Okay I'm back! Unfortunately, I'm going to have to start over, as I took a couple of days off at the beach. The rest of the time, though, it was up in various ways with my aquapearl ketylos - those things are awesome for the beach.
I started yesterday but didn't get back on here so:

Day 1 - cinnabun with ketylo
Day 2 - angel bun with 60th street fork

ETA: I have actually had it up every day, but my brain is gone so far, yesterday is all I can remember!

there are a couple of links in the hair style dictionary.
http://hairstyledictionary.ztn.net/filter.php?ax=o

Thank you for the link. LOL I've done the celtic knot like that as a variation of a braid. And with half my hair done some other celtic knots, I think the pic in my profile demonstrates one of them. But I've done more intricate ones.

Day 8: Same high bun with clippies from traveling -- did a trans-Atlantic flight followed by a 4-hour train ride! In the evening, I re-did my bun lower on my head for dinner.
Day 9: Flipped up French braid with a claw clip
Day 10: Bun with clippies
Day 11: Twin French braids with the ends tucked under each other and held with clippies to make a sort of laurel-crown-type hairstyle. I'll do this one again this week sometime to post pictures. In the evening, I took a shower and WO-ed my hair and threw it up in a peacock twist with a jeweled Ficcare for the conference banquet I attended with my husband.
Day 12: Bun with clippies.
Day 13: Double buns with clippies
Day 14: Another high bun for travel.

Yay, my challenge ended the day before yesterday :D
I didn't like the results as much, because having my hair up all the time didn't let me check the condition of my hair, which resulted in dryer hair than before the challenge.
Though, I will wear it up a lot more often - I discovered the tangles reduce quite a bit when I don't wear it down 70% of the time.

Friday was Day 562: Cinnabun up with a Ficcare so it would stay put all day. And yes, it did.
Saturday was Day 563: More of the same.
Sunday was Day 564: And again, the same - spent the weekend helping a friend move and didn't want to deal with anything hairy at all.

Today is Day 565: Um, yeah, SSDD. Same Style, Different Day. What can I say? Lazy is my middle name!!! (not really, it's Leah, but you know what I'm talking about, don't you!!!???)

OK, I've tried to do this challenge multiple times and always failed. I'm pretty good at wearing my hair up most days, aside from wash days (so that's five or six days a week), but my goal has been, as far as I can remember, to learn new styles. I like the concept of the bun held with a single stick, but that's not really feasible for me with my hair at the moment. I thus tend to end up with what could best be described as a "cinnaturd". It's meant to be a cinnabun, but doesn't work out so well. Hence, I'm going to branch out from single-stick buns and try all the other beautiful styles for a while until my hair is long enough for things like the orchid bun to withstand more than sitting about.

I'm going to go week-to-week, and when I complete one week successfully I'll go for another week. I think this will be easier for me because if I tell myself I'll go a month, for instance, with a different style every day I'm bound to fail. So, my individual rules are:

1. Different hairstyle for every day of the week. No cinnaturds unless I'm really running late.
2. Hair can be worn down on wash days, but when I decide it's too hot to leave it down it does not go up into a cinnaturd. Or a ponytail. It's going up in a proper style about which I'm not going to be embarrassed. Plaits are acceptable, because I'm fairly decent at those and they're pretty.
3. I'm contemplating making half-ups acceptable once a week, because I'm trying to make myself do them more often. There are a lot of buns I could do as a half-up, and my hair's thick enough that it works better as a half-up then all-down a lot of the time, if I could only remember to do the half-up  My options tend to just be my cinnaturd, down, or occasionally a plait most of the time, and my goal here is to expand those options.

Today I'm wearing my hair in a figure-8 over an infinity. I'll edit and post a pic shortly.

Ok, I'm in. I've resisted this for a while because I really do prefer to wear my hair down! However I am in the process of converting from cones to no cones (and detergent free as well) and I while I KNOW my hair is benefiting, it feels SO much softer now) it still doesn't look that great down. Also the length does get damaged pretty easily so I'm going to bite the bullet and just put it up and forget about it for hopefully a few months! Then I'll reevaluate the routine (and glory over the surprise length :D )

Brisen: Thank you, too. I have hair that is just longer than collarbone. There's a recent length shot (May 2009) in my albums, and it's grown a little since then. I'm a iii thickness. To make the hairstyle, I just made French-braided pigtails (separate hair into two sections, keep one roped off with a hair tie and French braid the other, then braid the second), and then tucked the ends around and under each other, kinda pushing them up under the original French braids, and secured them with mini-claws. I suppose you could also do it with pins. If I had much longer hair, I'd probably do Dutch braids, and wrap the loose parts around the outside of my head behind my ears. It strikes me as a good style to wear under Renaissance-style taping. But yeah, with shoulder-length hair, you should be able to do something like it. If you're wearing it for an occasion, you can pin up the wispy stuff at the bottom, but I just wore it for work.

