions :p Bear in mind that the person writing the instructions probably has hair of a different length and/or thickness than yours, or failing that a different degree of taper. Hence with things like braided buns (amongst other styles) your hair will look different from the hair in the tutorial.

I think I join in. I have been neglecting my hair a bit, I treated it well but did nothing to protect it. Plus my hair seems to be long enough to use hair sticks and other toys (I still have to buy a few...) which I think will keep me motivated at least some days or weeks.

Together with wearing my hair up I will try to not wash it as often as I do now, so I will allow myself a day off whenever I wash it. It just love my curls on that day, I dont want to hide them. So my main goal is to try out new hairstyles and keep the hair out of danger as often as possible.

I started today with a simple bun hold by a Flexi8
Oh and I ordered 2 hair sticks from ketylo's:cheese:
