any advice how to take care of curly hair? Do i Only finger rake it in the shower and never brush it? what works better gel or mousse.... I feel wierd with that stuff in my hair. I read this one book about how to take care of curly hair but im like do they actually just finger rake their hair with only washing with conditioner? then put gel? really? do you?I do everthing wrong I guess...I brush and put nothing in my hair then end up with a pony tail because of bushy hair...I think I have a permanent kink in my hair from rubber bands which looks awful. Support and advice much appreciated

Oh, yes, there are! I'm guessing the book you read is Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey, and it has great advice.

Welcome to LHC! :flowers:

Yes! That's the book! Im trying not to be a product junkie like i used to be. I want to try everything all in one day! I think I need to chill, I get to excited. I need be like my husband and use conditioner and hair products till their empty, and then buy another because im out not because I didn't have fantastic hair that day!!! I just counted 7 bottles of shampoo and conditioners in the shower! Give me time I'll start collecting oils for my hair...Any one else like that?

Most all of us :D Just read. One of the most important things is to stop the heat and brushing. I only comb with a seamless wide tooth comb very carefully in the shower and then rake and scrunch conditioner or any other product while pretty wet. Then I arrange my hair and leave it completely alone until it's completely dry. Welcome!

go slow, try to avoid too many drastic changes all at once (other than the brush, put it down and walk away slowly. In fact, get it out of the house so you are not tempted by it. I shudder at the amount of years I spent trying to brush the frizz out of my hair and wondering why it did not work). Change too many things at once and you wont know which thing works for you. For me it was changing to CO for a while, then my hair seemed like it was finally hydrated enough and I changed over to CV bars. Good luck and welcome to the wild world of loving your curls.
