:O How'd you know? (it definitely does, I know, Escpecially if i doesn't trim it as much as i did the last time while growing it out :P I will rather get length and then trim it to let the length travel down I guess, i will want my hair to be at APL before i start trimming it (i will do S&D))

You know what? That looks really good on you!!

Thank you so much ^^ (i've been told that by a lot of people already today :O)

I didn't understand why until someone mentioned henna. Chopping is probably easier than growing out a colour you're fed up with and can't change.

Congratulations on your new start!

I love the step by step progress pictures, kept me wondering how short you'd go! :) It looks great on you. I'd love to be able to start over like that but I don't like how I look with very short hair. I wish I did, because I love that style.

I'm glad you're happy. :) I kind of wish I could have done this too, but I can't bear the thought of going into depression-land again over my hair, which is exactly what would happen if I chopped it off like I did before.

I tried to find rules when I saw your post, but couldn't. Can you link me to them? I am curious why, as I know that Feye's haircutting post is in here... Is it before and afters, or actual scissors? And again, why?

Hair cutting pictures or videos are not allowed on this site.

I'm pretty sure that only refers to the type of sensationalist videos like someone on a talk show chopping off several feet of hair, she's crying and everyone's chanting "chop, chop, chop!" This is an extreme example but basically videos that portray a sort of savage glee in getting rid of long hair.

I don't think this applies to a member's personal experience with a haircut. Plenty of people here have gotten short haircuts and have posted about it without any negativity. It'd be a little ridiculous that I can post about a trim but I can't post about cutting my hair in a bob or pixie. Sounds like the OP is at peace with her decision.

Yeah, because I was going to say that if LHC ever gets to the point where it bans all haircutting pictures and videos I'd seriously reconsider frequenting this site, because that's just a little too obsessive pro-hair for me and just a tad intimidating >.>. I hope you were just joking with some dry humor there jeanniet.

If it makes you happy, it makes me happy, though I couldn't go that short again even though I did go quite a bit shorter to get rid of my dye. I know exactly how it feels to finally have the dye out and be grasping onto virgin length and seeing yourself in the mirror as a natural individual. It's simply entrancing. At least it was for me. I can't wait to see your journey progress to wonderful natural lengths. *thumbs up*:cheese:

It's not the posting about the cut, it's the pictures. And yes, it's serious and not a joke. Pictures of hair cutting of any kind attract the kind of creepy f*etish people we don't want here, which is exactly why they're not allowed. You can talk about it, but don't post pictures. It may not seem like a big deal, but that's because the mods do a very good job of keeping the f*tish people out.

Wow. I'm shocked by the hair cutting pictures veto. I'd much rather ban the weirdos than ban the genuine and innocent postings of members.

Although I'm struggling to imagine what kind of weirdo would be interested in hair cutting pictures. Have I missed some kind of incident on LHC of this nature?

I'm actually uncomfortable with the concept of limiting the actions of the innocent in an attempt to avoid the unpleasant behaviour of the unpleasant few. Not a principle I ascribe to at all.

Well OP, to solve the problem, maybe just put in before and after pics rather than all the pics? I absolutely CAN NOT see what is wrong with putting in after pics of cut hair!! I can't see how this would be exciting for a ******ist (or whatever you'd call them)... it's certainly not anything offensive that I can see at all!!

Still, I think a moderator should weigh in on this, because I don't believe that the pictures are wrong at all!

I don't see why it's exciting myself, but it is, in very unpleasant ways. :( Before and after pics, not a problem. It's the cutting itself--I mean, just the application of scissors to hair--that's the turn-on. It doesn't matter, really, that we don't get it; the point is that there are people out there who find pictures like that sexually exciting, and we don't want to attract them here.

I'm not sure what they mean by "styling illustrations." I do know that I've never seen pictures of actual hair cutting stay up here. I think there's links to Feye's technique, but that's about all. The mods do a good job of weeding out the creepies, but it's not that difficult to have an account here and lay low.

And OP, I'm glad you're happy to have all-natural hair. Good luck growing it back out!

This is a hair board, and you can't show a hair cut? Because someone might have a hair cut ******, really? People do know that long hair is a huge ****** don't they? Way bigger than someone who might get all hot and bothered by a hair cut. This reasoning doesn't make sense. I declare shenanigans.

