FLURENONITE saidThe thing I love about doing this challenge is that I actually like how my hair looks now. I like spending a wee while in the morning thinking about what I'm going to do and actually trying it out, and having hair that looks nice. I also feel more confident in my appearance this way.[/quote]

I am so glad for this change for your feelings toward your hair! I enjoy thinking about it and planning too, and having to be accountable helps keep me on target. It is fun to see what everyone else does every morning!

It's whatever you want it to be :p It started initially as support for people who never wore their hair up because they felt they looked bad with it up, but who wanted to wear it up for protection. However, everyone pretty much makes up their own rules now. I don't have enough styles to do a whole month, but I'm trying to learn new styles so I am not allowing myself to wear the same style twice a week. Others are just trying to keep it up for protective purposes.

You make up your own rules, Shorty. Whatever works for you...Some days I get in a rut and do a week worth of English Braids or Cinna Clippy Buns, as you may have noticed if you look back--Those are my two "stand by" styles, that are quick and easy...My hands know exactly where to go out of instinct...Some folks have popped into join us for a few weeks and some have stayed longer--Some come in and out--ALL are welcome, and pictures (for inspiration) are ALWAYS welcome too. :flower:

I'll try that tomorrow. It's not really the length. It's more of when I separate my hair into sections there's not a lot of it so, it twists down to smaller than a pencil's diameter. Just doesn't look right.

Is it too late to join? If not then I'd like to do this too!
I'm setting my goal for about a month. Until I go to school again. I'll be wearing my hair up but it'll look like a short hair bob. I'm always going to wear my hair as a bob if I'm going out but if I'm at home I'll wear it in a bun. I'll only let it down if I'm showering, letting it dry and sleeping.
When I start to go to school again, I'm going to wear my hair in a bun when I'm in school, but let it down for special occasions like school games or dances and the exceptions as I mentioned before.
Here's how I will do my bob: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvi0Dmb9NCU
It will be fun to see my long hair after seeing it so short for a long time!
I'll post pictures up really soon!

Day 40: In theory, a flipped braided bun. In practice, a braided blob, stuck to the back of my head with a lacquered chopstick. It keeps my layers in better than a twisted bun, though.

And I'm finished with my personal challenge. I will say, I plan to keep wearing my hair up often, and stop checking it out in the mirror for length every day. I think I grew at least an inch and a half in the last two months without realizing it because it was up so much of the last month. And I branched out a lot in my hair styles, too, which is nice. Good luck everyone!

I think I'm finished with my personal challenge. I've done all the styles I know, some more than once, so I'm not finding the same excitement in picking a new style.

I am, however, starting a new challenge for myself. I've picked my five favourite styles from the challenge (vortex bun, fishtail braid, upside-down French braid, Chinese bun and lazy wrap bun) and am going to do each of them at least once a week for the next month. Hopefully by doing so I'm going to integrate them into my style repertoire rather than forgetting about them.

Hello everyone! I've been thinking about doing a challenge, and today is as good a day as any to start. I want to wear my hair up until January 1, 2010, so that's 166 days.

I wear it up 9 times out of 10, but I only know how to do a cinnabun. I want to learn some more updos. My hair is layered, so hopefully I'll be able to do more updos without pieces of hair sticking out all over the place. I also want to just forget about it for a while. I'm getting a little impatient with it.

Anyway, I started off my challenge with a (surprise) cinnabun.

I want to do this so badly! My hair is probably 4 or 5 inches past shoulder length so I find it very hard to do anything with my hair but let it air dry and be down. I also don't know how to get into it really. I like the way I look more with my hair down than up so I can't imagine it up all day! And I think I might use my hair to hide in a way too... I'd like to do this though for my hairs health.
Anyone have any advice or help for me?

Why not just continue where you left off and consider it a down day? I can't imagine why one day constitutes stopping the challenge!

Well, to do the challenge you do have to wear your hair up. :)

I'd suggest finding a style that you like and sticking with it until you gain both the length and the confidence to try other styles. Maybe a fun peacock twist? Your length seems just about right for it. Pigtail braids are also kind of fun and feel more like wearing it down than some other styles might.

Why not jump into the challenge for a week and see how it goes?

Welcome, Joyellen! This challenge is a great way to learn new updos...especially as your hair gets longer and more stuff gets to be accessible. I still have layers in the bottom 4" or so of my hair and bits stick out all over the place in some styles. And honestly, I wear either a cinnabun or a Karen Lynn Knot 99% of the time.

Good luck with your challenge. 166 days will FLY by!

I started my challenge in almost the same way as you. My hair was almost always in a cinnabun, or a French braid if I put it up when it was wet. I wore my hair up for four weeks in seventeen different styles and haven't worn a cinnabun since the beginning of June (I don't really like it because it tends to pull and doesn't generally look good on me). My hair's BSL and, although I don't have layers, my hair is thick with a U-shape hemline, making a lot of styles that many people at BSL can do impossible for me. If you search for my posts in this thread (negating the ones near the beginning where I tried this challenge and failed) you might get some ideas :)

Hi :waving: welcome to our little thread! :o Cinnabun is one of my standby styles...I use these 3 mini octi clips to hold it up, it holds like a rock and I love it...Practice and experiment with styles...Check out the article forum for some really great ideas...Youtube.com is also a great resource for instructions and inspiration.

Well, perhaps start out by doing 1/2 up. There aren't any rules for this, so you can customize it to meet your own needs. Some folks have popped in for a few weeks or a month leave for a while and join back in...So, it's all up to you. I hope you decide to stay. :D
