I think I'm going to have to drop out of the random bun challenge until I can redo my list. I need to find thirty buns, because I didn't have quite that number last time, and my RNG doubled up on a lot of buns and left others out completely. It's like it was random or something. ..
For today, it's in Corvana's version of the LWB.

I always move styles to the bottom of the list when I do them, so they don't get repeated.

I guess I'm a wear it up dropout =(. What happens is I leave it down to air dry, and then just sorta pin up or clip up part of it, but not the entire thing. My hair is pretty wavy, so it's not like I want to really brush or comb through it and manipulate it a lot.

Day 3 of new bun challenge. Yesterday was supposed to be a marine bun, but I just could not get it to work, so I ended up with a LWB with a stick, which coincidentally happens to be today's bun! I finally figured out how to make LWB's work for me again, which makes me happy :)

I am finding that I like to double wrap for the same reason! They seem to lie flat more than poke outwards from my head.

I'm not doing well with my different buns challenge. For the past couple days, it's been LWB with a fork. Maybe I should try for a new bun twice a week instead of every day? Or just rotate the buns I know more frequently. I could keep a list in a prominent place and just try not to wear the bun I wore the previous day. Less exciting than AmaryllisRed 's challenge, but I'd still get some variety!

AmaryllisRed
April 22nd, 2019, 01:02 PM
Sometimes I think maybe a new bun every week would be fun. And a more relaxed pace.
I definitely have days where I end up failing at whatever new bun I tried and just going back to a nautilus. It's still fun and I'm still learning new buns so I call it a win. :)

I'm glad it's working out for you, AmaryllisRed :) I think I'll just work on not wearing the same bun two days in a row for now, and maybe take some more pictures. I'm going to make a list of buns to try, but won't hold myself down to doing a different one every day.

Chinese braided buns are so pretty! I'm trying to figure out how to secure my ends. I've got Good Days hair pins, but it seems like they don't grab enough hair to keep the bun sturdy. Maybe I should get some amish pins?
Today is a LWB with a fork, again, due to hair being slippery from deep treatment yesterday.

I'm still wearing mine up everyday but it's mostly been the wickeldutt bun I found. I started experimenting with ways to wear my hair while exercising, and so far the winning do is a cinnabun on the top of my head, held with Good Days puns.

Its about time. I always wear my hair down and loose. It's only at collarbone so I can make excuses .. that it's not damaging or so. But I have to start putting it up.
I guess I need my mind off it. That I don't worry all the time if my waves behave and look presentable enough to be loose. Maybe it will also stop the urges to trim and cut. If I could only forget it for a while...
I start a challenge tomorrow and take a month. That will be tough....

I'm back in after a 6 yr interval during which I wore my hair up 70% of the time, but now I plan to bun daily. DCing right now and overnight, so I'm counting this as day 1. My appearance looks much more polished with it down, and I can also stretch my time b/w hair colorings if it's down rather than pulled back and roots exposed. No kvetching though. I'm in.

Today I'm wearing an LWB. This might be my new go-to bun.

That’s cool, I went from lwb to eventually nautilus, the other way around. I literally wear the same bun every single day, but I’m cool with that. Trying hard to wear it looser or at least always have the face framing hairs loose enough to get fingers underneath them when bunned.

Can’t remember when I first posted here, must be around six months ago. Well I’ve been wearing my hair up every day since, and have got used to it for the first time in my life.

Six months of updos? I need to get on your level. Now that I've discovered I can do the LWB that might motivate me to wear my hair up. I like that it's easy and holds well. Sometimes the cinnabun starts to slip and feel loose. This bun doesn't do that.

Well, I managed to break my first hairstick a month ago during its third or fourth day of use and had to go back to using my pencil in my bun. Today I managed to break my pencil too. I don't know, shall I stop the challenge or use my (I think) last long pencil to bun my hair? I'm afraid of the possibility of breaking it too.

Hello,
While it is no where near the same, I had 11 years of updos, (military regulation hair really isn't an updo though and has so much tightness and pins that it caused damage.) However, NOW I no longer need to wear the regulation low bun pinned tightly and I am very happy to discover and try looser buns. :)!!!
New for me are the non tight buns. I sure look forward to posting again in several month and am just now learning how to do other, less traumatic, buns.

Stella could you be bunning too tightly? I can’t imagine breaking pencils using them as hair sticks. At waist you should have enough length to do a nice easy bun if you use the right type (more limited options if your hair is very thick, but still better than doing it too tight?)

I do admit that sometimes I make buns tight, I feel that they are more secure, no hair falls/slips out of it, and they last all day without having to be redone. My hair might be waist lenght at its longest point, and relatively kind of thick at the upper part, but at its lower part is thinner. I have an uneven cut since the last time I cut my hair from hipbone to chin (in the front, the back was shorter) I did so to get rid of knots that ended matted taking at least a part of most of my hair. Because I do not have straight hair I did not feel like correcting the cut since it wasn't visible, and especially during the first year I missed my long hair and didn't want to lose any more length. Since the hair is thinning down the length I think the end of it slips out of the buns easier. Today I broke my pencil while trying to make a braided nautilus bun, while trying to put the pencil from under the bun to the left hole like thing that is created while bunning. I think that I broke both the hairstick and the pencil while trying both times to do tight braided buns and while trying to do the sewing like motion and bringing it out of the bun and using at both moments unnecessery force, thinking of nothing bad happening.

