Day 1827- I officially began wearing my hair up everyday on June 13, 2012. So that is 5 full years. 5x 365=1825 add today- Day 1826. plus one leap year.

This is easy for me because hair on my neck really bugs me. Any way I grew it long to wear it up. It is down while drying sometimes until I can get it back up, but never do I WEAR it down. It is down when I get a headache for a few moments until I can find a new position or toy to help.

Any advice on what to do when your head/roots get sore from leaving your hair up to long? Does anyone else get this?
I used to, until I found comfortable styles for my head (which can depend entirely on the hairtoy too; certain hairtoys are more comfortable with specific updos for me), it was in part something that I had to get used to too, I used to never put my hair up at all, even at classic length, I'd just let my hair flow freely so putting it up everyday was a huge learning curve for both me and my scalp! It could also help if you changed the position of your updo. You might be someone who's scalp can only handle buns on specific parts of your head, but not others... or you just need to change it up often so that you're not putting too much pressure on one spot all the time.

Could also be as simple as your bun being too tight or too loose (overly loose buns that move around too much can give me headaches the way super tight buns would... I need a medium ground).

I don't think scrunchies are actually damaging, especially if you use silk or satin scrunchies. Neither are claws, if you take care not to let your hair get ripped out by hinges/springs when removing them from your hair. Clips aren't damaging either unless they're those snap clips.

I have tried at some other styles ( a messy french twist and a french rope braid) but then I just go back to a Nautilus Bun.
I'm really liking wearing my hair up! I will have to have it down for a length picture at the beginning of next month, but of course that won't count!
Even though I don't want to "force" myself to wear my hair up, I kind of want to see if I can wear it up until it is 33" which I think should be waist length on me.
I've also thought about having it up for the rest of the wear, but that sounds overwhelming... I'll take it day by day and see where that gets me...

I expected the summer frizz but instead the autumn´s coming: my hair looks fine, thin (from 8 to 7 cm pony circ.), it lost it´s curls (it´s more like 2a-2b) and it looks stringy. the good part is that it shows it´s length, it´s easier to S&D and micro trim, plus I don´t nead the leave-in on a daily basis.

Day 38: my hair finally behaves! Sorry for the question in the forum but I discovered that the dew point was 37 to 90 percent. Of course my hair was actually too much moistured. I have actually low porosity although the comb did some breakage. S&D kept my hair neat but I have an uneven growth. Maybe I should stop calling my hair damaged when in fact it's about an uneven growth because of too much S&D without trims. So my today's hair is a finally centered neat braided cinnamon bun again. For the New Hairstyle Every Week challenge. PS: this challenge help me exercise my hairstyles more.

So a while back when I was first growing my hair, I used this thread to help keep me inspired to wear my hair up to protect it. But as time went on I got more used to hair up than down and now it's completely habit to just wear it up and it feels weird to have it down. Has anyone else on this thread had this experience? So a while back when I was first growing my hair, I used this thread to help keep me inspired to wear my hair up to protect it. But as time went on I got more used to hair up than down and now it's completely habit to just wear it up and it feels weird to have it down. Has anyone else on this thread had this experience? Also day, I don't know 1825 or perhaps a bit longer, knot bun with claw clips.

This is basically my experience right now. I no longer feel the need to check in as now it's become such a way of life for me.

You just challenge yourself to however long you want to keep your hair up and then announce it here and log each day (or several days) that you wore your hair up. Most people also say how, but that's up to you. I think the first page of this thread is more specific about how to announce your challenge and such, but it's pretty loose in terms of "rules".

my hair was on day 44 co-washed with my ol' goody cone conditioner. Yesterday evening my hair felt so smooth my hands wanted to try to braid it again. Then I tried a braided Nautilus bun to keep my hair contained in a cap while sleeping.
Day 46: the same braided Nautilus bun because it is stable and I will cover my hair anyway.

Hi everyone! I'm going for a one-month challenge beginning today. If all goes well after that and I feel like carrying on, I may continue on for a 3" challenge (hair up until I reach 30"). This will be super hard for me as I'm used to wearing my hair down at least two-three days a week!

Well I went in for this 30-day challenge and have worn my hair up ever since! Wasn't sure if I could really commit to the full 3" challenge but I've made up my mind to go for it. I was at 27" when I started, so going to wear it up until I reach 30".

I did see great results from wearing it up for 30 days. Summertime usually brings more frizz and drier ends - didn't happen. Almost no damage either - I didn't S & D for the whole month, and when I finally did at the end of the challenge it was difficult to find any splits at all. Before this I would check about every 7-10 days and find quite a few (especially on the curly underlayer). I think more regular oiling may have helped with this too though, so wearing it up was not the only factor.

For this 3" challenge I aim to wear it up at least 95% of the time, as OP suggested.

Other times I temporarily let it down are to dry my hair, or to give my scalp a break for an hour or so.

So I had worn my hair up for 45 days straight, but then yesterday evening I decided I just wanted to wear it down. And it was nice :) I wore it up to work today, but am wearing it down right now. I think it was time to appreciate how it looks when it is down. I will keep wearing it up for the most part since it has helped so much with damage and I do like it. I will probably do another challenge in the future, maybe just a month or two at a time.

Haven't posted for a few days, but, I have been wearing my hair up in different ways. Mostly in ballerina style buns, but not pulled too tightly. These bun styles are great! Once they're well anchored, they remain presentable & elegant-looking even on the hottest days. They even enable me to treat the lengths with more oil, without it ever looking greasy.

Well I think it's about time I overcome that feeling for the sake of healthy hair so.. Here I am! My hair has been successfully contained for 5 days now and I'm also learning a few updos, so yay!
I'd like to try to keep my hair up until Christmas, which is when I will see DBF again (he moved last week so I thought it would be nice to keep my hair away as long as he's not around).. Let's see what I can do !
