View Full Version : Good Child's hair products?

DD is nearly 2, and I'm having trouble with her hair. It's shoulder length, straight, fine, and extremely fragile. The back of her head has alot of breakage and tangles, alot of damage. We're currently still using a baby shampoo-bodywash combo, which I think may be too harsh for her hair, and also an organic leave-in conditioner that I think may be too mild. I'm having trouble finding any children's shampoo or conditioner that's not Suave. And I'm really not crazy about Suave, doesn't do well in my hair and mine is very similar to hers.
I'm basically looking for something that will clean all the "active-kid" dirt out of her hair and scalp, and a conditioner that will keep her hair well moisturized, and hopefully help protect her hair a bit too. Any suggestions?

Shea Moisture makes a baby shampoo & body wash combo. All of their other products are great so I am sure this one is too!

You don't need to use childrens products. Tear free shampoo is a good idea until they know to always look up and close their eyes when they rinse. But theres no reason to use a childrens conditioner. a lot of natural products are more gentle and have better ingredients than mainstream kids products.
I shampoo with this aveeno baby organic harvest foaming wash

the regular aveeno baby line is not much different from johnsons products, but this stuff is sulfate free, fragrance free and awesome.
I use a leave in conditioner on my son only because he hates washing his hair so I don't want to deal with him screaming twice. Taliah Waajid's protective mist bodifier is great - it's a little heavy, you may want to dilute it with water
http://www.amazon.com/Taliah-Waajid-Protective-Mist-Bodifier/dp/B000NHOXYO
Ingredients: Deionized Water (Aqua), Wheat Germ Extract, (Triticum Vulgare), Aloe Vera (Aloe Babadensis) Leaf, Cetrimonium Bromide, Cetyl Alc., DMDM Hydantoin, Olive Oil (Olea Europaena), Glycol -(Vegetable Derived), Silk Amino Acid, Bay Laurel Extract (Lauris No Bilis), Fragrance (Parfum).
You can spray this on dry hair for moisture in between washes or for a quick detangling session. It has a nice scent and freshens up the hair.
Once a month I do a rinse out conditioner with Tresemme naturals.

You could try all natural shampoo bars, like the ones from Chagrin Valley. Burts Bees also has a line for children.

I think we'll try the burt's bees stuff first, at least that is fairly easy to find.
DD doesn't always keep her head tipped up when I rinse her hair, she gets impatient and wants to play so she'll look down before I'm done and then freak out because water dripped in her face. So I'm trying to keep her shampoo gentle for now.
