View Full Version : Should I get a trim?

Hello all. Lately I've been noticing some thinness at the ends, maybe due to my underlayer being seemingly shorter than canopy and been pondering getting a small trim (a week ago I saw one split end in my bangs). However, as I see my hair 24/7, I may just be seeing things about my hair needing a trim. I know my last trim was in May but since them I haven't seen any split ends in my hair and it's been growing half an inch every month on average since then. This pic of my hair was taken this past month. http://i1059.photobucket.com/albums/t435/biogirl87/hairtyping-1_zps4179b490.jpg
With all this in mind, I want opinions of those who have fresh set of eyes when it comes to my hair and so I'm asking all of you for opnions. Any thoughts as well coments on my hair would be appreciated.

Look really good to me! Absolutely no need for a trim! :) Just keep growing - should look great longer! :)

I'd hold off on a trim. I see nothing very out of the ordinary. Your hair is looking good. You can always trim later.

No, you don't need a trim.

You are presumably asking us because you are not sure - my rule is- if you are not sure - don't:)

You may be right Sarahlabyrinth. Just seems odd to me that my underlayer would be one to two inches shorter than my canopy. Thanks for the comments everyone though.

Your hair looks healthy...you could keep growing for a while before trimming. Also, have you considered that your hair type might be 2b/2c. I am seeing a lot of spirals.

I wouldn't trim it if I were you. I see absolutely no reason to trim.

Dandelion, I have thought so too, but the fact that this pic was taken only a few hours after taking my hair out of updo may have something to do with it. I don't normally see many spirals in my hair, esp. in the back (there one on each side of my hair looking from the front).

Your hair looks wavy or curly. And curly, wavy hair tends to curl unevenly and clump in sections.I just cut back this summer from hip to waist only to find it looked no different.I also have wavy ,curly hair.Your under layer may curl a bit more than your canopy so it appears shorter[mine does that]Your ends look like mine so I say don't cut as it will still look the same after.

My under layer is barely BSL in extreme fairy-tale ends...I'm sure not gonna trim rest of my hair because of it... Some people just have this problem with under-layer i think? :o

I think your hair looks absolutely fine. Unless there's damage that isn't showing up on the photo, I'd leave it alone. :)

I don't think you need a trim at all! If you want to even up your canopy with your shorter layer you could trim, but it's certainly not necessary from a visual point of view.

This.

Also, I know that you're just asking for opinions here but please bear in mind that it's what you think about your hair that matters and not what everyone else thinks. If you want to trim or not trim is your own business and shouldn't be anyone elses concern.

It doesn't need a trim in my opinion.

If you trim, it would only be for style reasons. Your hair looks very healthy.

Personally, I like the canopy and the hemline to blend a bit a more. But again, that's style. You could easily bridge the gap over the next year by trim half your monthly growth, allowing your hemline to thicken but still growing....

Thanks for your comments everyone, especially CurlyCap. I think having layers really took away from my thickness (although having bangs may have done this too) and I want to try to grow out my layers. I may just go by your suggestions to accomplish this. Right now my hair doesn't seem like it needs a trim, so I'm going to let it grow for a few more months before going for a trim and then get a small trim done like you suggested.

usually I'm all about trims, but your ends look healthy :) When they start to get a weird texture feeling at the ends is usually when I know I need a trim

I have become a fan of the monthly microtrim. It keeps the ends nice and I still get plenty of growth. The trick is to keep it at just a tiny dusting, like 1/4 inch or less if possible. This is something that you basically have to do self trim unless you know someone that you could really trust.

Just looking at your picture it doesnt look like you need a trim, but when I get antsy about it and start to get the trimming itch a little tiny microtrim gets me back on track and eases the trimming anxiety without setting me back.