I'm not sure if this is common knowledge, but I will say it anyway. When someone does an image search on Google (I'm not familiar with the other ones), pictures are gathered and when someone clicks on the picture they are sent to wherever the picture was posted. If you do a google image search right now for long hair community, you will see many of our member's pictures show up and when you click a picture, you are sent to this site. So if we start posting pictures of hair cuts, and someone has a ****** for long hair cuts, those pictures will lead them straight to this site.

The rule is there so we don't make ourselves an easy target for those kind of people. Because while most are harmless, some would steal your picture and share them on other ****** sites. Or worse, you could get a stalker.

This doesn't make any sense, you could do the same for long hair, and, way more people have a ****** for long hair than for hair cuts. The logic is flawed. Is there a history of people with hair cut ******es coming to this board and causing problems? Has it ever happened? Either someone (whoever made the rule) has a bad case of worst first thinking, or the something hinky is going on. This is like worrying about the chances of getting hit by lightning while drowning.

Sure, if you search long hair photos, you could find ours and come here. We can't help that. This is a long hair site. What we can help is trying to not attract those who have long hair cut ******es. The problem is you're talking about eliminating a risk, that basically is no risk. What do you think the chances of someone coming her to get their hair cut happies, and causing a problem on this board? Has this ever happened? You can just type hair cut in to google, and there you go.

Not allowing people to post an instructional video on how to do long layers in hair, on a hair forum, because someone with a haircut ****** might see it, and then cause a problem by behaving badly on the board is irrational. This is not a risk that needs to be eliminated, because it wasn't a risk to begin with.

I understand what you are saying, and if I was the owner of this board perhaps I'd be more lenient. But I'm not the owner and I don't get to make the rules. We agreed to the rules when we became members and started posting. I'm just explaining what my perception is of why this rule is in place. I believe it comes from a good place - to protect the members. This group isn't about cutting hair, it's about growing hair. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with this post at all. No offense, OP, but this is not a long hair cutting post. (btw- your hair looks awesome!!!).

We can't keep all the crazies out, we can only do our best. I've only been here a year. I've only noticed a couple of creeps who've joined and of course been banned. But I have heard of our members having their photos stolen for ****** sites. I'm not aware of any specific instances of where hair cutting photos have been an issue - but this forum is so old, I can only imagine that there is a reason for this rule.

For some people, there is something sexual about the act of cutting hair. So the forum doesn't allow it. I guess it's that simple. Although I wish someone more established would elaborate on this rule.

You extrapolated, that it's to keep people with a rare sexual ****** from posting nasty things on the board, based on a rule that reads, No hair cut videos. That's a huge leap.

Occam's razor tells us that the simplest explanation is most often correct. It is far more likely that an admin/mod does not like hair cut videos, rather than your sexual deviant theory.

Occam's razor tells us that the simplest explanation is most often correct. It is far more likely that an admin/mod does not like hair cut videos, rather than your sexual deviant theory.

I don't understand why your reason is more likely. Your reason implies the admins/mods make rules arbitrarily based on their own whims. Why is that theory more likely than the one that states that they do it to protect the members?

Because you have to make a bunch of assumptions to get from, no hair videos, to it's to keep away sexual deviants with hair cut ******es who might troll the board. You assume,

1 That someone with a hair cut ****** is looking for this board, when they can type "hair cut videos" into google and have "About 64,000,000 results" I googled it. To need protection from something, there needs to be more than a .00001% chance of it happening. (made up statistic based on the availability of hair cut video hits on google)

2 That people are even aware of this ******. It is rare and not exactly main stream.

2 .That the mods/admins fear this happening, and feel the posters need to be protected from it. Has this ever happened? Has anything remotely like this ever happened? Do other hair care boards get infested with sexual deviants torlling about their ******? The answer is probably no. To actively fear someone with a hair cut ******, coming to this board and trolling, is irrational, bordering on phobic.

My theory is the mod/admin does not like hair cut videos.

With every assumption you make you the more likely you are to be wrong, the simplest answer is most often correct. That's what the scientific law Occam's Raror means.

I'm well aware of what Occam's Razor means, thank you. You and are both guilty of speculating as no one with a concrete answer has come forth. We are having a discussion. I admit I could be totally off base. It was just the feeling I got after being a part of this community for a year.

