Pinterest "Long Hair" Boards

I have a long hair board on pinterest. I was browsing some other people's boards and noticed that my version of "long hair" appears to be much longer than the average persons. I keep clicking on long hair boards where the average length is MBL.

Is MBL considered long?

I start to consider hair "long" on the average person at waist length. But I don't consider it long by long hair standards until tailbone-classic length. If that makes any sense at all, haha.

:shrug: It really depends on the person, for most average people MBL is long. But for most people on LHC what they consider long is much different, some consider hip length the start of long hair.
For me personally MBL is more of the start of long hair. Since for some people MBL can look long while other others its looks short.
There is no wrong or right for each person to be what they consider long. :)

Yeah, I have noticed that a lot of people's conception of long hair is not even waist length. My idea of long hair is very different from a lot of people's, but I believe that is because some people never see anyone with hair longer than waist.

I think most people I know would consider long hair anything past APL. If they could only see the hair from LHC members!

I am sorry - I wasn't trying to sound judgmental in my tone. Of course long will be different to everyone. It just surprised me that the average "long" was MBL apparently on Pinterest.

Yes, I have found that as well while searching Pinterest. And even when I search Google for long hair styles, it's mostly BSL hair.

Lovely boards, everyone! I have a few hair pictures pinned, but my board is just a general beauty-esque board. hair, makeup, hair tutorials, cool nail polish, etc etc.

I did find this (http://pinterest.com/pin/231935449529920474/) image, which is what I imagine my hair to look like when I get to my goal length. Except with a bit more wave, of course.

My hair is now waist length. However, most my life if you had hair past BSL, it was technically considered long hair. I think just for us really long hair people, its weird, because we think of waist or longer as being long, not really BSL. So it really just depends on a persons view. Now, I myself consider long hair, MBL or longer.

To me, anything BSL or longer is 'long'. I guess it's because that's the general norm for the non-LHC world. My hair dresser calls my shaggy, jaw length bob 'mid length'. I call it 'short'. :)

For years and years, until someone introduced me to LHC, I would go to hairstyle websites looking for long hair styling ideas. Inevitably, I'd be disappointed because all the "long hair" styles were APL to MBL. LHC was a godsend because I knew only three updos!

I always considered anything longer than waist as long. BSL and midback seems to be the average where most people seem to maintain their hair length never taking that one step a little further to long hair.

Now that my hair is nearly at waist I feel it isn't that long...I think the longer it gets the shorter it feels sometimes :rolleyes:

MBL is long for your average Joe, believe it or not ;) In fact I am not being told that MY hair is long by people who've only known me since I cut it into a bob. General people don't like long, long hair :(

I never have much luck finding them to begin with because Pinterest's search function seems pretty screwy to me, so I don't know. I like pinning pretty pictures of long hair more than pictures of the longest of the long. I'm way more likely to pin a quality photo of someone with MBL hair than a snapshot photo of someone with classic length hair where you can see their fridge behind them.

I think most people consider long to be APL+. I know someone with APL hair who always refers to it as "long." Ugh. ;)

Like someone above me, I would consider hair on others to be long at about BSL-Waist, but on myself, it is not truly "long" until it's hip and further.

It's just a general board for pictures of really awesome hair, though I notice looking through it that I do have a tendency to repin hair that's of a color and texture with mine :laugh:


Also, as someone who had a pixie cut most of my life, I'll say I always thought long meant shoulder length and beyond! Honest to god. Hair to me was "long" or "short." Short meant "like a boy's" and a length where styling was impossible or difficult. Long meant you could do things like put the hair in a ponytail! Wow! :o

It usually depends on what I'm actually searching for... though I have noticed on boards with multiple pinners (like 30-100+ sometimes), there always seems to be one person who feels a need to pin things that are completely irrelevant to the purpose of the board. :mad: Like straight up nudity on a "horses" board. Drives me crazy.

I've always used the guideline that if you can't put it in a ponytail it's short. Ponytail to past collar bone is medium, and longer then that is long. I'm not quite APL and I don't have "long hair" by LHC standards. But if someone asked me to describe my hair I would say I have long auburn hair.

LHC always makes me snort on this one particular topic. It's like a community of giants who really would like to redefine anyone less than 6 foot ten as "short". Or a convention of nuclear physicists who think that an IQ of less than 200 is dim. :D

LHC definitions of long are out of kilter with reality.

Most of the time we live in the real world, where averages matter and guide our definitions. So yes, if only a small proportion of people in the real life community have hair longer than shoulder length, then yep, that is long. We benchmark from our experience around us.

Which means that
a. some people might be spending a smidge too much time on here which has altered their perception of normal
and b. We need to redefine a category of its own for LHCrs. The "superduperOMGso-long-you-can-stand-on-it-type-of-long" long hair. :thumbsup:

Well, the pictures themselves are fine, but I can't ignore what the original purpose of it was. If I find a picture of an Asian woman combing her calf length hair over the front of her head with a sleazy hotel room in the background, I can't bring myself to spread it around the internet more even if the picture is objectively great inspiration.

Went hunting and brought a bunch of long hair pictures to pinterest for the first time last night, though... Proud of myself! :p
