Vetiver will give you a lovely "dirt" smell, Spikenard smells green and wet, also patchouli (of course!) Ho Wood, Cedar, Fir, all would smell great together.

Oakmoss is another one with a rich, earthy aroma that would blend well with other woodsy scents.

Pine can have the floor cleaner scent, so I like fir needle, cedar, spikenard and bright herby top note. Even lime!

Oh, and cypress. It has a nice evergreen scent to it. Or juniper. Or a touch of sandlewood oil...
Now I want to make some,too.... :D

yeah! i've been wearing vanilla eau de toilette since i was 10 years old (it was my mom's).. and now i'm trying to mix my own scent. i want it to have a vanilla base but also smell foresty. i was thinking of making a vanilla and cedar mix with some other woody scents thrown in, and just a hint of amber. maybe with a few drops of floral (like jasmine) to make it more feminine. then i could use this oil recipe to scent my hair oils, add to conditioners, make perfume oils, etc.
i just don't have infinite money to pour into essential oil purchases, although i would like to, so thanks for the help everybody.

Balsam Peru is rather vanilla-y, that would work too, Rosemary also could be pretty nice. I get most of my EO's from Mountain Rose herbs, super service and really great products.
Have fun!

Chaparral Essential Oil has a very earthy pungent, undergrowth, mossy scent if you can find it.

I found this woodland perfume recipe on Pinterest, and thought I'd share it in case you are still coming up with some blends...
4 drops Spruce essential oil
2 drops organic Fir Needle essential oil
2 drops organic Cedarwood essential oil
1 drop organic Vetiver essential oil
1 drop organic Bergamot essential oil
1 tsp organic Jojoba Oil Drip all essential oils into a glass bottle and roll between palms to evenly mix the oils. Add Jojoba oil, and roll again. Add additional essential oils if you desire a stronger perfume.

Juniper EO smells foresty. Also cedarwood and sandalwood EO. I forgot whether frankincense or myrrh EO smells that way too.

I'm on the quest for the foresty scent too, so I ordeder some essential oils today. Pine and spruce were at todays list and next time I'm ordering juniper and some others if I find some. I want scents you would find from Finnish forests, so cypres or bergamot won't do. And choises in Finland are very limited.
If only I could bottle that after-rain smell in our family's forest...

If you like vanilla you might like benzoin. It smells a little like vanilla and faint cinnamon. I think it would go great with woodsy smells. I just love both pine and fir essential oils!

What you described sounds a lot like "Lucky In Love Potion #7" from Love Potion Perfume. http://www.lovepotionperfume.com/perfumerie/potion/LuckyLove7/
I don't see it as a "deep forest green" but more of a "light green", though it is still very vanilla and green. It is one of my favorites from them. I've had their "Excalibur" recommended to me as a "deep forest green" scent but I haven't bought it yet, and it wouldn't have the vanilla note in it that you want.

I was sniffing the EOs at the natural food store a while back and absolutely fell in love with bergamot. It shouldn't have been a surprise since I love Earl Gray. I didn't get it as it was the most expensive one on the shelf. Eek! If you have a natural food store near you, they should have sample bottles.