Day 19: Today I'm wearing a messy French twist with black chopsticks. I have to practice stick-held styles in preparation to receive my NightBlooming custom order!

Today is my first day! I am going to wear my hair up for one month. I do wear braids alot, but I am also going to experiment with cool buns and things. If you have any buns that would work on my hair, (waist length, thick, straight) that would be great. Today I am wearing two braids.:) So, I am going to wear my hair up every day until July 22. Good Luck me!!:D

Day 132: 2 buns on top of my head with a little Janeway poof

Again, I apologise for my laziness in posting and promise to keep a better record of how my hair is up. Forgive me?

Since I've been a lazy slug in terms of posting anything for the past few days, here's the recap:

Saturday, Day 570: English Braids, 2 of them, then later a messy bun with a random wood fork (unbranded).
Sunday, Day 571: KL knot that miraculously held all day with a big Ficcare signature clip in Silver Matte.
Yesterday, Day 572: CO'd in the morning after a big bike ride, so it was a wet sloppy turd bun all day long - it did dry some, but was still really damp when I went to bed last night.

Today is Day 573: Right now a faux crown braid that's sliding down over my left ear (oops...my technique clearly needs work). It's coming down to be replaced by an elegant chignon to go with the mismatched sweats I wore to work today and already spilled coffee on.

Welcome, by the way, to the New People! Good luck with your challenges!!! :)

My "short hair" (too short for updos) rough equivalent to this is to wear bandannas for a while. I would suggest it to other shorties if you are wanting to achieve the same effect (kind of ignore your hair, let it do its thing, and hopefully have a nice surprise later). I have kind of been embracing the bandanna look recently.

So technically, I'm in the home stretch, one more week before my month is over, but I'm going to be at a conference next week where it will be easiest to just leave my hair up, so I'll probably extend at least until July 4th. Alright, I'm rejoining this challenge for a month. I was in it, lasted 5 or 6 days, then dropped out for reasons I can't remember. I was probably just lazy. Now that I have some more easy updos in my handbag maybe I can be better. Braids and half-ups count for me, as well as leaving it down for an hour or so at night.

I'll actually start it yesterday.

Day 1 - Figure 8 held up with a hairstick and a few pins
Day 2 - Hypnoswirl held up with a hairstick a few pins. I'm really jealous of you talented LHCers who can do your updos so perfectly that you don't need to pin any loose ends in.

hey, i must be on day 400 odd, as i wear my hair up everysingle day, either if its with a scrunchie/stick or cloth. i was a bit concerned about what my mum was saying to me yestrday, she kept saying 'you should really really not wear your hair up all the time, because of the stress it pulls on your roots (even if not tight). I know that it can be a cause of hairloss on occasions for some. Does any one else worry about this? any thing they do to get around the issue? i would never wear it down because i know the damage and how tatty my hair can get when it is down. Furthermore, i hate the thought of the damage that could happen doing braids, or having my hair brushing against my clothes.

I dont worry about it personally because I am not wearing the same style every day, but it can lead to breakage .. I think the best thing to do is vary your hairstyles enough so that you're not pinning and pulling in the same spot daily.. that being said.. my aunt had hip length hair and wore it in a very tight bun on top of her head every day for at least 50 years and her hair was AMAZING! so... I don't know.. I think it just depends on the hair and how tight you pull.

Cherry_Sprinkle, your clip is beautiful!

i was a bit concerned about what my mum was saying to me yestrday, she kept saying 'you should really really not wear your hair up all the time, because of the stress it pulls on your roots (even if not tight).

If it's not tight, I don't know that it would really be pulling on the roots very much. When you have your hair loose, it weighs the same as it does when it is up, though I guess you do have to add in the weight of any clips etc. If it is pulled tight enough that it is uncomfortable, I would be concerned.

In my (limited) experience, I get less pulling on my roots when my hair is up, because it isn't being caught in things or played with by me.

Lately, I have worn my hair up and covered, but due to travelling, computer dying unexpectedly and other stuff (in short: life) happening, I have not recorded my updos for a couple of weeks. I know my 100 days are up now, and I think it's time to officially call it a break from the challenge.

I may well join you again later, once my life becomes a bit more regular again!

Thank you :) I've got this weird bit of sagging hair at the bottom, but I don't think you can see it in the picture, and it's not too bad IRL, either.

The thing I love about doing this challenge is that I actually like how my hair looks now. I like spending a wee while in the morning thinking about what I'm going to do and actually trying it out, and having hair that looks nice. I also feel more confident in my appearance this way.