If you are right, fine. If I am right, fine. If we are both wrong, fine. At the end of the day, rules are rules and you agreed to said rules when you signed up.

Wow! Now I'm imagining creepy people lurking and staring through the windows of hairdressing salons....

My hair was hip length and I used to work as a hairdresser in a salon. Most of my clients had waist length hair or longer.

It happens, trust me. And not all of the creepy lurkers are harmless and keep their hands to themselves.

From what I remembered from just reading and lurking, it has happened a few times before. But of course LHC is almost 10 years old and has thousands of members as well as people who lurk here. So it doesn't make it impossible to have it happen before.

Which I think they do it for our safety, which there are whole youtube pages just for hair cutting and lots of videos of it. So
Just because it isn't mainstream doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

But ah oh well, rules are rules.

I think OP removed them, as you see can in the second post about removed pictures.

But I digress, good on you, I think it looks fantastic! Happy growing again and I'm sure it will look even better!

Yes, to answer the bolded statement. It has happened and the posters DO need to be protected. The mods work really hard at keeping those twisted trolls outta here. And it might seem phobic to you, but you've never been accosted by one, or had your pics posted on a porn site. We (members who have been here a bit longer) , on the other hand, have.

To the OP, Flame, congratulations on having your natural hair back! No more henna :) Many guys and ladies on here have grown out from a really short crop, and in some cases, totally shaved heads!

I remember Igor gave some tips about using aloe vera gel on the scalp to moisturise it well.

Happy growing!

My point was that you are not being protected by not having hair hair cut videos. As I stated before, it is far more likely a person coming to this board for sexual gratification (that itself is going to be rare) is going to be looking for long hair. This is the long hair community, they are going to find what they want here. A person looking for hair cutting videos is going to go to youtube.
Chance that a person with a long hair ****** showing up here = kind of high.
Chance of person with hair cutting ****** coming to sight dedicated to growing hair long = low.
There is no logic in worrying about the very small risk, and not the big one. If someone is going to put your pic on some ****** site it's going to be on a long hair ****** site. This is a blatant case of Zero-risk bias, the attempt to reduce a tiny risk to zero, while ignoring higher risk behavior.

This is the internet, I have been accosted by trolls. Everyone who spends any time on any forum has had to deal with them. Don't make this a you vs us thing, everyone has been torlled.

Thank you :D (well my hair had never been so long before so it was for me :D and some of the hair that i cut off were 9 inches :P)

Well, you too extrapolated, and in your case "your" simplest explanation doesn't seem any more likely. Why would the simplest explanation be that an admin or mod doesn't like cutting videos? We have a lot of members who show us before and after photos of long hair to short hair and that's never been a problem. That much should be obvious.

Occam's Razor to me, led to the deviant theory, but maybe that's because I've seen a lot more here and have been here a lot longer than you have.

There has DEFINITELY been a problem with cutting images and videos over the years because of deviants. There have been discussions about it in the past, perhaps on Site Support on this board or on the Archived Board. You can do a simple search to find these threads, if you wish.

What she said, absolutely.

When you've been around longer, and seen more, you'll realise that this board is a major hunting ground for trolls and perverts. We've both been around enough years to have friends' photos turn up on other websites targetting the 'mouse on the left side of the keyboard' brigade.

Moderator chiming in here:

Please be respectful of other people's opinions. Conversation is fine, differences of opinion are fine, attacking other people? Not so cool.

In my view, the rules against posting hair cutting videos exist because experience has taught us that prohibiting them makes it easier for this community to focus on the things that truly matter to us (friendship and support).

******ists do exist, and yes, from time to time, they make their presence known in unpleasant ways.

I keep getting 'server too busy' errors, and the mod board's been kind of quiet lately, so I haven't had the chance to discuss this one with the other mods.

Trying, again, to post this. :)

Hey, look! It worked!!

Editing to add that threads whose only purpose is to encourage people to say 'wow, that's terrible' really aren't all that useful.

Given also that this community is likely to be more sensitive to the issue of hair cutting, stories about forced hair cuts are also a problem, among other things, because they can be both discouraging and distressing.

Since the forum exists to provide people a place to seek good advice and find encouragement in achieving their hair growing goals, deliberately provoking the community is not a good idea. It's also rude, and makes us wonder why anyone who wants to be here for all the right reasons would do such a thing.. :)