Thank you for taking the time and answering to me. You helped me a little bit while thinking. I hope that I'll remember and don't make the same mistakes again.

You’re most welcome. Hopefully you can find yourself a happy medium with keeping hair in and not having it too tight. I learned not by breaking sticks but having the delicate hairs by my face pulled too tight so they weren’t so happy.

I want to take this challenge so bad, but I am hesitant because I don't feel comfortable with my hair up, I feel more confident with it down, but I want to protect my hair from damage, I am trying to let it grow, Im tired of having "short hair", the last time I had "long" hair (WL) was back in 2014, since then I have been 5 years with my hair between SL and BSL, and because my hair is 1A I feel forced to use heat to give it some volume, so I want to stop it and just keep it up for some time, Im just scare I will fail.
I will do my best and I will start tomorrow. Im nervous LOL

I’m hoping to start wearing mine up daily. I’m testing out a hair stick and it’s held my bun well so far. I will probably switch between basic braids and buns (w/clips, sticks & maybe forks). I can’t do my hair to save my life, so it will never be fancy, but protected!

No Stella, just go on ebay and order you some cheap sticks and pencils. You can also use bic ball point pens or slim paint brushes. I have also seen slim makeup brushes used too. Go for Chinese food and save your chopsticks. One more idea. A box of colored pencils will give you a stick in every color....cheap too. Then of course you could always use bobby pins though less than ideal.

(Lol) I unplugged the flat iron and put my hair in a bun and held it with a clip...

I actually currently use my coloured pencils to bun my hair. The hair stick I ordered through Aliexpress and wait for it to come costs 2 euros, it is not too expensive. I had tried sometimes a bun with bobby pins before learning to bun with pencil/hair stick and it was pretty unstable and the bobby pins were slipping and coming off. I would not prefer to go back to that. I have never eaten chinese food, so, I have no idea where to find the sticks. I think I have found where the problem with my bun making technique lies. Problem a) too tight buns, problem b) extreme angles while trying to insert the pencil/hairstick and catch scalp hair.

I've been wearing my hair up everyday for the past three years out of necessity due to being too hot with it down. My problem is that once I find a style, it becomes so fast easy to do that I get into a rut and don't change it up until it grows out of that style. I can't do too many styles, yet.

At first, it was a French roll held by a gigantic clip, then the same roll using an 8 shape barrette with a stick. Then, when it grew out of that, I wrote it braided down the back. Realized I might be damaging it right at the tassel, so I started cinnabunning.

I swear, I am so tired of that one now, and tried Princess Leia buns, yesterday. It was so simple when I didn't try to ponytail them first. Just ran my finger down the back of my head to separate it in two, rolled them up and spinpinned them. So freaking easy! Took me all of five minutes to do. This is one of the styles that I grew my hair for, in the first place!😃🥰

Did you ever notice that with your long hair styles, you become out of touch with how the rest of the world is styling THEIR hair? I find myself only noticing other longhairs and their styles. I find it so bizarre that the rest of the world is actually following modern (bad) advice and standards.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same lately. Ah well, I'll just keep on doing it the LHC way and wait and see what comes of it after a few years of growing it out :)

I'm for sure joining this after my henna fully oxidizes! I'll go easy mode with one month. I would really love to learn some new ways to wear my hair while protecting it from the elements. :)

One question though: My hair is cut into layers and has a lot of facial framing going on. Does the stuff that fall down around my face when I put it up a disqualifier? I could use some bobby pins or a gentle hair band but I would really prefer not doing so.

THat makes sense. I think if it's up to preference though I will just let my face framing fall around my face when it wants. I don't plan on growing out my facial frame. I like it... although I know that's an unpopular preference here. haha

Hi everyone, right I’m so desperate for my hair to grow without me obsessing over the length that I’m going to try the 100 day hair up challenge. Wish me luck! I normally prefer my hair down so this will be a real challenge for me. I started yesterday so...

Day 1 - low side messy bun
Day 2 - French twist held with flexi 8

I love the *idea* of doing this myself. I keep creeping around the thread! I wear my hair down usually on day 1/clean hair. And in some kind of uninspired LWB every other time  Good luck to you, Star_fish!!!

Day 4: Low center messy bun

Since I'm new at hair styles/buns I bought some bun donuts to help me come up with m ore ideas and work around my layers. They should be here today.

I hope they help! :)

Thanks Little Healthy.

My amazing new hair fork just arrived so I’ve been really excited to play around with that. If any of you are in the UK I highly recommend Doreen at Long Haired Jewels, she has such lovely stuff! So...

Day 52?: Interlaced braids from yesterday. Pretty frizzy so I'll be re-doing it before going out in the world.

Day 2694 A tight three finger LWB that made a bee butt on top of my head. This was for sleeping, but was so intact when I dressed I did not redo it.

Wow bparnell75 day 2694??! I’d love to know how long your hair is?

I’ve realised I must have missed a day somewhere along the line as I’m now on day 6 - French twist held w ficcare

Day 53: Interlaced braids from TWO days ago. I did NOT re-do it before going out into the world and I may have looked a little scary. :) Will be taking down and washing today, but I have enjoyed not having to think about my hair for a full 48 hours.

I am classic. It has taken me 8 years to get here with only micro trims about every 6 months.... am going to take pictures and post them on my birthday Oct 5th.
