in Egypt special at the Nuba we make a reversed bun as being mentioned in the pictures below where the bun is a little below the hair's front-line, we start by gently comb our hair in the reversed direction, oiling our hair and scalp, massage it and then bun it below the front line, that helps in stimulating and nourishing the hair follicles for a healthier hair growth and giving hair volume, you can also do it as a protective sleeping style, you will feel the difference..enjoy

I'm happy if it works for you, but my scalp would go insane if I did that. I can't even do a high bun without making my scalp hurt; completely reversing the direction of my hair is something I don't even want to think about! :scared:

I really like this idea and will try it tonight.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Every once-in-a-while I would do an upside-down French braid and it really hurt my scalp.

I wonder, though, if this was something you did with regularity, if it wouldn't be okay. Because reversing the lay of the hair and pull on the folicles caused the irritation, maybe if done more often the hair would have grown accustomed to the backwards combing and treatment.

Thanks for posting your hair care suggestion!

I do this often - whenever I pre-oil before a wash. I have been doing it 2-3 times a week now for almost a year, and often sleep with it in.

Even after all this time, it still makes my scalp and follicles sore.

The reason I keep doing it is that it sets my hair in the direction I need it to be for washing. When I wash, I tip my head forward. My hair doesn't like to be jostled much when wet, so having it already combed forward like this before I get in the shower is ideal.

That's really funny, I do this very often.

It doesn't make my head sore. I guess I got used to it. And I like high buns :) And low buns :) and... :)

My scalp actually seems to enjoy changing the direction of general pull. I`m not sure why, but it does feel good from time to time.

Haha I tried it! We'll see how ticked off my scalp gets about going the "wrong way"

Here is a picture of my attempt. I decorated it with space invaders and a dorky frame because I was embarrassed and figured they would distract you from my night-time double hours at work tired-ness. :p I kinda feel like a unicorn!

If I did that, my sons would laugh me out of the house. It does look a lot more comfy than a traditional topknot bun for sleeping in. Those pull the hairs on the top of my head something fierce. However, that looks like the bun would be well supported for back sleepers.

That is brilliant for sleeping! I'm too tired to look it it up, but I seem to remember reading that changing the direction your hair lays in normally can stimulate hair growth? This would be perfect for that.

Hehe this was fun! Thank you so much Dina for the style.

It really did add a lot of volume and bounce. I wonder how it would couple with sock bun curls!

Here are my post bun morning shots:
